I've got to say, getting more than one thing fixed on the new ride in the span of a day is extremely refreshing
Honestly an LS swap Discovery 2 wouldn't be a bad idea
OP of that post about Vipers knows what theyâre talking about re: cars but essentially everybody in the notes has decided to be incredibly incorrect about everything from âthis is a badly engineered car, obviouslyâ (false, this thing was beating supercars in the 90s and essentially ruled the road until the C6 came out) all the way to âitâs ugly [?????] and looks like two cars slapped togetherâ or âis this babyâs first car design?â (it was designed by the same guy who did the Miata and is a good looking car, visually, you just donât know anything) and Iâm distinctly reminded of how half of this site apparently still doesnât know how to drive.
it dawned on me earlier when i was explaining dodge vipers to a friend who doesn't know cars how fucking insane they were
this fucking thing is notorious for being incredibly dangerous to drive. like, it straight up wants to kill you. there are several reasons for this:
-massive engine combined with a very lightweight body. absolutely insane amount of torque.
-no airbags
-no ABS, no traction control, no electronic driver aids whatsoever
-stiff suspension, lots of power and wide tires meant that it was incredibly twitchy and would oversteer badly if you didnt manage it perfectly
-the tires werent really equipped to handle all of that power so they'd often lose grip or just literally fucking melt
-it does not like bumps. if the pavement isnt perfect and youre going fast, it will spin out
-its exhaust pipe is positioned so that it's extremely easy to get burned by it when exiting the vehicle
no airbags is fucking insane; please tell me it at least has seatbelts
it did have seatbelts! it did not have external door handles though lol
To be clear the tires are fine, actually, but because they had to be so wide to handle the power of the car theyâre made very rarely, and are very expensive to replace so Viper owners often drive on old, dry-rotted tires that no longer have the necessary grip to handle the forces the car demands.
Youâre really talking about the first gen viper here, which is the most insane one you can buy, as later models came with airbags, a roof, etc, but this tire issue persists even through the final generation of the car irrc.
didn't know that about the tires, that makes sense
and yeah this post is about the first gen. probably should've specified but i honestly didn't think it would get any notes so i didn't really bother
If my memory doesn't fail me, the Carrera GT had the same tire issue. Recently they had to do a big recall on the CGTs and Porsche threw in a new set of tires to placate owners, which resulted in the car beating it's own Nurburgring record.
The Viper in all its generations is an all around insane car even in the later generations with more safety considerations, to the point that rebuilt titles from crashed cars from certain years barely impact resale value for collectors. Which is an insane statement!

Despite my distaste for the general rationale behind its creation I'm slightly in love with the Ferrari Luce as the car is essentially Ferrari asking "What if Syd Mead designed the Prius?"
I can grow to love the design but this fits nowhere into the Ferrari stable from an exterior design standpoint. Much too quotidian a design for the prancing pony. The Amalfi costs half as much and holds ten times more the Ferrari Sophistication you expect from the design house rather than an attractive econopod.
I'm not the first to say it, but lowering and widening the car would do wonders for the Ferrari image. This isn't a Model Y, they can design around the skateboard. All this said, if we ignore the manufacturer I don't hate it.
I worked for the Jag for too long and now something's wrong with my brain re: british cars, but right now it's mixing into what was already wrong with my brain and mutating into something worse.
Anyway the build currently tickling my brain is taking some sort of Land Rover Discovery or other cheap Land Rover of similar shape and purpose, setting it up with the roof rack/bullbar/big tire look that I need for slamming into a deer on a gravel road at medium speeds, and then swapping in a mechanical Cummins diesel (+ a manual transmission) that's configured to run biodiesel. So like a 4B(ta? tbd) with big injectors.
The Brian Scotto Discovery R2.8 Cummins swap got into my brain a good while back but obviously the R2.8 isn't full mechanical, and therefore I can't run filtered cooking oil through it like I could on a slightly modified 4B.
Enter This Guy, who gives a fairly granular walkthrough of what it takes to get all of this working in a Discovery. One of his biggest problems is routing the turbo plumbing for the 4BTA turbo, which nonturbo applications (cooking oil) would fix, but presents a separate challenge with the 53HP that an NA 4B provides. It's also just a much more involved swap than what most muscle car engine swaps present, and heck, even the HRW 911 seems to be less involved overall.
At the end of the day I do not need a truck. I don't even live on gravel and dirt roads anymore. But even yet the horrible british SUV calls to me. In any case the better option for me is an IDI diesel F150 but you see that's no fun. We shall be revisiting this concept.
âIn a surprise twist the CEO of Mazda said the Miata will not be going electricâ yeah itâs a surprise if youâre stupid or know nothing about cars.
The magma GT is a little bland but Iâm so lukewarm about supercars these days that I donât even care to break down what it should look like instead. Itâs neat. Itâs fine. The Ferrari F80 is uglier but at least it looks like the prototype LMP cars.

I donât disagree with most of that post but the fact that it lumps mid tier American muscle cars into the âconservativeâ section next to squatted trucks is telling that theyâre not in touch with cars enough to accurately grade their owners.
Which isnât to say that aggressively conservative drivers donât lean towards the projection of power and nostalgia that is a modern muscle car, but that half the cars they listed are notable for being stereotyped as cars driven by distinctly nonwhite demographics that conservatives of the squatted truck flavor dislike.
Those people also drive like idiots but thatâs not because of their race or political stances. Itâs because theyâre usually young people with fast cars who drive as irresponsibly as you can expect, which is where the muscle car demographics generally fall! You donât see this as much with Corvettes because you canât afford one of those at 18-22 years of age, no matter how predatory the loan.
Starting to warm up to the new Testarossa slowly
Saw a guy online talking about Chinese 12v and 4bts and he was like âtheyâre made by this âdongfengâ companyâ as if it wasnât one of Chinaâs big 4 domestics.
Gotta trot out my semi monthly âthis moron doesnât know about aerodynamicsâ bit. This one is trying to link auto homogenization to 15 minute cities and the decline of the American family.
âCars arenât fun colors anymoreâ is in my opinion a legitimate problem, but itâs spurred by a combination of insurance company nonsense and consumer demand as people want more conservative color schemes/think bright colors damage resale value. The car is no longer a toy you replace every 3 years for the next best model, they last past 100k miles now.
But the baseline of what these people donât understand is that even without emissions laws and vehicle regulation, unless gasoline rapidly becomes completely free, people are going to want a car that gets more than 10mpg and this requires you to obey aerodynamics the same way every fish in the ocean has adopted a shape that lets it move through the water.

all lanes shut down on the Beltway this morning as a multi-car crash ensued after two box vans collided and were annihilated, emitting two small coupes traveling in opposite directions
driving my Miata down the freeway when I am absorbed by a semitruck merging into the slow lane he emits me later as he speeds up after his exit but now I'm going the wrong direction
this post is about deliberate loss of rear traction in a motor vehicle hope this helps
