A long time ago I had a summer job as a camp counselor. That was the summer just after I’d joined Weight Watchers. Since the Coke machine didn’t stock Tab (and there was no such thing as Diet Coke back then) I brought a bunch of Weight Watchers carbonated drinks and kept them in the fridge in the Staff lounge.

As you might guess, I sort of had a hard time keeping these to myself. The lemon-lime and the root beer disappeared as soon as I put them in. The cola... well, no one else much wanted that. But the strawberry sode? Nobody wanted to touch that stuff, not even me. So it pretty much just sat at the back of the regrigerator all summer.

The Thursday before close of camp. all the cola machines on site were empty, and we knew the people who stocked them weren’t coming back out that late in the season. All of us had plenty of water to drink - hell, we even had ice to put in it - but my stock of WW drinks was gone except for those cans of strawberry soda. So I decided I just HAD to have that fizz and headed for the Staff lounge.

When I got there, one of my co-workers was already there and he told me with a plaintive look, “Hey, Cobert, you told us you couldn’t stand those strawberry drinks. so I drank the last one in there. I;m sorry, but I just HAD to have something other than water to drink!” I forget exactly what I said, nut I’m sure I let him know I was planning on drinking that last soda. (Blowing my stack or getting violent were not exactly my style. Besides, I could tell he was in the same hung-up state I was.)
