#i say this every time i go over a month without posting

the ai in fic discourse is continuing on twitter and people are brainstorming all the reasons people might use it/not disclose its use and theorizing that people hope to one day file off the serial numbers for a book deal etc etc. i’m sure that’s even true in some cases and definitely seems to be true for that big h/ated rivalry account that got exposed by the html code detector based on these allegations from a former beta reader:

HOWEVER i think a lot of it is just the same reasons people have always plagiarized. i (and other hrpf authors some years back) had a fic that was like <5k words completely copy and pasted with the names changed and a couple sentences reworked by an anonymous kpop stan. and the lying remains the same. that kpoppy even wrote in the a/n “english isn’t my first language teeehee” but it’s MINE! and i WROTE that story!! and that kpop fic was more successful than almost anything on my own account with many adoring comments. given the fandoms i write for obvi don’t do it for the numbers but Come On Now… Ok.

i mean at that point you’re not even really doing it for clout… there’s no username attached! so why bother! it’s really all about the sick thrill of it all and with ai it’s similar. you’re fooling people and getting away with it and people will defend you or adore you even if it’s not really You. some of these fics even have devoted discord servers. you become like a tiny god. of lies. your followers will insist you’re a victim of a witch hunt as if the reasons witch hunts were bad is because they were targeting witches who were actually practicing witchcraft. lol. plagiarists the same as they have always been… it’s just much easier to get away with it these days. sad times for fandom.

#i think the reason i keep posting about this is because it reminded me of when i found that fic plagiarizing me lol #opalapparition is the ai user discussed in the screenshots and one of the reasons this has all Precipitated #i havent seen much discussion of the situation on tumblr compared to twitter at ALL but guys it is so dire lmfoajfnsn #fic tag #recently had to unfollow a longtime mutual as well for posting ai generated deepfake kissing video of two live action characters LIKE CAN W #GET A GRIPPP THATS NOT OKAY EITHER. this is why i will always support my beautiful fanartist oomfies with my Dolars… we must persist 🫂
