btw in the official sonic channel site for chip's character description, chip's age, species, and gender is listed as "???"/unknown

i remembering watching a video where a guy on archie vs idw which he is like "in archie, they'll show you the map of the world and characters actually talk about distances with naming the specific locations in said world, but in idw, the only map we have so far is made by a young girl (cream) that's obviously meant to be inaccurate because idw is not allowed to show the specifics of the world due to being connected to game canon" and he's so right like where the fuck are the places of idw are even located at?? goes to how being connected to canon really hampers on idw because they're not even allowed to show where the places are located in specific parts of sonic world at all

i feel like the only lore explanations from idw sonic comics is just showing what happened to mecha sonic mk ii and other eggman bots that haven't been seen since classic era (they're on scrapnik island) or why is metal sonic just strangely absent during eggman's takeover during forces (his neo form is being forcibly reprogrammed to be loyal) that's it

lanolin has the misfortune of being a character that gets frustrated with the mc and main good guys on how they handle the main villain and other bad guys in series with mandate of "good guys always win in the end" and how so much consequences of bad guys' actions is always easily resolved with brushed off as nothing since everything will be hunky dory from sonic and co just fixing things up afterwards

i have this theory/hc that idw sonic comics are actual comic book series in game sonic canon where they are based on offscreen adventures that happened way differently in reality and the reason why no humans appear in idw besides eggman because these comic book series primarily aimed at animal folk audience and released in animal folk only areas (thus certain idw characters are actually human in reality but made into animal folk for the idw comics)

it's pretty funny that people really do think eggman first made metal's neo form despite sonic heroes and metal's official sonic channel profile outright states that metal made the neo form on his own lol
