Scott Wilson donates BP sculpture for World Wildlife Fund auction. Bidding is open: http://bit.ly/bWTJt6
Humanscale's 10th annual Faces in the Wild art auction and fundraiser is set for November 18, 2010, in Humanscale's NYC showroom.
"Slick" the Black Pelican (BP) is Scott Wilson's latest contribution to the event. It is intended to serve as reminder of the impact we have on our planet. Inspired by the BP disaster and the wildlife and wild places devastated by this tragedy. Created in collaboration with my daughters Isabel (6) and Ava (3) the pelican was first sketched on napkins at dinner on vacation, then sculpted in 3D and machined out of solid aircraft grade aluminum before being anodized in black. The minimalist style is intended to capture the essence of the animal and the feelings of the global community in one simple and iconic gesture. It is one of three editions in existence and part of the ongoing series of Faces in Wild original contributions.
Started in 2000, Faces in the Wild has raised more than $390,000 in direct donations to WWF, including matching donations from Humanscale. At the 2008 event, a record $75,000 was raised on bids and donations alone, resulting in a total donation of $150,000.
Past contributions from Scott Wilson have been instrumental in the event's success both financially and qualitatively. His contributions have driven the other designers to raise the bar each year and have consistently fetched the highest dollar amounts.
All Faces in the Wild proceeds are matched by Humanscale and donated to World Wildlife Fund, the leader in international efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats.
