“  GENERALLY   SPEAKING  WHEN  PEOPLE  ARE  PULLED  OUT  OF  THE  THICK  OF  BATTLE  ,  MOST  WILL  SAY  THANK  YOU  ,  ”  remus  said  wiping  down  his  sleeves  &&  scratching  his  eyebrow  .  “  but  you  aren’t  most  people  so  perhaps  i’m  asking  too  much  .  ”  he  ADDED  with  a  shake  of  his  head  before  reaching  over  &&  helping  her  up  to  her  feet  .  “  sometimes  char  ,  i  think  you  have  a  death  wish  ,  ”

HE  WAS  NURSING  THE  STITCH  ON  HIS  LEFT  SIDE  ,  THE  BURNING  PAIN  HITTING  HIM  OVER  &&  OVER  AGAIN  AS  HE  TRIED  FIGHTING  FOR  BREATH  .  bloody  hurt  .  he  closed  his  eyes  ,  breath  catching  on  the  cold  air  &&  turning  into  condensation  .  for  a  moment  ,  he  couldn’t  hear  anything  ,  then  tucked  his  wand  carefully  away  out  of  sight  .  “  i  have  a  FEW  IDEAS  why  ,  ”  he  said  with  some  distaste  ,  standing  up  a  little  straighter  to  look  over  .  but  which  to  choose  from  ?  the  fact  that  he  was  a  WEREWOLF  ?  the  fact  that  he  was  in  the  ORDER  ?  was  it  because  he  had  hexed  one  of  their  mates  ?  the  fact  that  he  was  from  the  manchester  area  ?  honestly  it  could  have  been  any  of  those  things  .  &&  remus  wasn’t  too  sure  where  to  START  on  that  list  .  

lips  pursed  ,  remus  narrowed  his  eyes  &&  then  shook  his  head  .  “  each  as  likely  as  the  next  ,  but  i’m  not  going  to  think  about  it  too  much  ,  ”  he  ran  his  hand  over  his  nose  &&  then  gave  a  lopsided  smile  .  “  cheers  by  the  way  ,  ”  he  said  .  “  couldn’t  have  GOTTEN  away  without  you  ,  ”

REMUS  RUBBED  HIS  LEFT  EYE  &&  SIGHED  .  already  lamenting  the  fact  that  he  had  been  subsequently  abandoned  by  his  friends  .  james  had  paired  off  the  second  he  could  with  lily  .  &&  sirius  had  already  said  he’d  rather  eat  troll  bogies  than  be  paired  with  snape  .  so  here  remus  was  ,  biting  the  BULLET  for  all  of  them  .  &&  now  ,  he  was  regretting  his  decision  to  do  this  .  he  should  have  thrown  sirius  to  the  wolves  so  to  speak  .  a  small  pilfering  look  of  exhaustion  caught  snape’s  eye  before  he  then  tapped  the  side  of  the  cauldron  he  had  with  his  wand  ,  the  most  of  the  dirt  DISAPPEARING  .  however  ,  it  was  a  very  old  ,  not  even  second  hand  cauldron  .  if  remus  was  correct  ,  this  was  fourth  of  fifth  hand  .  it  had  passed  through  many  owners  prior  to  him  &&  SUBSEQUENTLY  those  owners  were  less  than  concerned  with  the  quality  they  left  their  cauldron  in  .  leaving  remus  very  much  with  a  pot  that  was  beginning  to  oxidise  &&  stain  .  

he  was  fairly  certain  that  this  was  pretty  much  why  all  his  potions  had  FAILED  in  the  last  few  years  ,  but  he  was  also  ready  to  accept  that  he  just  wasn’t  good  at  this  class  .  professor  slughorn  had  already  made  that  abundantly  clear  by  forgetting  his  name  ,  despite  the  fact  that  he  had  been  teaching  remus  for  the  last  7  years  .   &&  to  be  fair  the  fact  that  remus  got  an  exceeds  expectations  in  his  O.W.L’s  was  a  shock  for  everyone  involved  ,  himself  INCLUDED  .   remus  let  his  lips  thin  but  he  didn’t  say  ANYTHING  as  he  then  looked  over  his  notes  ,  biting  back  a  comment  about  snape  ever  washing  his  hair  .  but  snape  would  do  well  not  to  ANNOY  him  ,  since  the  full  moon  was  days  away  ,  &&  remus  had  already  woken  up  in  pain  ,  PISSED  OFF  &&  had  suffered  a  nosebleed  all  before  7am  .  

“  it’s  fine  ,  ”  he  said  biting  back  any  retort  .  

“  PLEASE  DON’T  ASSUME  THAT  I  DON’T  ,  ”  remus  said  quietly  ,  his  hands  quietly  tying  off  the  knotted  bandage  that  now  slung  around  severus’  wrist  &&  palm  .  his  head  dipped  down  as  he  worked  ,  patching  severus  up  to  the  best  of  his  ability  (  though  perhaps  the  other  man  would  be  BETTER  with  madam  pomfrey  looking  over  it  )  on  the  table  beside  him  sat  a  box  full  of  medical  supplies  that  arthur  &&  molly  had  stocked  up  on  ,  grimmauld  place  fairly  well  kept  in  bandages  &&  so  forth  in  case  it  should  ever  be  needed  .

now  remus  was  no  medic  ,  nor  was  he  a  HEALER  .  he  was  far  from  either  .  however  ,  after  years  on  his  own  ,  he  had  grown  accustomed  to  treating  his  own  bites  &&  scratches  .  for  severus  ,  this  was  nothing  but  a  quick  fix  .  but  the  way  severus  seemed  to  recoil  at  remus’  touch  ,  the  way  he  SEEMED  to  pull  his  hand  away  .  remus  felt  the  slight  pang  grow  inside  his  stomach  .  he  knew  that  severus  didn’t  think  highly  of  him  .  &&  he  knew  that  most  wizards  &&  witches  did  not  want  a  werewolf  touching  them  for  fear  of  ...  well  fear  of  INFECTION  .  &&  severus  would  know  that  wasn’t  possible  ,  but  remus  understood  the  fear  .  so  he  didn’t  react  .

the  words  came  as  a  scorching  hit  .  did  severus  think  that  remus  didn’t  care  ?  what  on  earth  gave  him  that  impression  ?  remus  leaned  back  ,  dark  eyes  studying  severus  carefully  .  

“  YES  .  ”  came  the  simple  answer  ,  hands  on  her  shoulders  &&  then  turning  her  around  &&  pushing  her  in  the  direction  he  needed  her  to  go  in  ,  before  nudging  his  nose  with  his  thumb  .  his  head  dipped  down  as  he  then  opened  the  door  to  the  kitchen  &&  GESTURED  for  her  to  sit  down  .  “  i’d  be  upset  if  you  didn’t  take  it  as  a  threat  if  i’m  honest  ,  ”
