    “You should get some rest,”

  Exhaustion was pulling at them both, threatening to push them under, but Wendy knew that she would just have to hold on a little LONGER. At least until the other had fallen asleep.

     Panting, Wendy sat upright in bed, looking around as if she was trying to search for something, something that had ESCAPED her, or maybe someone who was coming for them. She was used to shadows being around at this point, but this? This had been different.

   “It...it was...” She muttered, managing to catch herself for a moment. She didn’t want to WORRY him. She never wanted to worry anyone, really. It was an instinct to protect the people she cared about, but this...

    “It was just...a bad dream.” Wendy then managed, ignoring the way her chest TIGHTENED even further.

    “I don’t think the world is just black and white, Peter.”

   Wendy could feel her chest tightening ever so slightly at his words. She had always been a firm believer that everyone deserved a chance at a happy ending. Everyone who was willing to work for it, should at least get a shot. She knew that people could change, for better or for worse.

   “Happiness doesn’t wait for you to think that you deserve it. It just...comes around, and then you get to decide what you do with that,”

     “Then what’s the POINT of it?”

   Wendy found herself asking as she glanced up at the sky. “If there’s no end, I mean,” She continued, her voice quiet and calm as she spoke. “What is there to look forward to? Where’s the joy in doing things you might only be able to do once?”

   It wasn’t there, she knew as much, because while there were endless possibilities, there was also no end to anything, and therefore nothing SPECIAL about the whole thing.

    “Being ALONE.”

   It was almost a surprise to her, how quickly the answer came. Wendy, funny enough, had always enjoyed being alone before coming here. She had enjoyed having a book to read and no one to disturb her, but somehow that had faded the longer she had been here.

   Being alone TERRIFIED her, because it meant that she was alone with her thoughts. Something that was hard to handle on good days, and impossible on all the others. 

“And what way is that, little bird of mine?”

   He was SICK. The fever was wearing him down, Wendy could see it. If she was ever going to leave Neverland, then this was the time.

   The thing was: Leaving wasn´t that EASY. It might have been all she wanted when she´d first gotten her, but that had been a long time ago.  And people changed. She certainly had. Picking up the wet cloth, Wendy refreshed it in the water bowl and then put it back onto his forehead.

   “Do you even KNOW what a pinky promise is?” She smiled, reaching out to link their fingers together, just staying still for a moment.
