Hi! I was wondering what your thoughts are on the new Olivia album?

Oh my god, it's so good!!!! I have been listening to nothing else for the past 3 days. As to the music itself I have many thoughts, first being that I can hear a lot of new wave influences on songs ex. my way and what's wrong with me which I don't see a lot of people talking about and has made me annoyed at the people on like instagram who are all "no rock-livia on this album :(" as if new wave wasn't literally the post-punk rock movement. Second, I think there is something almost more raw or maybe heartbreaking about an album where you hear the full relationship from beginning to end and feel it's whole story. Like that's not to say that guts and sour don't have devastating songs, because they do (and more of them per album too), but when you have songs like honeybee where it's established that it's a pet-name she calls him only to have her call him honeybee again in cigarette smoke while expressing anger at how he never stood up for her there is just an added layer. I also have some thoughts on the track list order, I knew going in from what she said that the album flips half way through with the cure from being love songs to songs about the relationship breakdown, but I think it's actually more complex than that because there are issues referenced in almost every track in the first half. Also the decision to put expectations second to last is so clever to me. A lot of artists might have made it the last song to end on a happier note of like healing or to just end on a more fun song, but the decision to end with a full postmortem of the relationship instead really does just give the thesis of the album "you seem pretty sad".

Now for my current favorite/instant standouts: honeybee (easily my favorite of the love songs), what's wrong with me (I love the chorus so much),less (this song is gut punch after gut punch - just heartbreaking), and cigarette smoke (the connection to honeybee alone would put it high in my rankings but it also just has such amazing imagery)

This may have been done already, but I have a devastating merthur fic idea. Merlin’s magic is revealed by accident and Arthur’s fear and hatred of magic eclipses rational thought and he immediately kills Merlin. Except Merlin is immortal so he doesn’t die. So then the rest of the story is both of them dealing with the consequences: Merlin knowing that his paranoia wasn’t misplaced and his friendship with Arthur wasn’t enough and Arthur having crazy trust issues and has to deal with the horror that he killed his best friend.

Of course it somehow works out in the end but the angst road to forgiveness would be very long.

The thing about Lord/Knight gay romance is that there’s no way you can cut it that doesn’t make the sex hotter. At a baseline, the Lord is allowing his subject to be his equal partner behind closed doors in a society defined by hierarchy their physical love a blaspheme against the laws of feudalism, but if the knight is dominant, they’re literally upending the fabric of society by having the Lord follow his Knight’s orders and that’s hot and if the Lord is dominant than it’s just another expression of his Knight’s sworn devotion to be at his lord’s service at all times and that’s hot and if it’s historically accurate Christianity then they’re not only desecrating and perverting the Knight’s vow, they’re making sinners of each other in the process and that’s HOT
