"Lo siento." The words were out of his mouth and he was crouched down on the ground helping to pick up the spilled produce before he really had a chance to process what was happening. He had gotten dizzy and nauseous, blacked out, felt like he was falling, and now he was here. Maybe he was having a very strong vision? He wasn't sure. He had never physically been in a vision before, though.

Nothing was okay at the moment. Not for him and Camilo, at least. But on his way to find help, the stupidest and maybe funniest idea had popped into his head. He just had to focus on staying himself, or mostly himself, until he got to the punchline.

Bruno had always been a mama's boy, even as he got older and the distance between them grew. The beast left in his place didn't know any of their complicated history, though. Just that her scent and touch were comforting.

Sneaking to the kitchen to find food had been an almost nightly occurrence for Bruno for ten years. There was no reason for him to be afraid, he kept telling himself. He was just scaring his family by refusing to leave his room for days because he had accidentally turned himself into a large half man, half rat and decided that them having to deal with that would be much worse than them having to deal with weird, reclusive Tío Bruno. Unfortunately, the rat half wasn't satisfied with the food his family had been leaving outside his door and was willing to risk it all to get some more.

"Thanks, Cleo." He looked at her and returned the small smile with a nod. If he had to lose himself to the beast, there was nobody better to do it with. It trusted her and would usually do as she asked, even without the mind control.

It was just incredibly daunting to face losing both his body and his mind for days at a time. He could feel the thick, black, slimy magic slowly creeping around his mind. Feeling anything too strongly would speed it up, but no matter what he did, it would always end up swallowing him in the end. It was a curse. Even with his supportive and understanding friends telling him they didn't mind, it was still a terrible and painful thing that was his fault. He had messed around with powers he didn't fully understand and now he was a gross slimy rat monster.

Bruno had finally left his room for the first time in well over a week, looking more exhausted than maybe he ever had. The first few days he had made up excuses for why he couldn't come out and nobody could come in. He couldn't just tell his family that he had tried to learn magic outside of his gift and his attempt to turn himself into a rat had backfired horrifically. So he told them he was too sad and fatigued to come out and too overwhelmed by their large and loud family to have anyone come in. After 6 days he stopped responding all together. Luckily Casita still hadn't let anyone in. He couldn't remember what had happened, but given the state of his room when he woke up, it couldn't have been anything good.
