MR. KANG TAEHYUN, several witnesses speak of seeing you very inebriated at the event. are you still able to tell us what time you exited the club and a name that can confirm this information?
taehyun is no stranger to being subjected to police questioning. there have been plenty of times where he had been in the wrong place at the wrong time or causing mischief that the cops had been called to or, you know... the whole building incident. all those times were understandable. he was not exactly squeaky clean in the past and it made sense for the police to ask about his involvement. but taehyun is trying to change. his days of being out of control and causing trouble were (for the most part) behind him. sure, he'd get too drunk sometimes and have to stagger home from a bar or take a pill or two in some club bathroom to have a fun time. for the most part though, taehyun really was trying to turn it all around.
"uhhh," he started. the clock on the wall was ticking loud enough to distract him from the question at hand, a bead of sweat on the officer's forehead catching taehyun's eye and taking away his focus even more.
he had an image to uphold. sure, he had one to maintain when he was in his reckless years, but he was nearing 30 now. his father had lost almost all respect for him, he was almost certain his siblings thought lower than low of him, any classmates or peers from his past saw him fall from grace. he was trying to make all of it better now. he wanted his father to trust him again and see that he is still good, somewhere, maybe deep down.
"i had a couple of drinks, yeah." no, he shouldn't admit to that. be smart taehyun. "i wasn't blacked out or anything." stop being so aggressive, they'll think something's up. they'll see you as a menace, a bad influence, a criminal. taehyun looks up at the clock and sees that hardly any time has passed at all even though it felt like he had been sitting in the interrogation room for hours.
he says the first person he can think of. "seoha. chae seoha." taehyun swallows thickly, blinks a few times to clear his head and think quickly on his feet. "she was the last person i talked to at the event." his finger tap nervously on his leg underneath the table. "we were talking at the bar before i left. we hit it off so i got her number and then we parted ways."
think taehyun, think. can she confirm what time you left? he thinks back to when he left, seoha's smile behind his eyes as he blinks again. "my phone!" taehyun says suddenly. "i texted her when i left the club, thanking her for hailing me a taxi and for talking to me after i had a rough time. it'll have a time stamp. i don't know the exact minute but it had to have been somewhere around 1 in the morning. i texted her around then, i'm sure of it."
the rain is cold as it soaks through taehyunâs jeans, his knees getting increasingly more numb as the wind cuts through the fabric. his bike is going fast, maybe too fast, he canât really tell. he isnât paying attention anymore to the things around, instead getting lost in his thoughts as the seoul street pass around him. lights flashing, horns honking, people laughing and screaming in all walks of life. all heâs focusing on is how hard his hands are gripping the handles of his motorcycle, his knuckles straining against the leather of his gloves.Â
he really had been trying to be better. taehyun had spent most of his lonely nights trying to forget why his brain felt like static and the rain is a nice distraction tonight. his night started at a dinner with a few old friends, lowkey and easy. he made sure not to get his bar tab too high; he has some semblance of an image to uphold after all. as nice as the rain may be, itâs not enough. the bottle of vodka clinking around in his backpack are the distraction he needs.
itâs almost a surprise even to him when he ends up parking his bike outside of hwanheeâs place, backpack strap slung over his shoulder and tracks of rain falling down the sides of his cheeks. his hair is plastered against his forehead sending droplets on his eyelashes, into his eyes. knocking on his brotherâs door seems daunting in a way he never expected it to be, the sound echoing in his head at the same beat as his heart: too fast and too strong. the door opens and he just knows how dejected he must look based on his brotherâs face alone.
âhey,â taehyun starts, water on his helmet under his arm seeping through his clothes to his skin, âi was hoping i could come in.â the bottles in his bag clink against each other as he shrugs his shoulder. âi brought refreshments.â
i never thought iâd see the day, where iâd just let you go, let you walk away.

the first thing taehyun feels, honestly, is disbelief. theyâve done this countless times before; fought, fucked, made up. wash, rinse, repeat. it hasnât lasted before, it wonât last this time. sure, theyâll ignore each other for a a few days, a week maybe, see each other at outings and do nothing other than make eye contact before looking away again. then theyâll only start talking again when one of them gets tired of their right hand and get too lonely. he doesnât think anything of it this time, just goes and gets a drink and punches his pillow only a few times. no tears, no fuss.Â
one week and 2 days go by. Heâs nowhere to be seen. taehyun starts to get nervous, pulls up their text chat over and over to see that his olive branch message still hasnât been read, rereads his sentences and tries to figure out if heâs said something unforgiveable. itâs frustrating.Â
two weeks and 4 days go by. Heâs radio silent. there have been no sightings of Him anywhere and none of taehyunâs connections have heard anything from him. itâs concerning.
three weeks and 5 days go by. Heâs gone. taehyun moves from anxious to angry, fire licking at his veins, fueled on by the liquor it finds there and burning him from the inside out. they never go this long without connecting back to each other. never.Â
itâs at some point in week four that taehyun thinks he sees Him as heâs leaving a club bathroom, nose full of powder and stomach full of high shelf liquor . his vision is fuzzy (just slightly) and tae wipes at his face, pulls at his shirt to straighten it out, runs a hand through his damp hair to make it look a little bit more presentable. heâs watching His back walking away and taehyun starts to power walk cause damnit, heâs not letting Him slip through his fingers again.Â
he almost throws up when he catches up to Him and realizes that itâs not Him. he is a stranger.Â
the other man has the same build, same hair, same aura as Him, enough that it makes taehyunâs head spin (but that was also the drugs). he buys him a drink in apology for startling him when tae had grabbed his arm, whipped him around and pressed him up to the wall behind them. he buys him another drink when the man gives him those eyes that are so close to what he wants, what heâs used to seeing. he buys him another after he blows taehyun in the bathroom and wonât stop complaining about the taste in his mouth.Â
it starts a trend. a pattern. taehyun goes out, sees someone who even slightly resembles Him and makes it his mission to get with them. see if they sound as pretty as He did. itâs almost like some fucked up version of goldilocks.Â
one thatâs too loud and whiny, his moans echoing off the bare walls of the k palace suite. he keeps trying to talk dirty and itâs not working and taehyun finishes himself off in the bathroom instead after kicking him out.
one whoâs eyes were too different that he had to look at a wall the whole time after the man refused to flip over. he was too quiet, too stubborn, too... wrong.Â
then there was one who was almost right. right size, right temperament. he entertains the idea that maybe, this would work. taehyun saw him a couple of times before the other shoe dropped, the man broke it off, and he realized just how lonely he was.
it leads to an agony that bites at his heels to remind him itâs still there even if it been weeks, months. even if he rides his motorcycle 100mph down open roads, even if he drinks so much that he passes out night after night, even if he takes upper after upper just to feel something. he canât think about Him without feeling like his skin is burning and his insides are falling out from this hole in his chest and his throat closes (maybe enough to finally stop all of this). and he cries and screams and hits the walls until his knuckles are broken and bleeding and he sleeps and runs and fights and, and, and-
taehyun just wants it to stop.Â
taehyun wants to feel normal again.Â
taehyun wants to rewind to 2 months, 3 weeks, 6 days ago and pull on His shirt to stop him from leaving. wrap his arms around Him and hold Him down. lock his feet around His ankles like a toddler afraid to be alone and hold on tight.
taehyun is afraid to be alone. heâs no better than a toddler. no better than Him. no good at all.
the last thing taehyun feels is numb. heâs come full circle, all the stages of grief have passed through him. he hasnât gotten to acceptance but maybe he will at some point. maybe he wonât. maybe heâll stay this husk of a person that he is forever, constantly trying to fill the void thatâs shaped like Him. maybe heâll be okay with empty. itâs just like when He was actually here. taehyunâs world is still full of maybes instead of definites. maybe itâs like He never left at all.

his hands were shaking. taehyun didnât know if it was because of the cold he had just come in from or the nerves (it was definitely the nerves). the bar was loud, patrons dressed in their trendy outfits and shiny shoes that definitely didnât belong in the bars taehyun normally went to. those bars were a bit more gritty; there was more of a change that your shoes would get stuck to the floor from spilt drinks than stay pristine. he was more comfortable in bars like that. he could blend in a bit more.
this one felt a bit more like neutral ground. the faces around him were unfamiliar and it wasnât often heâd run into anyone he knew here. for the most part, the prices werenât high enough and the shelves didnât carry the top liquors that people from his âcircleâ typically liked. it felt more like a fresh start here than anywhere else he could have picked. the condensation on the side of his drink dripped onto the back of his hand that was wrapped around the glass. he took a sip, looked around. set the glass back down on the table.Â
he was nervous. anxious. this would be the first time heâd seen jiahn in years. memories of smiles were replaced with sounds of metal scraping and screams and taehyun had to stay away. he couldnât look his old friend in the face, not after everything that happened. not after the guilt ate through taehyun until nausea became his new normal. taehyun started picking at the skin on the sides of his fingernails, zoning out while looking at the table, tried to steady his breaths.
a shadow passing over his table brought his gaze back into focus. if he had stared at the table for any longer, he might have burned holes into it. he felt like he was facing the worst of his fears, like jumping into a shark tank or skydiving without a parachute. taehyun took a deep breath, held it in his lungs before looking up. âjiahn, hey.â his hand that was on his leg squeezed the side of his knee, grounding him. âitâs been a while, man.â
howdy everyone! popping in to say that i have officially(tm) finished updating taehyunâs plot page. i wanted to be ~aesthetically pleasing~ which means the descriptions are super broad so we still have room to brainstorm off of them. but! speaking of! iâm always down for brainstorming, these plots are mainly just a way to start that. if anything catches your eye, please let me know! (also putting this out there that if i havenât answered your message, please never be afraid to double message me. iâm actively trying to be better about response time but some times things slip under the radar that is my brain)
when: 2019, post building burning
where: an unknown police station
cause your life go by and your life go fast,
if youâre gonna wanna fly, youâre gonna have to crash.
itâs almost peaceful, in a way. hitting rock bottom.
the cell door bars are cool under taehyunâs sweating palms. he can feel his pulse thrumming against them, a constant bahdum going at a speed thatâs probably too fast. heâs had a lot of liquor, a lot of nicotine, a lot of adrenaline and a lot of uppers coursing through his veins tonight and the near painful cold of the metal is soothing. his hands were (are) burning as were (are) his eyes and lungs and nose and brain and-
he smells the smoke laced in his clothes like itâs a new cologne, heady and deep. itâs in his hair, the scent and the ash, and when he runs his fingers through the strands, they come back slightly more grey than they were before. on the one hand, it reminds him of being young and going on summer vacations. the bright blaze searing itâs way into his mind. the crackling sound mixed with waves and laughter and stories from different generations. the smoke lingering on a marshmallow thatâs a little too cooked. the warmth slowly leaking away after the fire has been properly put out and everyone heads to bed. it was the same way tonight, too.Â
taehyunâs mind has gone blank. vaguely, in the distance, he can hear other people around him over the roaring in his ears. over the blood drumming a steady beat, rhythmic and grounding. his eyes find a spot on the tile floor beneath him, cheap and white and specked with either dirt or blood, and his eyes never leave the spot. heâs not blinking. his mind is racing and coming to a screeching halt and then starting the process over again but heâs still not blinking.Â
his jaw hurts. why does his jaw hurt? he runs a hand over the joint and pushes down too hard, feeling pain singe through his teeth up to his temple before pulling his fingers away. he does the same on the other side. he blinks this time, though. it forces him to take his gaze from the floor and to fixate on something else. how about the clock this time?Â
the clock is no good. the clock makes his skin crawl, feel too tight on his bones, too hot too hot too hot. the ticking picks up and he can hear it over the ringing in his ears, over his pulse thatâs speeding up, over every single fucking sound that he can hear in the station. the clock is going too slow, taehyun knows it is, because thereâs no way that heâs only been here for twenty-three minutes and nineteen (twenty, now) seconds.Â
he needs water. he should probably drink some water but that would mean leaving the cool bars under his palms even if they are warm now anyway. he tries to open his mouth to speak but his throat feels raw, scratched and torn to shreds from too much intentional and non-intentional smoke that he breathed in. he minds wanders for a second to think about how much damage they actually did, how much money it would take to sweep this under the rug like parents have been doing for their children for ages. he thinks he probably has enough. itâs not like any one died.Â
except now, in the present day, someone did die. itâs too dramatic but when has taehyun ever not had a flair for dramatics? the kang taehyun from before was long gone and had probably been dead for longer than they really knew. gone was the taehyun that thought his parents would always be proud of him, that he was a good kid who looked out for others and made sure things got done right. now all taehyun does is wonder if he really is good or if itâs just a front to try and become who he used to be. imposter syndrome and all that. now taehyun just wants to coast by, still feeling a little bit broken and a lot bit angry.Â
but when you hit the bottom, thereâs only two ways to go: you can pull yourself up or dig yourself even further down to a place where you donât recognize yourself. fingers crossed he doesnât get out a shovel.Â
all she knows is that theyâre off to a good start, with him offering her another drink. sheâll definitely take it. âiâd like one,â seoha answers, taking the seat next to him. âiâll get what heâs having,â she calls for the bartender. taehyunâs slightly scathing tone doesnât go unnoticed, but she doesnât speak on it, not in the way it might ruffle his feathers.Â
instead, she says, âiâm lucky, then.â to an untrained eye, it might seem as if sheâs being flirtatious, but seoha is hoping that taehyun knows better than to understand it in that sense; her words come from good-natured, light humor. a polite jab at trying to alleviate his negativity. her attempt at breaking the ice, which doesnât happen that often. âitâs going to be hard for me to stay sober at this event.â
she feels a bit like a breath of fresh air. taehyun has been sitting in this funk for a while now, stewing over words he wished he could swallow back down and things he wished he could unsee and anxieties clawing at his skull that he wished would disappear. but seoha makes it feel lighter. he doesnât know her, not really. a brief conversation here or there in school and then never seeing each other outside of events, but not enough to say they were friends. not even enough to say acquaintances.Â
but here they are, mulling over gin and tonics and talking like they went way back. seoha made the atmosphere seem lighter in a way by not immediately judging taehyunâs bitter smiles and remarks. even in school, she had always been a tad bit unapproachable, known for being intimidating, but taehyun had never really thought of her that way. after all, in this special subsection of society, who couldnât be intimidating?Â
itâs odd to be talking with someone who seems so much of your opposite yet so similar at the same time. they both are the first borns which means responsibilities, pressure, power. things taehyun was trying to earn back after fucking up. both were involved in law, just with taehyun breaking it all those years ago and seoha upholding it. so far, itâs nice to be with someone who doesnât know his whole awful story. he can just be taehyun. even with that in mind, itâs not like his bad mood has magically vanished.Â
âlucky, huh?â the corner of his lip shoots up in a small crooked smile, quick before falling back into a neutral expression. âyou might not be saying that in the next few minutes. i seem to have a track record for ruining peopleâs fun tonight.â he glances at seoha, studies her face for minute to try and get a feel for her, what her vibe is, before turning back to his drink. the remnants of lime on the edge of the glass are sharp and tart when he takes a sip. ânot having such a great night yourself? or just in general is it not a good idea to be sober at events like this?â

hi everyone! daisy here. i finally got around to re-messaging everyone i think (???) about plotting since my way long hiatus ended. iâm working on getting my plots pages up and running for both tae and kana (since itâs easier for me to keep track of things that way) but iâm always up for brainstorming things as well. per usual, you can find me on discord @ daisydaisy#5293 or tumblr ims as well. i hope you all had/are having the happiest of holidays!Â
instead, steering away from complicated love lives, he says casually, âhey, you know, iâm thinking of maybe competing. racing, just for fun.â itâs no secret to taehyun that hwanhee had found a recent newfound passion for it, but itâs the first time heâd brought up anything professional. and despite their close relationship, despite the reality that hwanhee seems to be more of an adult than his older brother is, he still cares too much about what taehyun thinks about him. itâs cheesy, but how taehyun sees hwanhee, that means the world.Â
itâs also why he needed to liquid courage to tell him. drinkable fire for the feeble heart. it had been a while since theyâd set aside time for a heart to heart conversation (and hwanhee was so busy that he barely saw his brotherâs face, save for the hotel) that every slow passing, hazy minute seemed (ironically) fleeting.Â
itâs rare, to be spending quality time with his little brother. what was once a close knit companionship turned stilted like everything else seems to do. the kang brothers were inseparable, at each otherâs hips growing up, with in jokes and games only they knew how to play. but in the blink of an eye, taehyun was 28, his brother not too far behind him, and they were damn near strangers.Â
they are still close, just in the way youâre close with someone who you donât really share secrets with anymore when they used to be the first person you told. close in the way that you donât think you could name off his favorite movies anymore but have the ones he watched everyday for weeks on end as preteens engrained in your head. youâre close in the way that you know him inside out, just maybe the inside out of 15 years ago.Â
but now, they get the addition of liquor. just the thing taehyun needs to get loose lipped and feeling good. it gives him an in to feel softer, more affectionate with his brother, heart on his sleeve and all that. when he drinks, his smiles come out and spread from ear to ear, full and bright and genuine. in the same vein, he drinks and his anger, his sadness, frustration come out in droves, fiery beneath his skin and trying to claw itâs way out. heâs trying to keep it all in for hwanheeâs sake, his brother doesnât need to see that side of him. that monstrous side that gets him in trouble with his actions and his words, tonight isnât the time for that.Â
the leather of the sofa squeaks under taehyunâs palm as he rests it on the cushion to push himself up to a better sitting position. he has enough top shelf clear liquor in him to forget how to work his legs without forcing them to move. âwe should stop drinking,â he mocks back to hwanhee, a playful frown pulling at his lips before he bursts into a fit of giggles with his younger brother. his face is flushed, as is hwanheeâs. he wonders off handedly if itâs from joy, anger, alcohol, or a mix of all three.Â
âiâll stop drinking when you stop pouring.â he shoots back the liquor that was just poured into his cup, gone enough that he doesnât feel even the slightest of burn at it going down the back of his throat. he hears a laugh outside that sounds familiar enough to put him on edge but taehyun told himself heâd stop thinking about him for the time being.Â
racing. his baby brother racing. taehyun has been to plenty of street races in his life, auto and moto. felt the asphalt rumble under his feet, smelt the rubber burning off of the tires as the cars sped off into the distance. felt the adrenaline rush through him as the cops chased them off of whatever alleyway they were in. he loves racing, but imagining hwanhee doing it a job, for forever?Â
âprofessionally?â is all he can mutter out. flashes of car wrecks invade his mind unkindly and hwanhee is pouring him another drink with a grin taehyun wishes he could mirror back. his ears are getting hot and his hands are getting clammy and that guy outside really needs to stop laughing before taehyun has to go an confirm with his own two eyes that itâs him and he really doesnât want-Â
he shakes his head. clears it all out. âwhat brought this idea on?â he smiles. wipes his hands on his pants to get the sweat off and then wipes at his upper lip, swiping away the sweat collecting there. he reminds himself: itâs time to be a good big brother, taehyun.
the first glass of champagne is downed in two long sips, oasis for a dry throat. she gives herself a minute or two, but her plan seems to have worked because sheâs soon scanning the floor for people she knows. it takes her awhile (because there are just some individuals that seoha is acquainted with but would rather not meet), but seoha finally finds somewhat of a familiar face.Â
kang taehyun, if she remembers correctly from their time at saebom together. whom she can try to hold a conversation with. besides, thatâs why sheâs here at this goddamn welcome party: to attempt to socialize, be the smiling âprettyâ face of the chae family in front of their fledgling politician neighbors.
walking up to him, seoha taps him on the shoulder. âtaehyun, right?â itâs a question, but her tone resembles a statement. âkang taehyun.â
his night has been long, draining in a way that makes his limbs feel heavy, his bones weighing him down. leave it to kang taehyun to fight with as many people that he cares about as he can at event like this one. he doesnât mean to, truly he doesnât. sometimes, taehyunâs emotions just get the better of him. one drink turns to three, words of niceties turn to words of pain and anger, miscommunication making his blood boil without a way to control it.Â
he has thought he was over this. the gnawing in the back of his brain that tells him the worst of people. that was 2017 taehyun. the kid who didnât care about anything but himself and his feelings only. he thought he was over that. but the green eyed monster strikes again and again and again when he least expects it and his anger takes over with no way to control it. heâs a big boy now, he should be better at dealing with his emotions, or at least concealing them.
for now, taehyun hides his feelings in the most obvious way he can: more drinks. it was actually pretty smart of him to stick to only gin and tonics for the evening instead of mixing his liquors cause that would get even messier. heâs knocking back the last bit of his sixth cocktail when he motions for the bartender for a refill. thereâs still plenty of night left for an extra drink, right? itâs as heâs squeezing his lime into the drink when he hears someone call his name over his shoulder. he turns around to face them, a little clumsy but nothing taehyun couldnât hide with a distracting hand running through his hair.Â
âthe one and only,â he says with a flourish, his arm coming up next to himself as if showing off a prize. he takes in her face, notices the smart suit that matches the no nonsense attitude of his old school mate. âchae seoha, wow.â he grabs his drink and takes a quick sip, the bubbles burning the back of his throat. âitâs been a while.â his mind shuffles through memories trying to remember the last time he truly had seen her. he glances down and notices the empty glass in he hand. âcare for another drink? feel free to take the seat here nest to mine. itâs not like itâs saved for anyone else.â he sounds bitter, he knows he does, but he canât help it.Â
taehyun is already sick, so haseok doesnât figure that when he slips under the duvet that taehyun will care much of him wearing his outdoor clothes. he leaves little room for haseok on the edge of the bed, opting not to complain. up close he can see just how tired and dull taehyunâs complexion looks, even after his meal. haseok doesnât comment, instead, pushes back the curtain of hair covering taehyunâs eyes out of the way to part his matted hair at the center of his forehead. he figures taehyun will be out any moment. âi hope you liked the stew.â
he wants to bottle it up, this moment heâs found himself in. bottle it up and put a cork in it, save it for a rainy day when he canât stop thinking and canât stop feeling and canât stop his heart from telling him things he doesnât want to hear. he sees haseok, softer than usual, softer than others see him, like itâs reserved just for the confines of taehyunandhaseok and for no one else.
itâs deceptively nice. deceivingly sweet. itâs everything taehyun could ask for and all he had to do was get the flu for it to happen. heâs won. haseok is crawling under the covers with him and it feels right. feels like the universe has clicked itself into place and aligned all the planets in every solar system up with one another perfectly and all it took was jin haseok admitting the tiniest of defeats to taehyun.
heâs not going to kid himself into thinking that itâll stay this way, that heâll wake up to a confession of a love that they both know is there but has yet to be said. yet to been owned up to. but they both clearly know that haseokâs hesitance is standard for whatever their doing and soon enough, taehyun will go back to pining for a man who refuses to realize that whatever power he prays to built them for one another.
but for now heâs happy, snuggling into the covers even more, warm from fever and from the body heat pressed against him. taehyun preens under the attention haseok is giving him, leans into every soft touch heâs given, feels his heart grow impossibly bigger with every look from him.
âthe stew was perfect,â at this point, taehyun is fighting a losing battle against sleep. his eyelids feel like lead as he tries to keep them open just enough to look at haseok, eyes focusing in and out. âI canât remember the last time I ate, actually.â he lets out a chuckle that turns into a hacking cough, his face buried in the pillow under him so heâs not coughing in the other manâs face.
they look at each other for a few seconds, the time seeming to pass both too quickly and too slowly. âi donât want to go to sleep,â taehyun admits, reaching out under the covers to blindly search for haseokâs hand, settling instead on wrapping his arm loosely around his waist, pressing little circles in haseokâs back. taehyunâs body betrays him and he opens his mouth to yawn deeply. âif I fall asleep, promise youâll wake me up.â
the âbecause I donât want to miss a second of thisâ goes without saying.
