Miami’s beloved folk duo Dracula released their highly anticipated debut LP on April 19th, quickly gaining a slew of new fans in music stratosphere, and landing them a top spot in NPR’s New Latin Music Favorites. Their signature style of delicate melodies and harmonized vocals speaks to a deeply emotional level, to a wide audience, …

Gentle strings clash with the ebbing of a haunting vocal harmony in “Descripción.” Melodies that are as delicate as spun glass are woven into a spellbinding web that will prove impossible for us to escape in “Como La Flor.” Brooding lyricism is only one gripping element that we’ll discover in the painfully poignant serenade of …
"Dorys & Eli” review in Vents Magazine:
Dorys & Eli is a deeply engaging listen that doesn’t ask a lot from us in exchange for a treasure chest of evocative tones, rich textures and unforgettable melodies that will leave you wondering where this chilling band has been hiding all this time. There’s a few rough edges that could stand to be sanded down a little in future efforts, but by and large, I don’t know that you’re going to hear another acoustic-oriented album this spring that has as much soul and sublime emotion as this one does, and I say that knowing full-well just how many great LPs are due for release this month. Keep a close eye on Dracula as they move forward – I know that I definitely will.
Too Much Love in love with Dracula:
Their act has become notorious in South Florida music circles: simple and stylish, their live performance usually involves kneeling in front of each other in a palpably intimate sonic embrace, their rich but gentle vocals and accompanying guitar rarely leaving a dry eye in the house. Performing covers, tributes or interpretations of artists they admire, their repertoire includes songs in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Japanese. You need not understand or be familiar with the songs to experience a profound sense of nostalgia at their renditions as if each track were a song your mother used to sing you to sleep with, and you somehow forgot. While technically “stripped down”, usually performing with only an acoustic guitar, the intricacies of their musicianship are stark. Their sinuous harmonies performing delicate acrobatics for the ear.

Incredibly grateful for another feature for Dracula in Alt.Latino’s weekly roundup!
Back in October, we featured Miami folk duo Dracula's first official single, a dreamy, mournful cover of Selena's "Como La Flor." On Friday, the duo released its first album, Dorys & Eli, 13 songs in English, Spanish and one in Japanese. Of all their adaptations of folk songs from across the English- and Spanish-speaking worlds, their rendition of the old Cuban trova ballad "Veinte Años" is one of my favorites. Every Cuban family loves this song.
Dracula remembers being invited to play at a nursing home once. The facilitators thought their renditions of these old songs might comfort some of their Alzheimer's and dementia patients. Dorys and Eli remember hesitating over this song, since it's about love that deteriorates over twenty years. "Si las cosas que uno quiere / se pudieran alcanzar / tú me quisieras lo mismo / que veinte años atrás," the song goes. The pair's version in particular swells and lingers with their joint harmonies over Eli's nylon guitar, making the already evocative song particularly compelling. Needless to say, they didn't play it.

Mexico City’s WARP Magazine reviews “Dorys & Eli” 🖤
When Dorys Bello and Eli Oviedo started making music together, they never imagined a vinyl record of their recordings would be released, but today marks the release of their debut LP Dorys & Eli. They became friends over music when they were both 19 and later spontaneously stumbled across their musical chemistry at 23 years …

In-depth interview w/ Ale from Las Nubes!
On this week's Alt.Latino playlist, hear Las Nubes reiterate its post-punk femininity, Twanguero return to philosophical roots and VINILOVERSUS duet with Tessa Ia in what feels like hazy nostalgia.
Las Nubes “QSW” featured on NPR Alt.Latino’s songs of the week!
Two thirds of Las Nubes haven been behind the counter at Miami music institution Sweat Records for years. Born as Ale Campos' solo project SMVT (when her music was far heavier and doomier), Las Nubes is a fuzzy, feminist post-punk iteration of her roots in Miami hardcore. Now that the store has started its own label, the band is releasing its debut album, affectionately SMVT soon. The second single (after the great "Hellbag") off the bilingual album is in Spanish, and asks the question QSW, "¿Qué significa whack?"
For the video, the band asked friends, family and fans to send them clips that made them feel saudade, including one of a family of women singing ABBA's "Fernando." The intimacy of the lyrics, the fuzz, and the visuals contribute to the song's overwhelming atmosphere of being invited home. — Stefanie Fernández
