Stargate SG-1, 07.01 Fallen
Everything I read about recovering from burnout is like āit takes months or even years to fully recoverā and itās like okayā¦. I have a weekend before I gotta clock in on Monday
Stargate, which received a series order by Prime Video in November 2025, will not be moving forward, Deadline has confirmed.
This makes me so sad! šššššš
This is exactly what i DON'T want. ššš Let's face it, in 2026 the only people who are interested in checking out a new Stargate show are the ones who have enjoyed the original series. So getting a showrunner who had worked on those was a great sign that promised a continuation all that worldbuilding, but with a new entry point.
If Amazon's issues were so fundamental that notes to the showrunner couldn't bring them into alignment, then i don't want Amazon's version. If there ever is one. š¤¬š¤¬š¤¬š”
If Amazon wanted a total reboot, why not do it from the beginning? If they had, I would have been sad about the choice but I would have understood it because it has been so long, etc. and 'hey, this might suck, but I'll give it a go because sure.'
But to do this? To dangle what we actually want* in our faces and then TAKE IT AWAY????
No, I'll have none.
*And of course, the Gero version still might not have been any good, but at least there would be the warm and fuzzies of the same universe** and the potential for cameos and references to previous characters because we have been living on leftovers for a decade so please, give us the fresh crumbs!
**I also admit the hypocrisy of this statement as someone who did not care for SGU at all in tone or content,*** with it being also tainted by the bitterness of the Atlantis cancellation, so no, the same universe doesn't guarantee a good show. But STILL.
***And maybe it's been long enough that I might give it a fair shot were I to rewatch it now??? I liked Eli. Rush was interesting. Felt sorry for Tamara and the baby. But that was it. At least Rodney appeared for two seconds.
I feel a little bad for being relieved at this news.
At least we can keep what we loved. I am so, so sick of beloved media getting a "modern reboot" that ends up ignoring what made the original great, shoving something I never wanted in my face, and telling me I'm a bad person for not loving it. I don't need some company to tell me who my favorite characters are or why I love them.
Sometimes a show ends before we want it to. Sometimes the show was great for a while, but it tanked for one reason or another. Not every show needs to be brought back. I'd rather a show stay great than be brought back and ruined.
I was not terribly hopeful about the show although Martin Gero was basically the one producer from the original Bridge Boyz Club who didn't seem to hate the female characters or the female fans. I thought maybe it might be a return to the things that made SG1 and early SGA enjoyable rather than the SGU crap. But aside from feeling bad for the staff (this is way late to yank approval, which means people just lost jobs) I'm also somewhat relieved.

doing a chorus line tribute and NOT DANCING is crazy town
Remember when joining fandom as a younger person meant lurking for a bit and figuring out the vibe and etiquette instead of coming in on day one and calling people weirdos for liking weirdo shit in the weirdo factory.
it is funny that the climatic moment of the first six star wars movies hinges on luke cutting off vaders hand and goingā¦waitā¦..iāve become just like himā¦.the cycle stops nowā¦..meanwhile thereās his mentor spiders kenobi who cuts off 1000 limbs a day and dgaf. iām not saying obi wan is evil but u have to admit thatās funny

Shoutout to Lorneās hair for looking like that.
Shout out to Lorne in general
We donāt talk about Lorne enough
I know heās one of the favourite side characters but still. Not enough.
One of the most common complaints about Star Trek I saw growing up was āwhy donāt they use the holodeck more? If you were living in that time period and you could just make anything you wanted anytime you wanted and live out fantasies forever, why arenāt more people addicted to the holodeck?ā
And then generative ai was created.
And now I get it. I get why nobody on Star Trek spends all their free time in the holodeck. I get why all the crew are putting on stage plays, and holding music recitals, and building models, and playing poker. I get why everyone was so skeptical and mean to the Doctor on Voyager. I get why the ONE TIME we see someone obsessed with the holodeck it infringes on peopleās likeness rights and permissions.
Because fundamentally at the end of the day we are human beings and we ENJOY working with our hands and making REAL human connections. A person who learns to play an instrument is always going to be viewed as an artist over someone who asks the computer to generate music for them.
Even as recent as Lower Decks they were making fun of the fact that the crew were putting on amateurish plays and holding music recitals. But after living with Ai for so long and seeing how detrimental itās been to the world⦠Iād much rather watch my friends put on a stage play than āparticipateā in a holodeck movie.
Whatās most amazing about this is that it was completely unintentional. I do not for one second think that the writers of the time in the 90ās were really thinking about the larger issues that generative ai and chatGTP would cause. How could they? Text to speech back then was still robotic as heck. More likely they wrote that stuff in because it was cheaper to film on sets the owned than try to build, film, or rent out different locations each week.
Thatās the down to earth logistical real reason Data is reciting poems about his cat or Riker is in a play put on in ten forward. Itās just cheaper to do that than to build a whole new set or move production to a new location.
Yet at the end of the day, I think that unintentionally speaks to a very human need that ai is making more and more prevalent to us day in and day out.
And thatās the fact nobody wants to deal with generative SLOP.
