Casey Jr. is one of those Disney characters who has enormous untapped potential. He's cheerful, hardworking, endlessly optimistic, and literally carried one of Disney's most beloved characters into history. Giving him his own film opens the door for something that feels like a blend of a classic Disney adventure, a railroad movie, and a heartfelt coming-of-age story.

The film opens years after the events of Dumbo. Casey Jr. has become something of a celebrity among circus trains across America. Children adore him. Animals recognize him. Circus workers tell stories about the little engine that carried Dumbo on the greatest night in circus history. The problem? Casey Jr. hates being famous.
Everywhere he goes, people only know him as "Dumbo's train."
"Hey! That's the train that carried Dumbo!"
"Do the hill song!"
"Say 'I think I can!'"
Casey smiles politely, but secretly wonders:
"What if I've got my own story to tell?"
Act One: Retirement of the Circus
The circus business is slowly fading away.
Modern transportation methods have begun replacing circus trains. Many of Casey's old friends have retired or been sold to museums.
The Ringmaster—now a much kinder and wiser man than he was in Dumbo—announces heartbreaking news:
"We're closing the circus."
The animals are devastated. Casey is crushed. For the first time in his life, he doesn't have anywhere to go. The circus was his home.
An eccentric railroad historian named Professor Theodore Finch arrives. He runs something called:
The Great American Railway Exposition.
It's essentially Disneyland for trains.
Steam engines, electric locomotives, monorails, narrow gauge engines, mountain railways, and historic circus trains from around the world are all showcased there.
He recognizes Casey immediately.
"You're Casey Jr.!"
"THE Casey Jr.?"
The Professor invites Casey to become the exposition's newest ambassador and living exhibit. Casey reluctantly accepts.
The middle portion of the movie becomes an absolutely delightful railroad adventure.
Casey meets trains from all over the world:
An arrogant French high-speed train that believes steam engines belong in museums.
A cheerful Japanese bullet train obsessed with punctuality.
A wise old American locomotive that fought in World War II.
A Scottish mountain engine with a booming laugh.
A tiny mining locomotive who idolizes Casey.
A glamorous presidential train that treats everyone like royalty.
A circus train from India that considers Casey a legend.
For perhaps the first time in his life, Casey is surrounded by other trains who have their own stories to tell.
He slowly realizes something important:
He isn't "just Dumbo's train."
The exposition is threatened by a wealthy developer who wants to replace the railway park with a luxury resort and shopping district. His argument isn't entirely unreasonable:
"Trains are old."
"Children don't care about steam locomotives anymore."
Casey's confidence immediately collapses. Perhaps he's right. Maybe trains like him are simply relics.
Casey quietly prepares to leave during the night. As he's rolling away, he passes through the exposition grounds and sees:
Children pretending to be trains.
Families taking pictures.
Elderly railroad workers smiling at restored locomotives.
Young engineers drawing train designs.
Museum volunteers restoring forgotten engines.
He realizes something profound:
Old doesn't mean obsolete.
History still matters.
The developer's negligence accidentally causes a major washout during a violent thunderstorm. Several historic locomotives become stranded on a damaged mountain line. Only Casey can navigate the old railway safely.
Suddenly, the little circus engine finds himself once again climbing a seemingly impossible hill. This time, however, he isn't carrying circus animals. He's carrying history itself.
As he struggles up the mountain, the music swells into a brand-new version of his famous song.
The entire exposition's locomotives work together to save one another in a spectacular railway rescue sequence worthy of classic Disney animation.
The exposition is saved. The developer changes his mind after seeing the joy Casey brings to people of all ages and becomes one of its biggest financial supporters. Casey Jr. becomes the official host of the Great American Railway Exposition. Children from around the world visit him every day.
When one little girl asks:
"That's one of the things I'm famous for."
"What's the other thing?"
Casey chuckles before replying:
"Well now, that's a very long story."
The film ends with Casey taking a group of children on a tour of the exposition while singing a triumphant new rendition of "Casey Jr. Comes Rolling Down the Track."
An familiar shadow falls across Casey's tracks.
A light British voice says:
"Good heavens. You're much smaller than I expected."
Casey looks up to see a famous blue tank engine visiting from overseas.
"Hello there! I'm Thomas."
The overall film would celebrate railroading history, preserving the magic of the circus era without glorifying its more problematic aspects, and giving Casey Jr. the heartfelt Disney adventure he has always deserved. At its core, it's a story about discovering that being remembered for one great thing doesn't mean that's the only thing you'll ever be.
