Cid Highwind: Actively dating Vincent Valentine, potentially engaged to him as well depending on when you prompt the thread to be at. Retired war pilot, but not from anything fucking else. Co-Caretaker of Yuffie, alongside Vincent. Bisexual biromantic ( and in some cases, polyamorous ).
Yuffie Kisaragi: By default, 21-22 years old ( but willing to play younger years for canon threads ). A lot less impulsive ... at least in overt ways. Some of what she does may be recognized by other Turks, as they're little baby versions of what they're taught to do ( but they don't know that Vincent's still fucking around ). Ragebaiter supreme: the woman. Believes she's aroace, is actually just demi-everything ( save her ).
Ardyn Izunia: not the white man /ref. Coded to be more Coastal Greece, central Italy, and Mediterranean, rather than just ... whatever FFXV has going on with him. Is not the laughing evilly in front of the heroes sort of villain, and never will be. Not intended to be watered down, but can be civil and friendly ( clearly, look at the game ). He sucks, deal with it.
Lumina: lmao. the only thing that changes here is that she's wlw, but it's always ever toxic yuri with her. only someone as horrendous as her would earn maybe gentler things. maybe. unlikely.
Snow Villiers: he body too got dam smal for he got dam love. Doesn't realize not a lot of men find other men absolutely gorgeous. You want to kiss him so bad it makes you look stupid. Very physically affectionate, beware your bones when he bear hugs you. Him and Fang have pseudo sibling roughhousing constantly - they have not figured out who is 'older' in this dynamic.
Noel Kreiss: would be pan-poly if his 9-5 wasn't kicking his ass. Nervous dog-thing. Loosely headcanon'd in the KH settings to be Sora's distant relative ( whereas I headcanon Noctis Caelum as Sora's older half-brother & Noel's same level of distant relative ). He's busy, though it's hit or miss if that busy is managing a panic attack or disassociating. Misses his wife, Tails.
Prompto Argentum: nothing truly drastic has changed. (looks at the confusion prompto feels about if he wants to kiss or knock out the others around him) nothing truly drastic has changed-

The quip of knowing that Cid could behave himself was right there, and truly tempting. There were however some people with enhanced hearing nearby. Best not to play with those cards shown. Truly the best he could do was turn enough to give Cid a truly incredulous raised brow that spoke volumes for the amount of 'civil and polite' he though the engineer could or could not get up to.
This left Cid ample room to pull him down into range. Eyes closing to remember the sensation. His leather clad hand coming up to take hold of just a few fingers worth of fabric of the arm holding him in place.
"Yes. To here I will return."
"Ya spoil me, Vin'." the comment sounds like a tease, but it isn't. vincent and himself both spoil each other, just in ways that others don't notice. their era had different ways of showing just how deeply you cared for someone. it wasn't just gifts and dates and explosive reactions of showcasing love... for him and vincent, the older days continue to have their way with their 'dancing' with each other.
cid highwind lets his hand get partially held by his Heart for a few seconds longer than he used to, watching vincent's expression with a softer look than the others are used to seeing on the old man's face. but after those lingering moments, he pulls his hand back and moves to continue walking to greet the 'guests' that will undoubtedly tease the stripe of red on his hand to match the blue on vincent's. "Lemme know if I gotta drag ya out!" now that's a tease.
A contemplative hum meets the answer given. He hardly needed thanks for bringing something belonging to Cid. Especially not the man's own tea. There were people visiting, friends, he'd not impose on good company. That was better distraction from work for the Highwind anyway.
Him next? No thank you.
That got a huff out of the ex-Turk his easy stance next to Cid abandoned for a swift about face, cloak flaring.
"No. There was a call about odd fiends close to here. I shouldn't be long." He pauses long enough to let his eyes glimmer a hidden smirk at Cid. "Enjoy your company."
"Y─ heheh- yer leavin' me ta be civil 'n polite?!" it's a taunt, as evident by the chuckle at the start of the commentary to the ex-Turk. he turns to face him as the man's leaving his workspace, grinning in that crooked highwind-patented way but not really stopping him. "Thought ya liked me, Vinnie!"
still, he does stand up, careful to not spill his tea or mess with his stacks of papers that he'd been tampering with. "Ah, 'fore ya go, Vin'─" quick but steady gait carries him next to vincent, gently using his free hand to pull him down slightly- a quick peck on the cheek under the collar before leaving the room. "Don't be a stranger!"
The tell tale shift of fabric and metal is more than Cid needs. Especially with a delicately offered out tea cup cradled carefully by terrible golden claws.
"Lively today. You forgot this in the other room." Comes the usual deadpan gravel of the local gunslinger. His unimpressed demeanor already spoken loud and clear with the other arm already crossed and resting on his bicep, tapping cadence. A blue band protected under black leather glove.
"Ah, shit, yeah, f'rgot I made it..." is the answer that meets the cup of tea held out to him. he barely has to process the offer, knowing that his Heart ( quite the romantic, poetic joke about the ex-Turk's surname ) would make something that is 50/50 chance to put him to sleep in 30 minutes or make him stop working long enough to unwind overnight. or maybe vincent would be nice and let him work, with supervision. "Thanks, Vin'."
he goes to take a sip of it, doing so as vincent's comment prior to the awareness of his misplacement of his own tea. though, honestly, he's unsure if it was remade or not, traded out or not. and you know, it doesn't matter. he sits back in his chair anyway. "Fuckin' - when ain't it lively?" a derisive snort meets the statement, his exhale after a second sip of his tea sounding a bit more like a breathing out of cigarette smoke. "Kids jus' now noticed m' band. They're gettin' onta me, so yer probably next."
little fun tidbit for those who wanna write with cid post-officially dating vincent: after about two years ( & in the kh verse, a year prior to the fall of gaia ), cid and vincent start wearing an oddly simple, sleek band - in colors of the other person. cid wears a bright red band on his left ring finger, and vincent wears a sky blue band on his non-mechanical hand.
those with less social awareness would maybe see it as a friendship thing, but. no, those are their reinforced engagement rings, courtesy of cid highwind himself. in the kh verse, people are welcome to point it out and ask, especially if they're not from AVALANCHE ( who would know what they are ). make the local dreamer wax poetic about his fiance. plz.
some of my hcs / canon adjustments for yuffie
because i keep doing shit that's louder canon things
while i adore a slightly aged up character to make it make sense for the timeline of events that happened, don't worry i've got you: my interpretation of yuffie is by default five years after the main game. so she's 21, going on 22.
in the kh-verse that is connected with my cid ( here ) and my vincent ( discord ), she is actually anywhere from 25-28. but that's for another headcanon / canon adjustment.
yuffie is legally vincent's ward. in our canon, the trip to wutai was met with yuffie's biological father requesting to speak with 'the ones who look after his daughter' - hence vincent, who then requested the moral support of the Dreamer. after a talk for a few hours, and some promises that yuffie herself doesn't get to know, vincent was 'legally' made yuffie's caretaker. under cid highwind's name, yes, but yuffie's bio dad Knew what was happening there and just let it be. ( he had a feeling that vincent hardly goes anywhere without cid, so. )
yuffie's main materia ( in most settings / threads ) is HP Plus, Steal, and Sense. however, she doesn't know a lot about how they work together, so cid and vincent tend to help her outfit her new items and weapons as they go along. those are her dads. they don't get a choice in the matter. stop running.
yuffie has ADHD-GAD comorbidity, intense/severe athazagoraphobia ( being forgotten ), dyscalculia ( vincent and cid already know this, and it's likely the others have suspicions ), night terrors, and summer-pattern seasonal affective disorder. if she doesn't look at the borderline personality disorder that ( my ) cloud peer reviewed her with, it can't hurt her.
in kh-verses, yuffie is by default the first of the ff7 crew to show up on traverse town ( and in the worlds at all ) after cid was already getting settled there. she showed up six months after cid arrived. after her, it was aerith, then tifa, within a few days of each other some weeks later.
this is optional but i would die for you. yuffie misses romantic cues a lot. she thinks she's aroace, but she's never been around people that she's not considered just friends, family, or role models ( non-romantic ). however, in the kingdom hearts setting, i have this delightful crackship / crossover ship that has haunted me for a thousand years: squall & yuffie.
my personal take is that squall has been actually courting her, in the right way, but yuffie can't read the room. cid has given him space to try to be heavy handed after two years of yuffie being BLIND AS HELL, having been in the same predicament with vincent, ages ago. squall and cid get along, this way.

some fairly consistent cid hcs / canon adjustments
because some of their decisions don't make sense to me
my cid is not in his damn 30s. that is a, at MINIMUM, 46 year old man. as such, i play him - at default - 52, post-ff7 ( i'm playing through the remakes, so i'll see what else changes, but i've already stumbled into stuff with yuffie so i'm afraid ).
cid, as implied in canon, is a genius. with that, his personality can come across as abrasive, arrogant, and dickish. truthfully, it's the fact that he genuinely thinks other people see what he sees, and the same with what he knows and understands. he's usually amenable to someone saying that they're not following and adjust, but until that point, he thinks he's being understood.
i run primarily off of the original ff7 lore ( including before crisis, dirge of cerberus, and advent children ) until i finish the remakes and alter from there. as such, if i reference something from a point in the game you're unaware of, or that sounds different from the original scene, you're free to ask me what he's fucking talking about.
by default, my cid highwind is actually dating his vincent valentine. the time at which they started being official is undetermined, as neither of them act too different around the others - outside of maybe holding hands more often and being in bed together in the mornings more often ( yuffie insists it was obvious when they hooked up, though she never clarifies ). however, i always love seeing how other interpretations of characters interact with cid, so if you want to set it back to before then, that's fine. ( most of this development is with a specific vincent, that my best friend of 10 years has got going on with me. so don't worry about asking to not do so. )
in terms of kh-verses: gaia has fallen by the time of kh1, where sora meets cid and the others for the first time. cid does not mention it to the confused new keyblader, but he's been off gaia for a little over 4 years by the time this is happening, and has since befriended chip & dale to help with mechanical pursuits. he is also quietly looking for traces of vincent in the cosmos, unwilling to believe he's gone.
