look at my beautiful dog

#i woke up to a text this morning thats just left me feeling rattled and i havent been able to shake it #my plans for the day shifted i knew i needed to get outside and move and breathe and completely disconnect #the drive was quiet the sun shining brightly a beautiful breeze in the air a happy dog in my backseat 90s pop drifting from the speakers #trailhead: empty and i was so incredible grateful for it as i parked and we made our way down into the trees #i focused on the sounds of the birds overhead the feeling of the wind tousling my hair the precious mushrooms dotting the trees #rushing water in the distance quickened our pace i could feel my hips loosen the further out we made it crossing the first bog bridges #he hopped in bathed in green as i crossed over to the other side a small frog jumped into the water below #the forest felt weirdly still yet alive the smell of pine greeting me the higher we climbed towards the pond loop #we took our time walking along i scanned the floor for any late lady slippers watching the ferns sway chipmunks scurrying into logs #at the first small opening sunlight glittered on the surface the sky clear a small frog resting in the water tadpoles scurrying below #this pond is so clear you can always see below to the sand and stones today pollen dotted the surface #we carried on following the trail around the beds climbing the granite slabs and ledges to the top to look out over everything tree high #it was still and peaceful up there i felt so small and tucked away in the world far from people far from my own life #my mind wandered as we headed to the small beach usually the fresh air & movement are game changers in my mood or things im ruminating over #but i couldnt stop the thought cycle the further i moved the more caught i found myself i tapped on my inner wrists and up by my temples #i pulled my shirt over my head as i walked down the hill towards the water's edge kicking my boots/socks into a heap my elastic on my wrist #my legs crashed into the still water the coldness welcome more pollen on the surface a shiver ran down my spine as water splashed my stomach #i closed my eyes and sunk down to fully submerge quickly bobbing back up to float on my back the sun kissing my cheeks and palms #he swam out to me as i gently kicked pulling my arms and hands behind my head strong strokes leading me deeper into the pond #a stick cracked in the distance and my eyes tracked back to shore a large black dog approached a smile on their face #i waved up and called out that hes friendly and that we're just out swimming another Belgian shepherd appeared and rushed into the water #the three dogs smelled one another dropping into play bows in the shallows before paddling out i stayed in bewteen the shore/where they swam #their handler was more focused on his phone and his bike for which i was thankful to not need to make small talk or emerge from the water #after about a half hour they carried on leaving us in the water i peered below the surface watching tadpoles and small fish swim #he would have stayed in all day but i had to start heading back and stop hiding from my life he held back as i got dressed/oriented to trail #i felt frustrated and furious and fearful trying not to let their intensity swallow me whole: there was nothing for me to do #there was/is nothing for me to do: i released myself from it all last year but the heart is a tender place #i tried to refocus in on the sight smells and sounds around me and was only semi-successful #i have pots to paint and plants to plant #anyways
