How To Enjoy a Delicious Bowl of Fruit Salad (the scientific and culinary merits of eating healthy)
This post was inspired by my fellow fruit salad enthusiast @maraskolnikova, and nutritional observer @isitandwonder. Remember darlingβ¦a fruit salad a day keeps the sexual frustrations awayβ¦.
I come from a place where itβs always sunny, and tropical fruits are in abundance. So of course, a delicious bowl of mixed fruits lightly tossed with your dressing of choice is a daily indulgence.
So, in order to be able to fully enjoy a daily bowlful of delicious chopped tropical fruits, tossed, squished and mixed together in thick, creamy dressingβ¦one must first exert some physical energy in order to build oneβs appetite. The best way to do this of course, is to climb a coconut tree π΄π₯₯
As you can see, climbing a coconut tree is NOT as easy as it looks. You need strong core muscles to be able to hoist yourself up that tall tree, strong arm muscles to make sure youβre clinging on for dear lifeβ¦and last but not least, strong inner thigh muscles so you can wrap you legs around that thick trunk, enough to ensure that you donβt fall off whilst gyrating and shimmying up and down that tree.
Once youβve built up sufficient sweat, itβs time to chow down. Making a bowl of fruit salad is mostly just preferenceβ¦whatever fruits are your favoritesβ¦use them. Hereβs a recipe for one of my go-to, must-have, daily dose of vitamins and nutritional goodness.
BANANAS π - use the ones that are ripe, but still firm, so itβs already sweet enough to eat but can withstand some rough handling. Choose the size of the banana to fit your appetite, but any unused ones that have been peeled and chopped may be stored in the freezer for later use to make a banana smoothie
PEACHES π - this particular fruit is soft, juicy and sweet, so handle with careβ¦you donβt want to end up with juice running all over the place, itβs a sticky mess that youβll likely have to lick your way out of. Again, you wanna go with the βripe but still firmβ motto, any squishiness and youβre just as likely to end up with more juice than meat
MELONS π - I luuuuuuurve melonsβ¦watermelons, rock melons, cantaloupes, honeydew melons just to name a few. Itβs so luscious, more juicy than the peachβ¦with just the right amount of sweetness (depends on the type) to make your mouth water. Since melons are generally larger thanβ¦say, peachesβ¦you can really get your moneyβs worth out of a single melon than that of a peach
MANGOES - itβs the king of all tropical fruits, highly seasonal, and comes in all shapes and sizes. For those who are not fortunate enough to live in a tropical countryβ¦I would guess putting your hand on one of these babies might come at a high price. But if you do somehow manage to grab one for yourselfβ¦youβre surely in for an epic treat. Sadly, as you can seeβ¦today Iβm out of mangoes so unfortunately, we wonβt be using those
CHERRIES π - such precious little gems, I love them. I love how you can practically put the whole fruit in your mouthβ¦heck, you can even put two in your mouth without any problem at all. Hence, you tend to be greedy and just want more and more. Juicy and red, staining your lips as you suck down on these pretty little morselsβ¦toss 1-2 handfuls (sans pit) in the bowl and youβve reached fruit salad perfection
DRESSING - again, itβs mostly preference. Some just like to toss the fruits lightly with plain yoghurt with a light dash of lemon juiceβ¦some want to add a little sweetness and stickiness to the mix by adding honeyβ¦go wild, be creativeβ¦just make sure the dressing doesnβt overwhelm the flavors of the fruits
Chop the fruits and toss everything together with the dressing and voilaβ¦a bowl of heavenly fruit saladβ¦to be consumed straight away at the peak of its sweetness and juicinessβ¦where all the fruits are perfectly melded together but still retaining their individual flavors, creating a symphony of taste in your mouth that will have you panting for more
