// The Drifter’s trying to look as friendly as he can. They’d scared off humans (and non-humans) before, though not always meaning to. Chiaki didn’t look like she wanted to die any more than the Drifter did--she seemed equally in a pinch, being left with a smaller and smaller pool of partners to choose from. Also, there was something adorably familiar about her hoodie.
They adopt a brisk pace in jogging over to the girl, their robot floating along loyally. They stop a bit in front of her, smiling under the mask and giving a short single wave.

It’s as far as they get before a sudden coughing fit overcomes them, and pink blood spurts out of the front of their mask. With quick-enough reflexes, they manage to cover their mouth and stop from getting any of it on Chiaki, but it still leaks through their fingers the more they cough. As the first splash of blood begins to glitch out and disappear, the Drifter holds up their index finger to Chiaki (the universal sign for “wait up”) while trying to stabilize the coughing fit. What a great first impression.
