Sobbing.

I know we’re exposed to it in some capacity all the time, but today was the first time that I helped my patient make end of life decisions simply because he can’t afford treatment. He’s from out of the country, doesn’t have insurance. The chemo he needs is literally sitting in the building, and despite two weeks of our team trying to find a way, he’s not allowed to have it.

I feel like the executioner here.

And now we’re transitioning to hospice when he could have an additional two to three years. Sure, they might have been complicated years, years filled with multiple more admissions. But I feel like he should have had the option to choose rather than have it decided for him.
