              His feet remained planted in the soil, his eyes staring nervously at his partner.  His lips were set in a line, hands balled in fists beside his pockets.  Sweat beaded down his forehead, sparkling in the dim evening light.  Nine seemed so distant from him at that moment.  He wouldn't look at him, wouldn't look and see the fear in his eyes.                Twelve supposed that was a good thing.  He would hate to seem like a emotional mess.  He was usually so joking, so confused.  But with everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours, he felt that Nine wouldn't blame him too harshly.                 The sound of helicopters overtook his thinking.  Looking up and agreeing with Nine's verbal note ---  American military -- he wondered their probable cause for being there.  Had the Americans really decided to aid Japan against two teenage terrorists?  But he supposed that was America's favorite task, fighting terrorism.  If that's what their cause really was.

                  The way the helicopters were circling made his hands even clammier.  Worry burned through his stomach, a knot forming.  He turned his attention back to Nine, silently hoping the other would make eye-contact.  He watched the other announce his plan -- their bomb plan.  It was all so surreal.  Though the experience was.  But nothing in his life was normal.                    There was a sudden black to his vision.  Twelve blinked once, trying to clear his vision.  But Nine, tall and determined, didn't return to his sight.  His ears processed the noise after his vision failed him.  A gun shot?  But where?  He couldn't see.  Twelve felt his body stagger forward, as if it were no longer his own.  Pain ripped through him, like a burning sensation starting at the middle of his spine, and engulfing his body in flames at both ends.  But then the feeling was gone.                      He heard a loud thud over the sound of the helicopters above.  Something touched his cheek, his chest -- had he fallen?  What was happening?                      A terrifying, guttural noise spurted through the air above him.  But he couldn't comprehend where, why, who -- he couldn't even begin to think of what directions were.  His mind faded quickly.
