The hour was late and Jaehyuk was mentally exhausted. Closing time at Yeohaeng Book couldn't come fast enough, but it wouldn’t matter if he didn’t finish up the last few tasks. Namely the stacks upon stacks of books that needed organizing and shelving. After nearly a year and half working at the store Jaehyuk knew the shelves by heart, but it still took time to carry one armload at a time. He smiled politely at the few customers still flipping through pages and paused to tell each one that closing time was soon. If he had his way they’d all be gone by now.
Half-way through his third trip around the store the front door opened, the quiet bell above alerting him to a new customer. The grad student sent up a silent prayer that the customer would be in and out as fast as possible. Poking his head around the corner he called out a quick greeting not actually seeing who it was before climbing up the small step stool to reach the top shelf. Even with his long arms, it took two tries to get the small novel in the correct spot. Jae wobbled nearly tripping on his way back down, but managed to catch himself just in time. “Please tell me you didn’t just see that,” he pleaded to the presence next to him.
