every now and then I see people passing screencaps of these posts around, and in the months after I made this post there were people checking in on me assuming I was going through grief or depression or something

to set the record straight, the context is that I had covid and was bleeding from my throat and lungs, but for some ungodly reason, I was feverishly driven to drink lemonade and kept screaming and writhing because I was pouring fizzy lemon juice on open throat wounds

hey why did I just see someone trying to convince people that going on hrt a terrible decision because you're making yourself a lifelong slave to the healthcare system to be exploited because *checks notes* many people who take hrt need to take it for the rest of their lives because the hormones will never naturally balance out

It's so crazy that in order to have healthcare you need to interact with the healthcare system right guys?? Lets all just be unhealthy and suicidal because hrt doesn't save lives you're just exploiting yourself!!!

This is one reason why, despite the violence of trans people's history at the hands of medical institutions, I will always advocate for trans and disabled solidarity as a shared struggle.

I've heard these exact arguments all my life about anti-depressants, a treatment that doesn't work for everybody but has definitely saved my life.

The truth is, the vast majority of us will never be independent. If picking up HRT from the pharmacy makes you a "slave" to the medical industry (a comparison that feels disrespectful to say the least) picking up milk and eggs makes you equally a "slave" to the grocery store.

Disability theorists have talked about how existing while disabled can destroy people's perception of being independent creatures who can survive without the collective. Despite how our food, water, sanitation, shelter, and education have always depended upon cooperative living, the reality that everyone is interdependent is invisibilized in a way that disablement breaks.

Don't allow other people's existential crises to dissuade you from flourishing. You deserve it.

Of course they don’t like Milly Alcock’s Supergirl. She’s a grown ass woman with zero love interests who spends the movie saving her dog, casually dismantling a sex trafficking ring while she’s at it, and preaching the importance of being good, not nice or smiley or cheerful but good. I for one adored the movie and I really hope I’ll get to see more of Alcock’s Supergirl she’s now my favorite iteration of her and I love her so dearly.
