His head moved to the side, gaze shooting towards Kate. For a moment he felt his heart sink, then he glanced down at his wrist. Where the watch was supposed to be. The watch his stepfather had wanted to give him, but had tossed into the trashcan instead. Now he didn’t feel his heart at all. “Where is it?” 

"Oh. Oh, tha'--tha' isn'---" The key was scrapping over the door, not even remotely close to the lock. Shit. He was too drunk to unlock this; quite embarrassing for a thief, but at least no one saw him. A giggle broke from his throat, and with that fit, and leaned forward, Eric bumped his head against the door and let himself sink down to the ground, still laughing like a maniac. Goddamnit, this probably wasn't even his building.

“Erm.” Distracted by the strange man who was leant, laughing, against her front door, Kate let the strap of her bag slip off her shoulder. It slid through her fingers, hit the floor, and split. Spilt its contents all over the carpet: keys, purse, lipstick, phone. “Fuck.”

She stood for a moment—rocking on her heels—unsteady on her feet after spending the evening ( and a large proportion of the afternoon before that ) in the pub—just frowning at the mess. Then she turned her face back towards Eric, and asked, “Do I know you?” Because if they were meant to be meeting, if ever they’d met before, she didn’t remember it, didn’t remember him, now. “Jaysus, I must’ve had more’n I thought. Do you want to come in, but? Might as well have another, if we’ve reached this point already.”

That the woman’s bag suddenly spread all its contents over the floor didn’t help stopping the giggle fit that had overcome the thief – on the contrary, it even became so bad that he cried tears of laughter. It probably wasn’t even funny, but he couldn’t help it. Through the tears Eric glanced up at the woman. Shit, either he was so drunk that everything was moving, or she had been drinking as well.

A smirk stretched across Oracle’s lips. “I sure hope not.” She reached for her escrima sticks which were usually attached to the sides of her chair. Barbara kept up a pretty strict training regiment even after she had become paralyzed. Her legs might not have been able to help her anymore but she still had her arms at her disposal and that fantastic brain of hers.
