Regulus loved and hated that he was now in charge of training the idiots he chose to associate with. Sirius and Barty were chaos, trying to outdo each other and disrupting everyone else. Regulus had split them up repeatedly. Pandora, after her focused beginning, began doing what Pandora did best and did whatever she felt like. James, Evan and Dorcas were at least trying; they were all very good students and were learning fast, but by and far his best and favourite student was Remus.
Remus learnt almost as fast as he did and, within a few lessons, was on par with Regulus himself.
“Remus, go sort those two out. If I have to separate them again, I’m going to hex them into next week,” Regulus ground out through his clenched teeth. Remus didn’t even move. He flicked his wand, and Sirius and Barty flew into the air in perfect arcs in the opposite direction and landed with soft thumps. “Hmm, good choice. I would have perhaps made them bounce off the walls, but to each his own,”
He watched his students for a while. Correcting their wand movements as he walked amongst them. He took great pleasure in helping James, pressing up against his back and moving his hand with his own. He took even more pleasure watching him cast a perfect Expelliarmus and take the wands from everyone in the room, apart from him and Remus.
“Professor Black!” Barty yelled from across the room. Regulus closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger.
“What?” he asked, almost afraid of the answer.
“Sirius took my wand and won't give it back!” he whined.
“Sirius, stop being a prick,” Regulus sighed.
“He started it. It started going on about how he was going to seduce Remus and steal him away.” Regulus had heard enough. He stalked towards the quarrelling pair, plucked Barty’s wand from Sirius’s hand and handed it back to Barty.
“First, new rule, you two are not to partner up. Second, Remus is mine; neither of you can have him,” he smirked, knowing this would upset both of them.
"Quit saying Remus is yours!" Sirius complained.
“Does that mean Potters up for grabs?” Barty asked, his eyes raking over James. Regulus’s hand flew out, and he grabbed Barty roughly by the jaw.
“Listen very closely, Crouch. James is mine, hands off!” He said it in such a deadly calm voice that even the candles flickered around the room. Barty nodded, and Regulus let him go.
“Does that mean Pettigrew's up for grabs?” he asked, winking at Peter.
“I’ve got a girlfriend, Crouch,” Peter told him sternly.
“So? I have a boyfriend,” Barty countered. Regulus was at the end of his patience.
“Lupin, take over,” he said, and Remus lazily walked over, flashed a wicked smile and raised his wand. A chipmunk ran across the room and scurried up Evans's leg, hiding in his pocket. Well, at least that was one problem taken care of.
“Right, let’s carry on. Do not let your wands be taken this time. We are aiming to be able to throw off the Expelliarmus charm completely by the end of the week. We need to move on if we’re going to stand a chance,” he turned to Remus again. “I’m promoting you. I need help getting them up to scratch. You take your idiots, and I’ll take mine,”
“Oh, this is going to be fun,” Remus grinned. “Black, Potter, Pettigrew, with me,”
“I’m scared. Reggie, can’t I be on your team?” Sirius moved a few steps away from his boyfriend.
“Nope,” Regulus answered as Remus cast Expelliamus and sent Sirius soaring across the room while his wand flew neatly into Remus’s outstretched hand. They had a long way to go. Regulus just hoped they would get there before they were called into the forest.
