A few days later, I present my first log.  Important: Every asset, sprites and tilesets alike are going to be replaced with customized assets. The current appearance is merely a placeholder. Things are very subject to change right now.

The beginning has changed from before - Kem’s more clearly involved in telling the “urban legend” at the begnning, and he drops you off at the village for a brief interaction with some villagers. There, you meet Static...And eventually make your way to the mansion.

I’m going to restart my work on Swamp Surgeon as of 7/25/2019. However, this means I’m going to do it entirely all over. A lot of what I want to happen has changed, since it was originally rushed for a PixelHorror Jam, when I only had so long to make it. Now I can think about what I want to do, and take my time.

So here’s what I’m doing. I’ll start by making the game entirely with RTP, and then later, I will fix it up with custom assets. This will speed up production I feel, and then I can focus later on assets I can keep. (Because if I draw everythng now I WILL want to change it..)

Short answer: no, it’s just still on hiatus.

I know I’m posting a lot today, but I actually am gonna be having all four of my wisdom teeth out on thursday, so I won’t be able to work on Swamp Surgeon much. So I figured I’d show some things now.

The music i used for the “trailer” video and also music that will be found in the game at certain points. It’s also a variation of the “Panda Pearl” theme.

Presenting...The updated references! Some things to note about these new designs, particularly rennird’s -

Runi’s outfit was changed (for the time being) because I realized that being poor, she couldn’t afford a fancy dress like the one she had. So, she gets that dress later in the game. The hair was just a cute change.

The professor looks a lot different, but I assure you it’s not actually that drastic a change because this is only one of his appearances. The previous design and other designs will make appearances too!

Then there’s Static, who...really I just cut her hair and gave her an octopus clip akjsnf

okay so this isn't much of a trailer, I mostly was messing around and made this video, but hey. Why not. There's no assets or gameplay in this so-called “trailer” as I have none updated for the new run, but if I do future, actual proper trailers I'll of course add those. Music composed by me.

i know i just made an update, but heres another - and this ones pretty important.

For those of you not aware - Swamp Surgeon is sort of a prequel to a comic of mine called Panda Pearl. Some massive changes have been made to Panda Pearl, and will thus have an effect on the plot of Swamp Surgeon. So! here we go...

The changes.

First off, you’ll be seeing updated references/designs of the Professor, Static 003, and Runi. Possibly the others too. Their personalities and backstories remain, but as an example, I’m giving Runi some different hair and a new dress, and Static’s clothes will be updated. And I’m not entirely what I’ll be doing with the Professor - he may just get a new haircut or something.

Next - I’m not sure about this yet, but for plot flow reasons, I may make the Professor the playable character. This is kind of in the air right now, I’m going t ohave to play around with my script a lot more and I’ll let you guys know. That said, Runi isn’t any less crucial to the game - we might just have less time seeing it from her perspective. We’ll see.

Besides making new tilesets/sprites, there’s one thing I want to make clear now. I was going to hold back due to the limitations of the pixel horror jam rules, but as there’s less pressure on that, there will be a lot of gore in the game. I intend to try and give the player an option at the start whether they want to have those shots...conveniently censored, you know, or if they’re just gonna go through. But this is something to be aware of regardless. One of the characters also has an...ability of sorts, and it may be seen as suggestive, but I don’t intend to linger on that factor for reasons related to my own comfort. The gore is more something to be known, even if you can opt out of it.
