I didn’t get the memo. But yay ace ppl! You’re rad, I was ace a while and now I’m not (it’s weird) but I’ve been thru some of the trash stuff.

I get how invalid and “wrong” u can feel sometimes. Or how ppl say “u haven’t met the right person yet” or “you’ll change your mind when you’re older”

Let me just tell u now as a person who “changed their mind when they were older”... Those people? What they are telling you is straight from the garbage dump and should be brought back there with haste. Besides, even if it turns out that you do change? It’s still garbage to try to tell someone that they’re not ace cuz “it could happen”.

Like, I did change and I still think I was ace during the time I ID’d that way. I wasn’t wrong about that. I didn’t experience sexual attraction and now I do. I wouldn’t have been able to tell u that would change at the time tho. How you identify yourself now and how you know you experience the world now, is generally more relevant than “maybe possibly in the unknown future you might experience this thing”.

Like maybe in the future I will be lots of things. Maybe I’ll be ace again, or maybe I’ll be a boy or a girl or both (I have a very fluid identity *shrugs*), or maybe I’ll be injured. Maybe they’ll cure tourettes, or depression. But none of that effects who I am or how I experience the world right now. I can’t predict that stuff. There’s no reason for me to change how I label myself because of some unforeseeable future. That doesn’t make any sense tbh? The whole reason I’ve got labels for myself is so people can understand who I am right now in this moment.

And I know some people have a lot more.. Rigid? Stable? identities than me and u know u won’t have this kinda fluxuation and that’s cool too. Maybe you know you’re ace now and that you always will be. Then that’s true. Nobody else gets a say in that.

Your identity is yours to define. If u say “I am ace now but I wasn’t before” then that’s the truth. If u say “I am ace now and I didn’t always know it but I always was” then that’s the truth. If u say “I’m ace because of something I went through” then that’s the truth. Or whatever else. You feel me?
