updates, on a moody august day in the hospital library because i have the great misfortune to be covering trauma call this weekend:
-my last job taught me many things but chiefly among which was to be an advocate for myself, because in retrospect, my life depended on it
-i was harassed by a male colleague, reported it, nothing happened, it escalated to the point where i feared for my safety
-i tried to frame my resignation as career growth (which it was) but i cannot ignore that it was also from ongoing fear, intimidation, and escalation. i did not want to leave from fear only. but i would be lying if it did not play a major part
-one year later this individual was fired, arrested for multiple felonies, and is awaiting a court trial
-ultimately, ultimately: will justice be served? i doubt the legal system, particularly in this current societal and political climate. i can be highly qualified but the powers that be did not protect me, but protected the dangerous man; i can find comfort in the fact that i saved countless future people, particularly the vulnerable, from being harmed by this man.
on a brighter note,
-fulfilled my onboarding at my new job in no time at all, held down a notoriously difficult shift, and got a leadership role in less than 6 months
-recruited a group of people to work the most difficult-to-staff shift, created a new work culture, and made a great team atmosphere in the late night hours
-performed amazingly well under pressure during a terrible situation and was recognized by the directors of surgery and trauma surgery
-additionally oversee G’s service line (orthopedic surgery, ortho trauma, ortho spine) like i have nothing else to do 😂
-finally found my way to cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgery ❤️
