i'm going to listen to the album of the artist you like even though he's not really my vibe. i'm going to read the book you suggested even though it's not a genre i usually enjoy. i'll watch the show. i will try the recipe. i will play the video game, or at least watch a deep-dive youtube explaining the really-long lore so i have some idea of what's happening. the movie you suggested is too scary for me, but - i mean, the wikipedia page is kind of interesting - look at the length of the section Controversy.
this is not a burden. i think maybe "burden" and "love" might be oppositional, the way sometimes "love" and "hate" are not opposites. a burden is a dragging. i love you because you brought me to the water, and it is the horizon of your heart. i love you because of your nervous pacing around the edges of the rabbit hole.
often you are right. some songs on that album remind me of the spark in your eyes. the book was really thought-provoking.
more i just want to understand enough that you can talk to me. that you can explain, in depth, why it matters that wheat has shallow roots. i love you, even platonically - your love of this thing leaks into me. i watch you, cautious and dancing, the shy desire for you to smear the colors of this thing into my life, too.
they are your colors, though. of course i want them here, in the marginalia of my life. you matter to me. i want them to crowd the little moments of my day. i want your fingerprints scattered throughout the rooms of my heart.
one time i spent about six months reading and researching a particular author, just so i could talk to one of my friends about him. i never got the chance. she betrayed me, broke my trust, and sided with her abusive ex-boyfriend. standing in the sodden floodplain of what she left over, some bitter part of me asked - isn't that tragic? you have all this knowledge and nothing to do with it.
but i did have all that knowledge, though. when i reach for it, i still feel it glow.
something about you, and your voice, and your hands.
to be honest for a while now the world has passed over me in static. i feel it rumble overhead, unruly and unhappy, tire tracks over skin. when i close my eyes i see only refracted light and rain. no matter how much i sleep, i am exhausted over and over again. i have tried everything. girls and pills and makeup and prayer and chastity and sobriety and violence and tearing off a fancy dress and putting it on again. i might just be permanently shaped like this.
something about you, though. you cut into the soft bits. everything turns color-swift and loud. like you can push your hands through the fabric. like you can find me and pin me down. like all the running and fighting and biting down was pointless; i'd been home for longer than i'd counted. the first time you looked at me - really looked, caught my anxious eyes like a bird - i felt some little rabbit kick her legs, bound up somewhere in the razorwire radio silence dominating my heart.
i can't be known like that. i can't be touched like that. you can't love me like that.
i'll simply come apart.

looking at the little fragile scraps of your life, trying to arrange them into the fabric of dragonfly wings. you'd rather be icarus, right? that's why you cry at the hymn. you want so badly out of this tower - good lord. you'd burn just for the chance for it.
i don't want to celebrate but i know this body is an animal that i must tend to like a cow. i put on jazz music and rub my hands down my fur and sometimes brush out the tangles. the cowbody is splotchy and angry and grows horns and always walks too heavy. it is sometimes very hard to love a cowbody. it is hard not to envy the fox or the crow.
i don't want to celebrate, this was a terrible year and i accomplished nothing.
i put coffee on the stove though. i made my bed. i handmade all my christmas presents this year, and it made my mom happy. i don't cry every day anymore, just some of them, and it's not as violent. i finally made something recognizable as bread.
we are supposed to celebrate sometimes, because it is important for the animal body to feel joy, even for manufactured reasons. i hold garlands and feel raw and sullen. i want to spend the party with my eyes closed, just breathing. this was a terrible year, and took too much. in the span of twelve months - my life, slashed in pieces. from half-full to bottom-of-the-cup.
i am going to bake a lot of cookies. i am going to make champagne punch. i am going to show the cow of my body to an empty field and tell her - it's not much, but. this is how i will love her today, when i do not want to. i will put a bell on her and hold her. we are celebrating that i finally learned how to knit, and am very bad at it. that i walked my dog in dark woods and watched the seasons pass. that i made myself a good meal once in a while. we are celebrating nothing but the sun, the grass. the ever-lovely wide night sky.
for now, i guess. we celebrate that we did not die.
It’s Wednesday, the very last Wednesday. The world is ending, and you’re talking to me about the latest episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
I want to put my hands around your neck and wring the breath out. I want you to think for one second about your impending doom.
You don’t seem to sense that I’m upset; you never do. I would sit here like a statue forever anyway. But we don’t have forever.
“I’d marry you tomorrow,” is what I want to say. “I wish we had more time.”
There won’t be a tomorrow. You won’t think about the end and pinpoint this day. You won’t even remember this conversation next week. You won’t remember my birthday next year. You won’t wish for more time. You wouldn’t marry me even if there was a tomorrow.
Your ghost walks on every street in this fucking town. You're 3,000 miles away and I'm stuck in this place.
On my way to the doctor I drive by the pizza place where your card declined and I paid for your pizza.
And there's the cafe we where met this summer for the first time in years.
Over there is the grocery store where we bought food for the dinner party. You made the grossest looking potato salad, and it turned out delicious.
There's the coffee shop where you taught me how to play poker, I've been avoiding it. Across is the bubble tea shop where you beat me at chess and I paid for your food.
There's the streets we walked around when we lost my car, there's the street I turn down to get to your house.
There's the park where I thought about kissing you.
I drive by the corner with the flowers where I told you about the girl I was in love with and you told me about how you and your girlfriend didn't want to do long distance.
And there's the movie theater we didn't see a movie in, there's the apartments you lived in in middle school.
And suddenly it's been three months since we've talked and I'm on my way to a date with a boy who will move away in a week and I drive past the park where you slapped me in the face in eighth grade.
This whole town is haunted. I'm so glad it is. Please come back. You can haunt my house, I'll make you cookies. Please haunt me close up.

i was better before i loved you. i was free before that. an ibis in black water. i never learned how to choose a shield; somehow always end up selecting a gun. maybe i have a scarab beetle instead of a heart. she only bites down. the blood always comes.
every week someone else is new on the internet and it can be you and it could save your life and it could make you money and it could have corporations in your comments calling you cute and sexy and beautiful and isn't that lovely?
i had a nightmare of a future where at red lights and stop signs, an ad would play across the stoplight. advertisers had sold it as "encouraging drivers to pay more attention." i woke up covered in thin sweat, grateful i don't live there yet.
i am playing video games with my girlfriend, make a twitch stream. i am good at makeup, make a youtube. i am good at crafts and mildly funny. tiktok and instagram and brand deal paid partnership.
commodity! make yourself a commodity! in this economy if you land the dehumanization of advertisement that's a godsend. get that bag! chase that coin! good luck paying off your student loans! make yourself a billboard. karl marx crawling in his grave, paint yourself as capitalist hellscape. show your followers. be terribly alone. build an empire of bone.
run, rat! run! but first, check to see if your fur is sleek. for that all-natural glow, check the link in bio.

wrote this song a bit ago... I honestly wasn't sure if I would release such a rough version of anything ever. but I think if I let perfectionism hold me to impossible standards I will never share my art. so here u go world. I released this 14 days ago on my 21st birthday and I think like maybe 15 people have listened to it. which is not a lot but also very cool because omg! I wrote that 👍
anyway. this song is about a boy. most of my other songs are also about this very same boy. as a queer artist and a woman this feels lame of me. and also as a person it feels maybe too vulnerable to say all these things about someone who I don't even really talk to anymore. but at the same time I think if I don't turn it into art it will eat me alive from the inside. so yeah
I just don't know how he didn't get it yk. like yes I will drive you around even though I hate driving. yes I will fix the stitching on the seat of your car. let me buy your slice of pizza when your card declines. I'll answer the phone even if I was sleeping. I love you. can't u see it
