I had the dream about you dying again last night. There was blood this time. I saw your bones snap and knew it was my fault. There's a distance between success and failure but my brain bridges the gap. You look at me through the light from the window, blinking back a good morning half caught in your throat and I think about broken glass and tail lights reflected on wet concrete, a stop light and a quart of blood on the sidewalk. I think of everything you know or knew and I feel sick. I shouldn't have left.
