We took one selfie earlier but I blinked so she deleted it—

So we took a new selfie on our way out this morning.

it was june of 2017, we had only been friends for like. a month TOPS. and we were still in the getting-to-know-each-other stage but we were more comfortable talking to each other. she had to go to florida for a competition (which i remember taking place over my birthday, which was disappointing to me, but i digress), and at the end of the day she’d give me updates on how it was going

at the very end when they announced the results, she placed 5th in the competition. and while she was excited to have placed at all, she was disappointed because she had done her best and really wished she could have placed higher. i could tell it was really eating at her, so i tried my best to comfort her. i said cheesy things like ‘you’re a winner to me!!’ and ‘if i could give you a ribbon i would’

until finally i sent her this:

a doodle of me, giving her a #1 ribbon made out of macaroni

honestly i didn’t expect it to go over very well, usually my attempts at being this cheesy and silly just make people mad because it’s just a gesture and not real, but smarty immediately lit up and thought it was the best and most valuable thing
