His admission, for a moment, has her head tilting curiously- then she realizes fast that it seems his teammates had played them both for fools. Any embarrassment she would feel eased by another confession that has her flushing across her freckled cheekbones to hear so plainly that he truly had feelings for her anyway. His shy apology and self-deprecating words having her eyes soften notably. Her response coming slow and gentle despite the way color still lingers high on her features.
"Well, I have had much worse tricks played on me but if you really are interested in me, like this? Then I am glad for it, Marcus. It's not too much, I promise."
She had not known what call what it was that they had been doing over many months now. Ever since he had stepped in when a guest at a charity event had grabbed her harshly, having had too much to drink they had steadily spent more time together. For the entire season actually, the Northern Divers had given her a catering contract for all manner of events. But, while they had talked in stolen moments. With him staying back to help her clean up more and more, she had still worried that it was only ever to be a fleeting flirtation. That it was only a natural result of proximity and his kindness that she would want him.
When he smiles, studying her. Something is his eyes has her holding her breath for second as he gives a subtle nod of approval and a compliment. Before she can respond at all, a waiter stepping between them to leave water filled and her wondering if she had somehow imagined his words with how quickly and casually he moves to what they should eat.
Beautiful. He had called her beautiful.
Feeling a bit dazed, because he was not the only one unused to dates anymore she opens the menu to look through. Surprised to see he was right that there were so many different offerings of things she wondered how a single restaurant could make so much. His following question having her gaze lift to meet the warmth of his eyes.
"I have never been here, either. I am not very picky, or vegetarian but there is a lot that looks good. Thank you, for picking it. I wouldn't mind drinking if you do with me."
After a breath, she can't help but laugh seeing that he may be more nervous that she is. Bringing her hand that had been resting in her lap to rest palm up on the white tablecloth in a tentative offering while another brief, bright, goodnatured laugh leaves her.
"Just... breathe, pretend we are just talking, like usual. I'm nervous too, it's been a while. For me, a few years since I have done something like this."
