aka "some cool trans women got airtime in 1973 to tell their own stories, and I sure have feelings about it"
anything that contains the phraseĀ āsecret BBC memo revealsā intrigues me automatically ngl but I want you all to know that as far as I can gather, the facts are even better than this headline
which is to say, this was part of an initiative in the early 1970s that not only featured marginalized groups on BBC programming, but made moves towards handing them editorial controlĀ ā the BBC had to approve proposals, but after that, the stationās role was primarily to provide technical resources, facilities, and copyright handling. (another notable program under this initiative featured Black teachers discussing racism in the school system, and a link to that ā plus discussion of the hurdles it faced ā can be found here).
the program on trans experience was aired in 1973.
The programme, featuring trans women, began: āJokes about āthe operationā are all that most people know about transexualism [sic]. Tonightās group discuss their situation in a more serious and comprehensive way, and draw attention to the many difficulties they endureā.
you can watch Open Door: Transex Liberation Group hereĀ (as well as other archived LGBTQ programming from BBC).Ā

Thank you!!! Iām glad that my additions are welcome /o/
I wonder how many gay people are actually transgender & dont know it because people thing being transgender is transitioning when itās literally just not being cis.
like I had a friend tell me last night āall my life I wanted to be a girl. even to this day, like if someone told me I could transition & look like you or *insert another trans woman idk* I would do it in a heartbeatā and when I was like omg ur transgender he was surprised? like he was like wait just wanting to be a girl makes me transgender even if I dont do anything about it? and like its harder to pinpoint non binary people but if u have a desire be a different gender ur transgender. transitioning is a choice but being transgender is not.
āOne of the symptoms of being a girl is wanting to be a girl.ā Donāt remember where I heard that but the quote is my life.
The day I realized I was Nonbinary was wild because I simply said, āI used to pray not to get boobsā and my friend went, āgirls donāt usually pray to NOT get boobsā
Then I sort of went on a short spiral because how could I have not realized that?!

So there's this guy on one of the craft groups I follow...
His name is Sam. And he knits jumpers
And then takes photosĀ
Of himself in front of the things that inspired them
And he just makes me so happy
Because he has such great talent
And he is everything I want to be in life
You go, Sam. You live your dreams
thank uĀ
A+ quality blog content.Ā
A perfect human.
TWO shark sweaters
This is like, double art.
Iām a pretty experienced knitter and even one of these sweaters is an impressive accomplishment. Iām kind of flabbergasted right now. Sam is killing it.
the level of skill, and then the photos themselves in which Sam is wearing a jumper that goes with the theme of the photo?! 10/10
Sam nails life 24/7
H o w
Always reblog Sam
The skeleton dance is a sacred Tibetan dance ritual, from Himalayan Buddhist traditions. It reflects how everything is transitory including oneās body. The monk pictured in the above photo seems to be performing the dance known as Durdak Garcham, or āDance of the Lords of the Cemetery.ā Durdak Garcham celebrates the liberation that comes from acceptance of our impermanence.
Taken in 1925, these photographs were published in National Geographic in its November 1928 issue.
this is arcane knowledge that the human mind cant comprehend
honestly what the fuck does this mean
āDonāt stress yourselves out about it, but donāt ignore the situationā
GOOD ADVICE

Theory: Nobody who writes a physics textbook gives any fucks
Evidence:
Update: Legolasā pupils are about 3.5Ā cm wide each. Now drawing kawaii Legolas on physics assignment.
And they told you science was no fun.
Science!
Iām going to do it. Iām going to hand it in.
Legolasās pupil size isnāt the problem here, though. 5 leagues is 17.262 miles. The curvature of the Earth means that for a person of average height, the visual horizon is less than three miles away. Even if your vision is telescopic and the atmosphere is perfectly clear, you canāt see around the planet. If they were standing on a hill, it would have to be at LEAST 198 feet above sea level in order to see the horizon at 17.2 miles away, with nothing tall in between. Which, knowing Rohan, isnāt impossible.
But consider: Elven satellite eyeballs.
you mean like
@sidereanuncia itās back, the post that I can only imagine haunts your nightmaresĀ
I shall never find peace.
Also, for what itās worth, thereās absolutely no reason to believe that the curvature of Middle Earth is the same as that of Earth.
Thereās no evidence that Middle Earth curves.
Yeah there is. Ā The Silmarillion states that the world was curved after the fall of Numenor (I believe), preventing access to Valinor. Ā But Elves (among others) can travel the straight path across it.
So middle earth is round, but not for Elves because magic.
So wait, the reason he can see that far is because Elves just have the ability to ignore the curve of the earth? Thatās awesome. It also means that no matter how good your optics got, you would always want elf eyes manning the spyglass because they can see arbitrarily far while everybody else is limited by thisĀ āhorizonā bullshit.
Oh thank God, my poor elf prince has seen too much in this post
Elves are flat-earthers
This post went from amusing to horrifying, to be brought back down to amusing, sprinkled in with some cannon explanation, and then you leave me here in fucking outrage
This post really was a rollercoaster.
for elves it was a straight line
Hello everybody this is an appreciation post for azure jays
Look at this big olā richly-colored corvid
Look at him trying to eat a hugelarge seed, too large
Oh nevermind! He found a freaking donut instead
This one looks like itās really interested in your conversation
And this one is very round :0
Here are some with friends! Borbs of a feather birbing together!
Theyāre pretty much like crows but like, blue?? Hello? What else do you need??
They know how to use tools and everything, they like to play with objects, theyāre such inteligent friends!
What a goddamn beauty of a birb. 10/10 best boys I love azure jays so much
Hat tip to @mugwomps , what a shiny friend!
āPet crows give their owners names. This is identified by a unique sound they make around specific people that they would not otherwise make.ā
oh my GOD
well shit
Clearly, to the crows, weāre the pets.
āBetween 1970 and 2000, the number of private jets worldwide multiplied by ten times over. These luxury planes emit six times more carbon per passenger than normal commercial jets. Private yachts that stretch the length of football fields burn more than 200 gallons of fossil fuel per hour. The top-earning 1 percent of households, one Canadian study has found, generate three times more greenhouse gas emissions than average households ā and twice as much as the next 4 percent. Those in the global 1 percent, Oxfam calculates, may well be stomping a carbon footprint 175 times deeper than the poorest 10 percent. Another analysis concludes that the richest 1 percent of Americans, Singaporeans, and Saudis on average emit over 200 tons of carbon dioxide per person per year, ā2,000 times more than the poorest in Honduras, Rwanda, or Malawi.ā Our global environmental crisis would not, of course, suddenly melt away if the worldās most affluent suddenly ended their profligate consumption. But the wealthy pose our single biggest obstacle to environmental progress.ā

China Loves Venom.
I donāt just mean that itās chinese box office figures are great. They are, but the audience is also emotionally thirsty for venom. Heās the new number one dream boyfriend. All the chinese articles Iāve read keep talking about his ē·åå, his boyfriend power level(ie how good a SO is) and how its off the charts. How even people who arenāt into superheroes and are just along for the ride will be charmed at this romantic dreamboat. How adorable and lovable and cute and charming he is. How heās become a å½ę°ē·å, a National Boyfriend, ie, someone the whole country wants to date because theyāre such a Ideal BF. That Women Love Venom is accepted fact. The top three things articles in Chinese keep mentioning about the film are a)the box office success, b)how popular venom is With The Ladies in the audience and how heās an Ideal Boyfriend, and how Venom and Eddie have Incredible Chemistry and c)blah blah cast plot trailer reactions blah. Iām so proud of the goo, yāall, heās such a good boyfriend to Eddie that heās made himself a Publically Recognised Dreamboat.
And this reaction wasnāt exactly unanticipated. Official promo images included art of Venom being a great BF in this vein:
Yes. Thatās been on the official Weibo (chinese Twitter) account.
The little stamp says Venom: Caring Protector (the film is released in China as Venom: lethal protector so its a play on that). The term ęē· is a particular archetype of caring and emotionally available man. A sweet softboy, if you will.
Highlights from articles include:
V keeps being called a åæ ē¬, a āloyal dogā love interest archetype who is loyal and self sacrificing and values his SO above all else. Kind of like the Service in Service Top.
he gets called č ¢č and 蓱č, which respectivekey are cute because heās a dumbass and cute because heās a dick
One article talks about how you expect a monster but you get a beautiful creature with beautiful perfect teeth. Ok???? Horny much????
Insisting heās lovable because heās Sensitive and Emotionally Intelligent, and know What Women Want, as shown by the scene where he coaches Eddie through his convo with Anne in the car
These arenāt from fanblogs by they way theyāre from movie and entertainment sites and are Articles.
thereās this one userās review on the biggest chinese movie review site that talks about how Venom is so sexy it makes them tremble. Iāve seen it quoted like four times.
Admittedly Iām biased but I just finished reading a Chinese think piece on Why Venom Is The Sexiest Villain so excuse me if Iām too enthusiastic. FYI reasons include:
heās played by Tom hardy who is Sexy. (Hardyās Chinese fan nickname is 걤č湿, which sounds like tom+sensei, but written as Tom+always wetā¦Chinese people are horny for Tom hardy.)
Because heās got that contrast of sharp and lethal on the outside and soft and tender on the inside
And my favourite: because he is Socially Responsible and Does The Right Thing and is a Good Boy for Saving The Earth And Mrs Chen The Shopkeeper. This writer is so horny for V???? Iām screaming.
Chinese Venomfuckers Iām so proud of you all.
