SPOILERS...Let’s just not
A little out-dated from another blog, but thought the idea was still important to share...
I am a self-proclaimed nerd. I love a huge range of what could be considered nerd-based genres, from Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, all the way over to comics such as Arrow, Flash, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and many many more. So it is no wonder why I am writing this, with The Force Awakens being so close we can taste it. But I do have issue with people who have been posting spoilers all over the internet.
By spoiling something amazing about a movie, tv show, book, comic, etc., you are taking the magic away from it entirely. I have a hard time watching teaser trailers, and have a friend who refuses to watch trailers entirely, on the off chance it will spoil something for him.
I understand that people are excited about what they have seen and want to share it with everyone, I get that, but instead of blurting it out, please put a spoiler alet up before saying anything, so we can avoid it if we want to discover it for ourselves.
So here’s a bit of advice for having conversations without spoiling something for someone else.
When bringing up a topic, ask them if they have seen it yet, if not, end the conversation; do not say anything. If they have, say seen part of a season of a show, do not ask them “did you get to the part where she dies?” That is one of the worst ways to innocently spoil something. Instead, ask “how far have you got”, to avoid any accidents.
For those of you who have not seen something and are speaking with someone who has, avoid asking questions about characters, plots, and how it ends. Well, either avoid or be careful what you wish for. By asking these questions, you are coming dangerously close to causing your own spoiler.
If anyone has any other advice, please feel free to post them, these are jsut the ones I could think of off the top of my head.
Until next time…
