While Merryn was working as a bodyguard (post Chantry explosion) did they ever consider settling somewhere other than Kirkwall? Does Merryn believe that their brother is alive? Do they harbor any resentment for the refugees that from Ferelden that led to overcrowding and their mother's death?
During the first six to nine months after leaving Kirkwall, Merryn never really considered āsettlingā at all --- they figured theyād catch a sword or an arrow in the wrong place before they ever got far enough to think about settling. Even after, theyāve never bothered to spare much thought to anything beyond the next day, the next job; moving around isnāt always the easiest, but itās safer that way for someone who prefers to be as invisible as possible.Ā āHomeā is for people with money, with families, theyād tell you.
This oneās heavily verse-dependent, but in theirĀ āmainā verse, heās alive but they believe him to be dead until partway through Inquisitionās timeline (Iāve yet to write it up, but Merrynās personal quest as a companion revolves around their finding out that heās alive). If asked, theyāll either refuse to answer entirely (to someone they donāt know/trust) or acknowledge that he could be, but they hope he isnāt.Ā
Yes and no? Initially, they were incredibly angry --- they were only fourteen when Lillah died --- but over time that anger got redirected from the refugees to Kirkwallās powers that be; Meredith especially, but also the Viscount and Grand Cleric Elthina. Merryn has a strong sense of justice and a good grasp of the chain of responsibility, so while they may lash out at the most convenient target in the immediate aftermath of an event, theyāre not likely to hold long-term grudges against people who arenāt actually responsible.

ā¦ā¦the kidās got talent, thatās for sure. Youngest Iāve ever trained, but theyāve got the most consistent lift of the lot right now and an eye for goods thatāll be easy to flip. Super defensive about their family, but thatās normal, especially at this age. As far as I can tell theyāve got a mother and a brother living in Darktownāgonna have to keep an ear to the ground there. Kid might lose it if anything happened to them, and thatād be a disaster all āround.

5. letters between two companions about them
ā¦ā¦I think Iāve finally figured out where Merryn sleepsāa couple of maids came running out of the kitchen babbling about a scream in the middle of the afternoon, and about ten minutes later Merryn walks out the cellar door with a crease across the side of their face that looked an awful lot like the seam in the shoulder of that jacket theyāre always wearing. I donāt know what worries me more; that theyāre sleeping in the cellar, or that theyāre having nightmares bad enough to wake up screaming.
ā¦ā¦Sleeping in the cellar? Maker, I had no idea. Leliana must know, but if she hasnāt done anything I believe thereās nothing she canĀ do, which would indicate thereās little hope for the rest of us. Still, I can see about arranging a proper room, if you think you can convince them to actually use it. Iām afraid I canāt do much about the nightmares, but perhaps Adan or Elan might have some sort of tonic that might help? I try not to meddle, but I do hate knowing and not at least attempting to make it right.
