"I’m all for getting paid to sit on my ass all day!" He laughed and leaned his chair back, putting his hands behind his head.
To be honest, he was a little bit disappointed. He at least expected that they might walk around the building a little or have a security dog, or working security monitors.Â
What seemed like minutes ticked by, staring at the screens as they flickered. If this was really the job he’d rather jump off a bridge. He found himself staring at the clock as its broken second hand steadily ticked in place and felt as if time really did stop. He wondered what this Julian guy was like, if he was a stick in the mud or not.
"So! Let’s say we take a walk around the place!" He put his chair down on its four legs with a loud thud and stood up. "You know, "patrol"." He used actual finger quotes and left the room.
Julian raised an eyebrow as his new coworker walked out briskly, surprised at the enthusiasm. He remembered how he felt on his first day, the idea of a covert bank guard taking down the bad guys trying to rob a bank, and he smiled to himself. It was a terribly boring job, so he slowly sat up and followed. "I'll give you the 'grand tour'."
As they walked out of the back hall, he pointed to a large room. You could see into it through the windows but the doors required what looked like a card key, something Julian would never hold. Through the window was a square, white room with double doors on the other side. "That's where they keep some of the safety deposit boxes. God only knows what some people have in there. I saw some guys, could'a sworn they were cartel, come in here and dump $500s by the bucket." He grinned at Eli. "I've seen people deposit keys to who knows where, wives stashing cash behind their husbands' backs..." He looked back to the room. "It makes you wonder what these people have going for them."
