Hello! Was wondering if you know what type of shoe/boots (calf boot and in some dramas have a curve at the top) men and women wore in Wuxia Drama’s? Where they a real shoe or for aesthetic purposes?
Hi, thanks for the question! The boots you see men and women wearing in wuxia dramas are real traditional footwear called xue/靴 (aka xuezi/靴子). Some xue have curved toes, some don’t. Curved toes are a common feature of traditional Chinese footwear. Historically xue were mostly made of leather (x), while the soles were made of leather, fabric, or wood (x). Nowadays many are made of fabric, with rubber or synthetic soles. You can check out my boots and shoes tags for more information. Hope this helps!
Below - reproductions of xue boots worn in Cdrama The Untamed, found on Taobao:

Hairstyle of Chinese women in Song dynasty.
The pictures of Song Dynasty women’s hairstyles are accurate and refer to ancient portraits, ancient tomb murals, and colorful ancient sculptures inside the Jinci Temple in Shanxi, which was built in the Western Zhou Dynasty( 1046B.C.- 771B.C.) and used by Chinese emperors in various dynasties as a place of worship.
