I got home last night after four days in Kentucky at the beautiful Wild Turkey Distillery. To say it’s difficult to comprehend going back to reality is an understatement. My friends and family at home have seen me head off on trips like this before - boarding a plane to meet a group of strangers and coming back with this overwhelming love and trust for people I didn’t know just days before. I can’t explain how the magic happens, but it does. This industry is packed with some really solid humans who have a common respect for each other and our craft. This adventure was certainly one for the books. My ankles have finally stopped swelling from the slanted bed I woke up hanging off of in the tent and roasting in each morning. My cheeks and abs have stopped aching after playing silly card games while being caught in a wild downpour and laughing so hard that I almost fell out of my chair. My shoulder is no longer wrenched from the recoil of the 20 gauge shotgun I used for skeet shooting. I’m no longer immediately sweating out every drop of water I consume and can actually wear pants without melting. Though all of the physical reminders of this trip are fading (except the tattoo), my heart is going to hurt a while longer knowing that I had to leave this new family of mine. To the Russells, @wildturkey, @campariamerica, @usbg, our gentlemanly mentors, all of my fellow campers, Belle the dog, everyone who fed us and brought us coffee daily, and even those bartenders who did not think what happened with our desserts on Tuesday was all that funny...
