SCHOOL

he attended the van buren elementary school , the brown county middle school , then the brown county high school. his peers knew him as "guts" and considered him to be off - putting. ( * he did not transition until after he graduated , but he did chop his hair to this length and typically dressed in heavy / oversized layers ) since the town was so small , tim generally stuck to himself.

SIGNIFICANT LOCATIONS

tim spends as much time as possible away from home , and often would not return until it got dark out. his favorite place to read ( or to work on homework ) was an abandoned hunting blind in the woods of mount liberty. if he isn't there , he can often be found loitering at elkinsville , indiana a nearby ghost town. it was evacuated via eminent domain in 1964 when it was intentionally flooded , so it's often a quiet place to hide out. tim also enjoys the covered bridge in bean blossom , but he rarely makes the trip up there. sometimes , the shop owner on state road 46 will give him a free can of opossum meat. tim thinks it's hilarious and will snack on it up in his hunting blind.

THE RETURN TO GNAW BONE

after frank gutterson died , tim inherited the house. he has not been back to the property since enlisting , so it sat entirely untouched for the ten years that tim was in the service. he was forced to move back into the house after he was medboarded out of the army at the age of 28. the property was a wreck. the yard was overgrown , the pipes had frozen and burst long ago , and someone had broken in and stolen the copper wiring at some point. stepping foot in the house was incredibly triggering and prompted an onslaught of intrusive memories. he ended up sleeping in the driveway , sheltered under his truck. by the end of his first week there , tim decided that he was going to apply to the u.s. marshal service. the decision was driven by a few key desires : to utilize the skillset he developed in the service , to mitigate his own 'danger' to good people , and to stop ( kill ) men like his father. he kept the house only long enough to apply to the usms. since he was applying from an indiana residence , he could only be assigned to a city within their mid - western hiring district. ( region depicted below , as highlighted in orange ) he was placed into the lexington , kentucky office and is contractually obligated to remain there for a minimum of three years. tim does not like kentucky it's far too close to indiana , but he's hoping that they'll transfer him once his three years are up. he was hired under a "veteran priority preference" so he will eventually get more preferential assignments and will no longer be limited by the MW hiring district.

SELLING THE HOUSE

after receiving confirmation that he would begin training for the usms , tim sold his house. he traded it for only $50,000 despite it being worth more because he wanted it gone as soon as possible.
