Child of Light is one of those rare games that adopts a creative aesthetic and never wavers from its stylistic design that makes it a charming and whimsical RPG. The entire game is written in rhyme, the gorgeous art style and sing-song dialogues succeed in imbuing the adventure with an enchanting fairy tale vibe. When you’re exploring to the backdrop of a piano tune,or battling to the death right as an orchestral score swells, the hauntingly beautiful music makes it feel like an epic ballad.
Child of Lighthas some extremely enjoyable gameplay that surprises in a lot of ways. Strategic planningrequires in turn-based battles, as enemies can be temporarily slowed and interrupted entirely with proper timing. Child of light provides a fantastic sense of progression, as you level up; your characters gain skill points to spend in their extensive ability trees. Some problem that you’ll face in the game is with the writing, which often sacrifices clarity for the sake of maintaining rhyme, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying this wonderful game.

Bravely Default is decent game, following Wind Vestal Agnès Oblige on her journey to awaken four crystals located around the world. She’s joined by a spunky princess, an amnesiac, and the one survivor of a destroyed town. Well, Bravely Default started its life as a Final Fantasy game, but eventually evolved into its own thing. It would have gone down as the best Final Fantasy game in the years. This RPG features a fairly standard turn-based system with a twist every turn you can choose to either “Brave” (AKA, expend a Battle Point and gain an extra attack) or “Default” (AKA, block and bank a Battle Point). This simple mechanic, mixed with Bravely Default’s clever Job system, totally changes the flow of battles. This creating one of the freshest turn-based combat systems in recent memory is one of the innovative things you can find in the games.

Broken Age is a point and click adventure game. Broken Age’s two narratives tell different stories, but they’re linked in interesting thematic ways. The first tells the story of Shay, a boy kept safe in a floating spaceship (despite his desire for adventure and danger); and the second has Vella chosen as a sacrifice to a giant monster (despite her desire to, you know, not die).
It would be an understatement if we said that DoubleFine had spent all of the Kickstarter-acquired money on half of Broken Age. Thankfully, the developer didn’t just deliver on its promise to bring back the classic point and click adventure, but it will exceed you expectations with a compelling story, absolutely amazing visuals, and a damn good justification for splitting the story in two parts. Seriously, you actually like it in this way and that’s something younever going to say.
