Chased by grief over the loss of Bucky. Steve takes the Valkyrie into the ice in an attempt to stop Hydra.

70 years later, Steve wakes up in a new time, with new enemies and new friends, but the mission is the same. Bring down the enemy, no matter what. When a mysterious figure known as San Dapth makes his way onto the scene, Steve and the Avengers step forward and heed the call to arms. Together, they have to face down San Dapth and bring him to justice.

It is in their fight against San Dapth that Steve discovers something terrifying. He's pregnant with Bucky Barnes' baby. Now he must learn to live this new life without the man he loves.

Hydra learns of Steve's pregnancy. And they'll do whatever it takes to get to his unborn child, including unleashing their greatest asset from the ice—the Winter Soldier.

Chapter 44: The Dream

Snippet:

Yet, there’s something different about tonight, and the temptation to just get it over with is growing by the minute. Cautiously, he sits up a little and glances towards the door. The lights are still on overhead, but he knows his captor's routine by now. 

They had fed him dinner hours ago, and while Bucky had lingered well past when he’d given him a shave, he’d eventually been called out of the cell by Rumlow. Which means they won’t be back until morning. He’s alone for now, unless something drastic changes their routine. 

His mind lingers on Bucky, and the hint of humanity he’d seen in his eyes earlier that night, when he’d been giving Steve that shave. For Christ's sake, Bucky had actually comforted him. He still remembers the warmth of his forehead leaning against Bucky’s stomach, and the memory leaves his heart aching.

Being touched…it’d woken something inside him. The desire for something more. The ache to be loved when no one cared for him in his present circumstances. Not sex, specifically, but something, anything. A connection.

Chapter 30: The Babyshower Part 2

Snippet:

“Steve, go on, cut the cake.” Sam encourages, waving Steve forward.

Reluctantly, Steve sets aside his plate and puts back on his shoes, something that has the group roaring with laughter.

“Aww, poor Stevie.” Darcy croons.

Steve shakes his head and rolls his eyes.

“You try walkin' around with marshmallows for feet.” He grumbles, adjusting his jacket and brushing crumbs from his chest. 

Walking over to the cake, he steps around behind the table and takes the knife from Tony.

“Alright, it’s been a few decades since I’ve done this, I assume it works the same way it used to,” Steve asks, raising an eyebrow, his joke receiving chuckles all around.

“Just cut the cake, old man,” Tony says, stepping back so Steve’s at the head of the table. 

“Alright.” Steve starts at the upper tier and begins to slice it into equal cuts. Pepper steps forward, holding out a plastic plate. “Whoever made this did a fantastic job. Oh! It’s chocolate.”

“Come on, Steve, eat something!” Tony urges, bouncing to the beat of the music, his ‘papabear’ coming out, as Clint would call it.

“Clint’s getting me a plate,” Steve calls back, leaning back in his chair and grinning.

“Because I’m a saint!” Clint sings from the food table.

“Steve, tell me, how far along are you?” Jane asks as she chews daintily on a strawberry and walks up to stand beside him.

“Seven months, give or take a few days,” Steve says, wiggling a hand to indicate he’s not quite sure.

“And how long does a human pregnancy last?” Lady Sif questions next, obviously having been listening in, as was most everyone.

“Nine months,” Natasha says from her place on the couch across the way.

“Is an Asgardian pregnancy longer?” Steve questions.

“Long enough, twelve months. You humans have it lucky.” Lady Sif declares, grinning. “Not that I plan on bearing children any time soon.”

“That sounds awful.” Jane hisses, wincing.

“I agree to that.” Steve nods his head, wincing along with her and pressing a hand to his belly. “It feels like it’s been forever, yet somehow gone by so fast at the same time.” He admits.

Chapter 17: The Memorial

Snippet:

“I haven’t gone to the doctor yet,” Steve admits, his brow furrowing, shame filling him. He’s carrying Bucky’s baby, and he hasn’t done anything right so far. God, what is wrong with him? “I was so afraid…I didn’t even think…”

“Hey, don’t spiral.” Sam says hurriedly, “You have the rest of your life to get these things right. You haven’t called the doctor. Then call the doctor.” Sam reaches into Steve’s hoodie pocket and pulls out his phone, holding it out for Steve to take. “Go on, I’ll wait.” 

Steve, who is, indeed, getting ready to spiral into a mess of guilt and shame, fumbles to grab the phone, and, glancing at Sam to make sure it’s really alright, unlocks it. 

He scrolls over to his email and quickly locates Doc Conner’s email to him from a couple of weeks before. He skims the email until he finds a phone number at the end, for the doctor she had recommended. 

Steve inhales sharply as he enters it into his keypad and hits the green call button.

“Dr. Oceanbrook’s Office. This is Anna. How can I help you?” Someone answers on the other line. Steve clutches his phone so tight it creaks in protest. He sucks in a sharp breath, clears his throat, tries to speak, then ends up clearing his throat again. Sam stands beside him, a strong, soothing presence.

“Hello, umm…Anna, my name is Steve Rogers. I need to make an appointment.”

“Oh! Mr. Rogers, Dr. Conner referred you over. I have your medical files already transferred. Let’s get you on the books.”

Steve trembles, and he works his way through getting an appointment. It doesn’t take long. Not long at all, and before he knows it, he’s hung up, and he has an appointment for the following week, provided he fills out some paperwork in the meantime.

Steve lets out an exhale of relief.

Chapter 20: Another Day, Another Mission

Snippet:

“I hear a kid,” Steve says calmly into the comms, even though his heart is racing. “Can’t pinpoint the location.”

“We’re done here and heading your way,” Clint says, his words breathless with exertion. 

“Clear,” Natasha says.

“Clear,” Clint repeats.

They repeat themselves as they clear out the rest of the rooms.

“Not clear! Not clear!” Tony shouts, the sound of his repulsors ripping through the air nearly deafening in their strength. 

Just then, there’s a whining sound, and the deep, juddering, thud thud thud of propeller blades. Then a crashing noise that’s followed by the Hulk’s deep roar. The sound of the helicopter as it whines through the air is high-pitched and keening.

“Shit, it’s heading right for us! Thor! Run!” Tony shouts.

Steve rips off his visor and stares at Tony’s screen, watching as the bulky form of the helicopter comes crashing down to the ground, propellers whining, its front end crushed with a hulk-sized imprint. 

“Get out of there now!” Steve shouts, watching as both Thor and Tony leap out of the way.

There’s a momentous crashing sound, and every camera shakes with the force of the explosion. Thor’s camera goes dark.

Chapter 39: The Decontamination Chamber

Snippet:

Something inside of him had been rearing for the other man to get away. He’d been rooting for him, so much so that he’d pretended not to recognize Rogers immediately when the other man had come upon him and Rumlow in their… compromising position. He’d given Rogers a full five seconds of relief before he’d scrambled to his feet and given chase. And then he’d diverted through the trees, purposefully giving Rogers time to get away. It was just his luck that Rumlow had somehow managed to keep up and capture Rogers without any assistance.

Then he’d seen Rumlow shoot Rogers, and it was like a light went off in his head. He knew he shouldn’t do it, but he’d done it anyway. He’d attacked his handler. The only reason Rumlow wasn’t dead at this very moment was that something in the Asset had protested killing him, and because his mission at the moment hadn’t been a kill order. Without Rumlow, he had no more painkillers, no sex, no moments where he felt like something other than a thing. He hated it, but he craved those moments Rumlow gave him, craved them like he craved water.

Rogers head thuds against his collarbone with each step. He’s shockingly warm in the icy chill of the outdoors. This, the Asset thinks, is probably due to his own blood loss. His body is heavy, weighing down the Asset, but it’s a welcome burden. Something in him protests the idea of Rogers walking on an injured leg. 

“Take him to the decontamination chamber. He’s fucking filthy, and so are you.” Rumlow orders from where he limps beside them, keeping up despite the bad leg. The Asset hopes he trips and falls. 

“Yes, sir.” The Asset whispers. He can’t get his voice to go any louder. A wave of darkness washes over him, and he stumbles but rights himself. In his arms, Rogers curses.

“Let me down. He’s going to pass out. He needs to go to medical.” Rogers snarls, twisting in his arms. The Asset holds him tighter, squeezing his arms close and making Rogers cry out in pain. The Asset flinches at the sound. He hadn’t meant to do that. It’s just that his orders are clear, and he’d been told to make Rogers comply with all orders given by Rumlow, the Scientists, or the Doctors.

“Just shut up, Rogers, Jesus, you’re worse than a baby.”

Summary:

What if Steve was pregnant when he went into the ice?

Chased by grief over the loss of Bucky. Steve takes the Valkyrie into the ice in an attempt to stop Hydra.

70 years later, Steve wakes up in a new time, with new enemies and new friends, but the mission is the same. Bring down the enemy, no matter what. When a mysterious figure known as San Dapth makes his way onto the scene, Steve and the Avengers step forward and heed the call to arms. Together, they have to face down San Dapth and bring him to justice.

It's in their fight against San Dapth that Steve discovers something terrifying. He's pregnant with Bucky Barnes' baby. Now he must learn to live this new life without the man he loves.

Hydra learns of Steve's pregnancy. And they'll do whatever it takes to get to his unborn child, including unleashing their greatest asset from the ice—the Winter Soldier.

When Steve discovers the Winter Soldier and Bucky Barnes are one and the same, he must fight to bring back the man he loves.

Chapter 28: Apartment Hunting

Snippet:

Tony reacts about as well to the news that Steve’s moving out as can be expected. He gripes. He whines. He tries to throw money at the situation. Through it all, Steve stands his ground…well…mostly.

“I can’t believe I agreed to stay until after the baby was born.” Steve groans, staring at his notebook and drawing idly with his pencil, his fingers moving the fine stick across the page with a slow grace that’s strange for someone his size. He’s sitting, curled up, on Natasha’s couch, a hot-pad on his back, and a blanket draped across his lap. He has Natasha to thank for the hot-pad. It is possibly the best thing for his lower back pain, and he’s not sure why he hadn’t thought of it sooner. 

“It’s honestly a good idea. You’re going to need the help, especially in the beginning.” Natasha says from where she’s seated at her pottery wheel. Her hands are covered with red clay as she crouches down over the thing, throwing a pot with surprising ease. 

Steve watches her hands work the clay, first up, then down. She digs her finger into the center and presses the clay out, forming a little bowl before his very eyes.

Chapter 45: Outpost 9

Snippet:

On his right hand side, the woman has finished getting her blood samples and has uncuffed his right arm. The Asset doesn’t need to be told to lift up his right arm; he just does it. It wobbles in the air, then falls to the table.

“Lock it back up.” He feels the cool metal clasp back onto his wrists. “This version is a flop. Let’s wait out the sedative, then I want to give a go with version 2.8.”

It takes an hour for the sedative to wear off. They give him another hour to flush the rest of it out of his system, installing a saline drip in his wrist to speed up the process. He has to piss, but he hasn’t been given permission to relieve himself, so he holds it. 

When the world finally seems to steady itself, they administer the second sedative. It hits him like a freight train. The Asset chokes back a gasp, his eyes widen as his world spins madly out of control. There’s a rainbow-like aura that swims across his vision, and then he feels the oddest sensation of falling, even though he knows he’s strapped down tightly to the gurney.

“Asset, repeat after me. Red.” Doctor Whatever His Name Was orders.
