Character Solidifying Questions || Accepting
[first off... why do you hate me?!]
1. How does your character think of their father? What do they hate and love about him? What influence - literal or imagined - did the father have?Ollie loves his father, they get along very well. Dad gave him his first glass of scotch, and helped him through his first heartbreak as a teen.3. Brothers, sisters? Who do they like? Why? What do they despise about their siblings?He has two siblings, a brother who died when he was five, and a sister, Finley. He loves Finley desperately, she’s his baby sister and he would murder somebody to protect her. They’ve very close, and probably know way too much about each other’s personal lives, but he couldn’t imagine life without her. Even if sometimes she’s a bit blunt and bratty.
5. Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered?Oliver was allowed to do just about anything he wanted as a child. He ran through forests and played with friends and got hurt often.
7. What was the economic status of their family?They weren’t wealthy exactly, but then never struggled.
9. What about political beliefs?Ollie doesn’t care much about politics, tbh
11. How do they see themselves: as smart, as intelligent, uneducated?Ollie doesn’t consider himself that smart, he completed school, but he’s always cared more about sports than studying.
13. Did they like school? Teachers? Schoolmates?He didn’t mind school, mostly because it meant Quidditch. Without Hogwarts he never would have made it to Puddlemere. He got along with some teachers, but not all, and while Oliver was generally friendly (regardless of house rivalries) he was only truly close to his teammates.
15. Did they graduate? High-School? College? Do they have a PHD? A GED?Oliver graduated from Hogwarts (though just barely)
17. Did they travel? Where? Why? When?He travels with his team, but playing typically keeps him too busy to explore the towns he ends up in. He likes taking vacations, though, when he has the time.
19. What were your character’s deepest disillusions? In life? What are they now?That he isn’t good boyfriend/husband material. He’s convinced he’s not good enough.
21. What are your character’s manners like? What is their type of hero? Whom do they hate?Ollie has pretty decent manners. he’s not perfect, but he’s no caveman. He looks up to Quidditch stars, mostly. And Harry, also. Though he’d never admit it.
23. What do they want from a partner? What do they think and feel of sex?Oliver just wants to be loved, to have somebody he can laugh with, who has a terrific sense of humor, and who doesn’t mind that he works a lot. Also he really likes adventerous sex. All the time.
25. What are their hobbies and interests?Quidditch and scotch.
27. How do they relate to their appearance? How do they wear their clothing? Style? Quality?Ollie knows he’s a pretty decent looking bloke, but doesn’t put too much effort into what he wears. Jeans, boots, and a sweater of some kind.
29. What is your character’s weaknesses? Hubris? Pride? Controlling?His obsession with Quidditch tends to take over his life, making him care more about Quidditch than his friends. He loves too hard. He’d risk his life to protect his family and friends, putting their life and safety above his own. Also his anger can be a problem.31. Does your character have children? How do they feel about their parental role? About the children? How do the children relate?Depending on the verse, Ollie has multiple children. He loves children, and has always wanted a large family. He semi-adopts Teddy as his niece because of it, and even though he’s convinced he’d make a terrible husband, he’s always wanted a brood of children.
33. Do they drink? Take drugs? What about their health? Oh gosh. Just all the scotch. He drinks probably too much.35. Do they always rationalize errors? How do they accept disasters and failures?Ollie doesn’t handle disasters/failures well at all. He shuts down, and tries to hide from everybody.37. How is your character’s imagination? Daydreaming a lot? Worried most of the time? Living in memories?Oliver spends most of his time thinking about Quidditch, going over past games, thinking of future games, or planning new strategies for practice.39. What do they like to ridicule? What do they find stupid?Mostly just rival Quidditch teams.41. Is your character aware of who they are? Strengths? Weaknesses? Idiosyncrasies? Capable of self-irony?Oliver is pretty self-aware. He knows his failings but has a hard time preventing them despite that.
43. Does your character have any secrets? If so, are they holding them back?He doesn’t talk about his brother’s death, and the fact that he watched Orson die. He still has nightmares occasionally.
45. Is your character pragmatic? Think first? Responsible? All action? A visionary? Passionate? Quixotic?Oliver’s middle name is Passionate. (not literally... it’s Pym)
47. Do they want to project an image of a younger, older, more important person? Does they want to be visible or invisible?Oliver just wants to be himself. If other people don’t like him, that’s their problem.
49. What about voice? Pitch? Strength? Tempo and rhythm of speech? Pronunciation? Accent?Deep voice, thick Scottish accent. The angrier he gets, the harder it is to understand them.
