She laughed, once, against the other’s lips, kissing her one more time before pulling away. Her cheeks were just as red as Meg’s, a nervous smile wound across her lips.

Where was the allure in this city? Everything, it seemed, had sunken to the bottom of a cesspool. Gone were the bright-eyed days of his youth, though he was still so young. Aged by sin and corruption, a festering disease of the desensitized. Juan sought greater pleasures to replace the ones lacking vitality. There was no satisfying thing to be found here. There was no heartbeat in this dead city.

But it was his city. Not a getaway or an escape. This was a second home. It was all he knew. Among the outcasts and rejects, with the prostitutes and addicts. Nobody knew Las Vegas quite like him. Here, there was acceptance. Here, there was freedom. And he found it in the music tonight, drinking with random people he’d forget tomorrow, trying to find someone - anyone - to relate to.

Starting at the bar, he stood between the stools to order a drink. Something strong to get him through the night. It’s never for the taste anyway. And he noticed her, assuming she was alone just like him and everyone else in this God forsaken place.
