Demons in YLTZ are the antithesis to the creatures of the Heavenly Realm. They are far stronger than the average human, and their often elementally aligned powers are fueled by their chaotic demonic qi. Most demons originate from the Demonic Realm, a chaotic and volatile place where the raw forces of nature reshape the landscapes anew constantly. But in some rare cases, if a human with a weak will cultivates the Demonic Path for too long, they will themselves turn into demons.

Physically, demons can either look almost human, or grotesquely beastlike depending on their power. The weakest demons are hardly different from wild beasts, both in looks and temperament. They are still more powerful than most beasts in the Mortal Realm, though. The stronger a demon is, the more human like do they look. But even the most powerful demons often possess certain physical traits that differentiate them visually from humans: unusual skin colors, horns, tails, claws beastlike eyes, golden blood, etc.

The Demonic Realm is divided in many hundred kingdoms, with constantly shifting borders, as the violent nature of demons drives them to constantly wage war against their neighbors. Each kingdom is ruled by a demon king, which either is a powerful demon, born from a powerful clan of demon kings, or one that rose to power of their own accord. But not every demon king rules over a kingdom. The term is generally used for any demon, that has gotten so powerful, that there's hardly any demon left around, that could be their equal in a fight.

After the demon kings, come the noble demons and/or demon generals. These demons are still very strong on their own, and they have asserted the power over their peers to subjugate them and bind them in servitude in exchange for the noble demon's protection. Not every demon, who is as strong, as one, is acknowledged as a noble demon or demon general. A demon must first amass at least over a hundred servants, before they achieve the status of nobility.

Death. It was the inevitable fate that all humans had to face; some earlier than others. Woohyun had vowed, after his parents’ death, to protect those closest to him no matter what it took. Yet he failed, once again, to protect the only relative he held dearest to him - the only relative he had left.

With a bouquet of alstroemerias in hand, he steadily made his way down the dusty old path - the one he’s grown to memorized so well - before finally reaching his destination.

mage things

Mairwen doesn’t think of herself as a mage, she thinks of herself as an apostate or a criminal first and foremost

she is sensitive to lyrium; she can hear it in the sense that some people hear electronics (sort of a soft humming that she can hear better in the quiet but sometimes its really loud), and she only takes it when she has to

she cannot use a staff to save her life. she mis-casts her spells if she tries and would rather cast without a focus than use a staff; in a pinch, she will break off and use the blades from staves as daggers that will channel her magic

demon and spirit things

she avoids sleeping for long periods of time, hoping that it will help keep the demons out of her dreams, she sleeps for about 4 hours at a time most nights. only longer when she’s with someone.

she hears the spirits and demons from the fade when her emotions run high because she never learned how to shut them out.

she lives a somewhat hedonistic lifestyle hoping that it will help avoid the temptation of demons from seeing her as an easy target

she is not opposed to small deals with spirits if they don’t include being possessed or letting them possess someone else

skills

while she is rubbish at cooking, she is fairly good at making potions and poultices and keeps a small supply on herself at all times.

she has a fair amount of skill in storm magic, and is mostly rubbish with other skills; she can cast fire spells and healing spells as well, but they’re not as successful.

As a mage, Mairwen has encountered more than a few demons in her life. She jokes that not many come to her because she does not sleep long enough, but its not strictly true. She just… Didn’t have significant problems with them. Most demons, trying to tempt her, did not have much to offer her, as she knew everything she wanted was either impossible or a double edged blade. She had seen much of that play out when she was younger, and saying yes to a demon meant giving up some of her freedoms, something she values more than anything else.

That does not mean she has the same fear and hostility towards demons and spirits as many of the Circle-mages are. If they did not mean to possess her or someone else, she would be open to striking a bargain. Under certain circumstances.
