I am in the process of rewriting this story. Wattpad only has the re-written chapters (personally, I recommend reading it there!), while AO3 has ALL written chapters (I leave a note at the top of each updated chapter, so if you do not see a note, it means I haven't edited it yet and it is the original version).
Nine years after the events of Hogwarts Legacy, Sebastian Sallow has little hope for a positive future. While serving a life sentence in Azkaban, he managed to escape with the assistance of a terroristic organization of Dark wizards. When the Ministry of Magic eventually caught up with Sebastian, he struck a deal to serve as a double-agent and bring the gang to justice as a means to his freedom. Lonely, traumatized, and depressed, he never imagines his luck will change. But one moonlit night, it does. Fate intervenes in the form of Kate Mayflower, the Hogwarts assistant librarian. Infinitely optimistic and kind, she helps Sebastian find joy and peace again as he regains his humanity and rebuilds his life. While their journey towards happily ever after is a turbulent one, they slowly learn to trust in each other, believe in the power of true love, and heed the lessons from the past in order to grow.

Banished from the only lives theyâve ever known, Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt seek refuge at Nivalis, Canadaâs school of witchcraft and wizardry. But fresh beginnings are fragile, and as new loves and friendships take root, something ancient and ravenous awakens in the northern wilderness.
It has been an absolute blast to collaborate on this project. I've been brainstorming, beta reading, and writing some of the later chapters from the perspectives of Ominis and my original character, Willow Abbott. This story has a little bit of everything - strong friendships, slow burn love stories, thrills and chills, humor and fun moments, sports, action, tons of drama, folklore elements, etc. I hope you will check it out!

A Post-Azkaban Sebastian Sallow x OC Story
Previous Chapter Recap/Context: Sebastian and Kateâs date continues. They find Ernie Larkâs Band and join in the festive dancing in the gardens of Hogsmeade. While dancing, the two discuss their parents. Sebastian asks how he can charm Kateâs family, now that she has invited him to be her date to future weddings. She tells him about her dad and how he would warm up if Seb were to discuss Quidditch or gardening or simply demonstrate how much he cares for her. Sebastian shares the story of how his parents were once academic rivals at Hogwarts that eventually fell in love. He remembers that they did everything together, including work. At the time they passed away, they were researching reincarnation. Sebastian briefly leaves to acquire cold drinks. When he returns, he discovers Kate excitedly chatting with and hugging a stranger who turns out to be her ex-boyfriend; Henry has just gotten a job as Beasts professor at Hogwarts, and Seb could not be less thrilled about this prospect. They decide to return home after Kate reassures Sebastian that she loves and has chosen him.
Content Warnings:Â Possessive sex, light domination/submission themes, light bondage, restraints, discussion of past abuse and stalking
Chapter Music: âJealousâ - Nick Jonas (slowed), âFinnâs Confessionâ - John Williams, âDistant Livesâ - Adrian Johnston
Author's Note: Thank you so much for your patience on this chapter. I know it has been a long, long time, so I recommend reading Chapter 22 first to get a better understanding of Sebastian's headspace in this one. No pressure, though!

Chapter 23: Trust
When the cottage living room appears around them and they touch solid ground, Sebastianâs chocolate eyes flicker over every feature of Kateâs face before crashing his lips against hers. He picks her up, carrying her straight to the bedroom with his hands squeezing her arse.
Kate has never seen Sebastianâs eyes so dark and determined.Â
He practically drops her on the bed, following immediately, his knee between her legs. Her delicate hands are pressed into the bed above her head. Kate moans as they kiss, feeling his arousal quickly come to life against her thigh.Â
Sebastian nips her bottom lip, then swipes his tongue along it. Her mouth opens. Swept up in the moment, she breathes sharply through her nose, unwilling to break away from him for even a second.
His right hand lets go of hers, his fingers traveling down her wrists, her arms, her chest, and finally, they settle over her covered breast. He cups and squeezes until her nipple hardens.Â
His kiss-swollen lips finally move beyond her mouth to her cheek and then down her neck, so slowly, listening closely to her breathing as it grows labored. His tongue darts out, tracing a line down her neck and back up again.Â
âSe⌠bas⌠tianâŚâ she groans. âBashâŚâ
He begins down her neck once more, alternating between kissing and lightly nibbling her skin over and over. In response, she makes the most delicious, most addicting noises â better than he could ever dream.Â
Rubbing his finger over her covered but incredibly stiff nipple causes Kate to cry out and squirm beneath Sebastian. She writhes even more when his mouth closes around the skin where her neck and shoulder connect, sucking. She whines in pleasure, bucking up into his knee and upper leg, seeking the relief of friction.Â
âPlease,â Kate whines, her chest heaving. âPlease, BashâŚâ
He raises his head, panting, staring down at her flushed face, her lips red from his bruising kisses. âTell me you need me,â he commands in a husky voice. âSay it.â
Sebastian grinds his knee against her cunt, and she whimpers again.
âI need you, Sebastian. Please, I need you.â
âMore,â he growls. âBeg for me. Tell me Iâm the only one who can do this to you. Make me believe it.â
His head dips back down. His teeth lightly close around her clothed but prominent nipple.Â
âFuck, Sebastian!â Kate yelps. âPlease, I need you!â Arching her back, she pushes herself against his thigh. She quickly adds, âI only want you! Iâm yours, Iâm yours â fuck, Iâm yours!â
âThatâs my good girl,â he whispers darkly. âWhat do you want, Kate? Tell me.â
âMerlin!â she practically shouts out of frustration. âYou know what I want. I need you. Please â stop teasing!â
âIâm not teasing,â he murmurs in her ear, a devilish smile creeping across his face. âI like to hear you sing, my love. I want you to only sing for me.â He pauses, breathing heavily, his hand returning to squeeze her breast. âIâm going to make you scream for me tonight. Youâll never think of any other man. Iâll make you so full of me it wonât be possible for you to think of anyone else. You only want me to fuck you. Tell me â tell me itâs true.â
Kate moans in response, still rubbing herself shamelessly against him. âGods, Sebastian â I never think of anyone else! I donât want anyone else!â She practically sobs in desperation. âSurely you must know⌠how often Iâve touched myself, dreaming about you⌠wanting you inside me⌠so badlyâŚâ
Itâs true. In her filthiest dreams, Sebastian makes love to her over and over again, filling her to the brim with his seed until it spills out of her, then paints her breasts and abdomen with endless ropes of cum. He never stops, never relents. Heâs insatiable, and so is she, begging for more, to the point of overstimulation, until sheâs on the verge of tears.
âGods, you canât possibly understand what that does to me â how much that turns me onâŚâ He groans. âI canât tell you how many times I fantasized about you when IâŚâ He stops, shaking his head. âItâs shameful⌠How many times I came, picturing your thighs around my head, your facial expression as you cameâŚâ With every pause, he kisses her neck, her lips, her ear â anywhere he can. âI could almost taste you on my tongue, feel your legs shaking⌠I never stopped wanting you⌠I practically lived in my imagination, pretending you wanted me like I wanted you, like some crazed, obsessed fool⌠Every time was an eruption, more intense than anything I had ever felt before⌠I wasnât willing to let it go â let you go⌠It had to mean something⌠had toâŚâ A ragged breath escapes him. âAnd I know now⌠itâs because youâre mine, Kate. Youâre only mine. Meant to be mine,â Sebastian insists. âNo one else can have you. I wonât let them. Weâre⌠weâre meant to be together. I swear Iâm sure of it â Iâve known it all along⌠I love you so fucking muchâŚâ
As his hands roam, her name falls repeatedly from his lips.
âNo one else can touch you, feel your body,â he continues. In one swift move, he slides back, standing and pulling her up with him. She gasps. He reaches behind her, making quick work of the buttons on her dress. âJust me. Iâm the only one who can take off your clothes, see underneath.â Her dress falls, the fabric pooling on the floor around her. He gazes upon her hungrily, eyeing the lacy, baby blue corset that barely contains her tits and the tiny, barely-there knickers she chose for him, for tonight. âGods⌠Good Gods, sunshine. Your sexy lingerie is only for me.âÂ
âAnd removing your lingerie,â he whispers in a velvety voice as he reaches around her, untying and loosening the stays, âis a job reserved for me alone.â
Sebastian opens the corset to reveal her huge breasts, her nipples rosy and pert. âIâm the only man in the world who will ever get to enjoy your breasts â the pleasure of seeing them, cupping them in my hands, feeling them pressed against my body,â he murmurs quietly, bending his knees just enough so that his face is level with her tits. His tongue dips out to trace circles around the nipple that was neglected earlier. Her breath hitches. Then, his lips close around it and suck until it is as stiff as possible. He releases it with a pop. âNo other man will know how good your tits feel in my mouth.â
He directs Kate back to the bed, seating her across his lap. His huge hands explore her back, running up and down. âIâm not willing to share you.â His hands settle on her bum. His voice is husky, his breath warm against her ear. âYour silky skin, your decadent curves, your perfectly round arse⌠they all belong to me.â She shivers from his touch. His fingers are feather-light, tracing down her leg and closing over her foot, squeezing, practically massaging. âEvery part of you is mine â your thighs, your legs, your dainty little feet.âÂ
His lips press a kiss to her shoulder as she hums in pleasure.
âYouâre perfect, love â the most perfect woman in the world for me,â he whispers as his fingers move back up her leg and slide underneath the lacy band of her panties. âYour cunt is my home. You were made to take me and only me.â He pulls gently on the fabric, lowering it easily and tossing it across the room.
Sebastian gently flips Kate on her back against the bed, her breasts bouncing. âAnd because youâre mine, do you trust me, Kate? Do you trust me to make you feel good?â
Kate sighs as his lips move across her collarbone. âYes. Gods, Sebastian⌠PleaseâŚâ she whimpers in response.Â
âThatâs my girl. Youâre so good for me,â he whispers as he rises, removing his own clothing piece by piece, quickly and efficiently, until he is bare. His cock stands proud.
Glancing around the room, he notices a drawer that Kate must have accidentally left open earlier â one filled with hair ornaments and ribbons of every color. He strides over and selects two long, green ribbons. Kate watches him curiously, splayed out on the bed, as he returns to crawl over her. He wraps a ribbon around her left wrist, tying it to one of the bars of the headboard. Kateâs heart pounds as he does the same with her other wrist but at the base of the bed, her arms stretched out wide and her lower legs dangling over the side of the bed.Â
Testing the restraints, Kateâs eyes flick up to his through her eyelashes. âThis isâŚâ Her pulse rushes in anticipation. âWhat do you want withâŚâ
âWith you? With this?â he finishes, tugging on one of the ribbons. âI want to show you⌠that you belong to me. Iâll always have you. Iâll never let you go. I want to know youâll agree⌠that youâre mine. Completely. That youâll stay with me.â
âI will,â she replies quietly, her cheeks flushed. âI am completely yours. Gods, Sebastian⌠look at you. Why would I ever want to leave?â She licks her lips, her gaze focusing on his strong, athletic body, eyes roaming over his toned pecs, the dark hair on his chest, his large biceps, the veins running down his forearms, his defined abs, a v-shape leading to a patch of coarse hair, and his enormous cock, bubbling with pre-cum. Even his thighs are somehow muscular. âYouâre the most attractive man Iâve ever met. I need you.â
Smirking and blushing, he takes a deep breath, grounding himself for what is to come. âI want to be the only one you need, princess. Iâll take care of you. I love you.â
Sebastian lowers to his knees next to the bed and spreads her legs wide, her thighs tight against his head. Kateâs eyes widen as she feels his lips against her cunt. She whimpers as he licks long stripes between her folds, flicking over her clit repeatedly.Â
âYouâre so wet,â he murmurs. âJust for me. Just for me.â
âYes,â she whines as he presses open mouthed kisses to her heat. âPlease, moreâŚâ
Kateâs breath hitches when she feels two of Sebastianâs fingers slowly enter her. They begin to pump in and out. âMmmmm, oh⌠Oh gods, Sebastian!â
His lips close around her sensitive clit, sucking, as he pleasures her. Kateâs back arches. It doesnât last long. He can feel her muscles contracting around his digits as she cries out his name over and over. He continues until she comes down from her high, then slowly pulls his fingers out and licks them clean.
âYouâre so sweet, Kate,â he tells her in a hushed voice. âSo fucking sweet on my tongue. Iâm the luckiest man â the only one in the world who will ever get to taste you, savor you.â He rises to his feet, cock aching with desire. âAnd Iâm the only one who will make love to you for the rest of your life. The only person who will ever make you come.âÂ
Lifting her legs up to rest along his abdomen and chest, Sebastian places Kateâs feet on his shoulders. His hands grip her shapely hips tightly as he lines himself up with her cunt. âIâm going to make you see stars, Kate. Iâll always put you first, my love - youâll always feel good with me. I promise.â
Sebastian pushes in, expecting some resistance, but Kate is drenched. His entire cock slides in fully at once, causing both of them to gasp sharply. He begins to move his hips slowly, but she begs him for more. Soon, his hips are rocking back and forth, creating the most obscene, wet sounds. His balls slap against her arse as they moan.
Kate grabs the ribbons tied to her wrists, desperate for something to hold on to as Sebastian pounds into her relentlessly. Both of them are red in the face, panting sharply. She makes unintelligible sounds as his tip kisses her g-spot over and over. Her breasts jiggle with every thrust.
âNnnnnnnghhh⌠Seb⌠SebâŚâ she practically sobs, her body shaking. âIâm⌠Iâm gonna⌠Oh, gods, Bash!!!â Kateâs vision goes white.
Her walls tighten around him. His hips stutter as he strokes into her a couple more times, and then, he meets his release as well. He groans her name as he throws his head back, spilling into her. He surges forward a few more times, unwilling to waste even a single drop of his seed.
Kate is his.
He has to completely claim her.
Time seems to stop. Sebastianâs body trembles as he pulls out and slowly lowers her legs. He collapses on the bed next to her and attempts to untie the ribbons binding her wrists. Kate canât help but chuckle quietly as he struggles, his mind fuzzy. He eventually succeeds.Â
Kateâs arms immediately encircle him, and she leans in to kiss him deeply over and over as they come out of the haze of lovemaking.
âI⌠wowâŚâ Sebastian murmurs, still slightly dazed.Â
âThat was amazing,â she whispers, pressing her lips to his again, her hand on his cheek. âSo amazing.â
âI love you, Kate. I love you,â he tells her. âI love you.â
âAnd I love you,â she replies softly.Â
They lay quietly for a long time, just staring at each other and catching their breath.
Eventually, Sebastian offers to get some water, leaving the room. As Kate stares up at the ceiling, she can hear him rummaging in the kitchen for glasses, then filling them. His feet pound against the wooden floor on his way back.Â
They sit up on the edge of the bed, sipping the cool liquid, wrapped together in a blanket.Â
Kate lays her head upon his arm.
As the clock ticks on, she realizes that Sebastian has been staring at the floor for quite a while.Â
âSebastianâŚâ she murmurs carefully, âYou know Iâm not going to leave you for Henry.â
His eyes narrow and his jaw drops in surprise, as though she had read his mind.
âIâll be honest with you. He seemed to be flirting with me tonight, and I was so surprised to even see him that I didnât really know how to reactâŚâ Kate admits, âbut Iâm going to shut that down hard.â
âI knew it,â Sebastian mutters with a frown, shaking his head. âIt was obvious â the way he looked at youâŚâ
âIâm not interested in him,â she continues. âNext time I run into him, Iâll tell him straightaway that I have a boyfriend. Heâs not the kind of person to encourage cheating. Not at all. Heâs honorable â a good man.â She takes his hand, squeezing. âTell me why youâre so worried about him. Be honest with me.â
Sebastian doesnât answer for a while. He considers his words first, and then he looks into her eyes. When he speaks, it is with a bit of a waver. âIâm⌠in love with you. So much. You did something for me I thought would never happen. You gave me a chance. Not only do you accept me, but you⌠you love me â actually love me â despite my past.â He pauses again. âIâve been alone for almost a decade, Kate. Completely alone. My family is gone. My old friends â I donât even know where they are or what theyâre doing. Iâm⌠Iâm not even really supposed to be here. I could be rotting in Azkaban â or dead.â When Kate opens her mouth, he interrupts any protest she might have made. âIâm serious. If I hadnât broken out when I did...â He stares off into the distance. âBut⌠I managed⌠and eventually, I found you. And thatâs when my world completely changed. I⌠have hope again. I have dreams. Iâm in love. Iâm thinking about the future⌠and, gods, my sun, I want to give you everything. You actually made me smile again. I donât fully understand it⌠but somehow, you chose me.â
Outside, an owl hoots loudly.
âKate, youâre⌠youâre all I have to live for. So, imagine being in my place, seeing you so excited to reunite with your ex-boyfriend, whom you only broke up with because of the distance. You must have had very strong feelings for him â you dated him for more than a year. How do you think that makes me feel?â he asks. His face twists. âFuck, Iâll admit it. Iâm bloody insecure. I feel possessive of you. But youâve got to understand why.â
Kate nods in acknowledgement.Â
Thereâs a long silence again.Â
âIâm sorry. Iâm so sorry I feel like this. Iâll work on it. I promise.â Sebastian presses his face against her hair, breathing in its floral scent.
âI⌠I think I understand.â Kate closes her eyes. âIt just⌠makes me sad, knowing you truly believe you have nothing else to live for outside of me." She sighs. "Sebastian, if you can gain your freedom, there will be so much to live for. Think of all you could do. Travel, explore⌠see the entire world! Study anything you want. Make new friends and maybe reconnect with your old ones in time. Start a career of your own choosing. And of course, weâll grow closer togetherâŚâÂ
Sebastian combs his fingers through her golden hair. "Kate, you just don't understand," he whispers softly. "Nothing compares to you. You are the only reason I want to try again after everything." There is a long pause. "I've seen things no one should ever see⌠done things no person should ever do. There's nothing left for me except starting completely over with you by my side."
"I want you by my side, Sebastian. But your life should be so much more than just⌠me." She cups his face in her hands. His eyes slowly close as he leans into her touch. "Whether you agree with the sentiment or not, you deserve happiness after all you've been through. So⌠please, let yourself dream again. Promise me you won't give up on yourself ever again."
His eyes fill with determination as her words sink in. "I promise. And thank you, Kate. For listening... for everything." His arm wraps around her back.
Kate offers a melancholy smile. âI should tell you something, too. About why I donât want to be with someone whoâs outrageously jealous or possessive.â
Sebastian gently brushes a loose strand of hair behind her ear. âIâm listening.â
âMy last serious relationship â two years ago â didnât end well.âÂ
His brows furrow in concern.
âWhen I graduated from Hogwarts, I moved back home with my parents. I got a job in a bookshop in a nearby village, and thatâs where I eventually met him. His name was Joel. He was a few years older than me â I was 20. He visited the store and asked me to help him find some books. I was perhaps too kind, made too many recommendations⌠he started to come into the shop all of the time. He seemed sweet and charming, and his interest in me was obvious. One day, he asked me out for tea, and I agreed. We began seeing each other. It started off great. I fell in love very quickly. My life had been pretty boring after Hogwarts, and suddenly, things were exhilarating again.â
She glances at Sebastian. âTime passed, though, and I chose to ignore my intuition, over and over again. Joel⌠was not who I thought he was. He was possessive and jealous without reason. He started arguments about how I chose to spend my time and with whom. If I met up with my friends, it was only because I wanted to leave him for one of my male friends. If I wanted to spend time with my family or visit my sister at Hogwarts, he would insist I was choosing them over him. It was always a competition. It was exhausting.âÂ
She pauses, placing her hands in her lap. They donât stay still. âThe final straw for me was when my friend group decided to rent a cabin one winter for New Yearâs Eve. There wasnât enough room in the cabin for anyone to bring significant others, so it was just our original Hufflepuff crew⌠and, anyway, my friends did not like Joel. I should have realized that that was an issue, too, but I rationalized it to myself by thinking that they just didnât understand him and that only I did. So, anyway, I went to the cabin with my friends. Joel had asked me to contact him via Floo that night, which was a reasonable request, but once I did, he kept me talking to him for hours while my friends visited and celebrated downstairs. He shouted at me about how I was a terrible girlfriend for leaving him behind. He accused me of wanting to cheat on him with not just one but two of my male friends. It could not have been further from the truth.â She sighs.
Sebastian notices that she has been fidgeting and takes her hand in his. âGo on, love.â
Her face changes to one of despair. âHe told me that if I walked away from the Floo, he would⌠h-hurt himself. I felt like I had no choice. I sat and talked with him about random, mundane things for hours, while my friends, some of whom I rarely saw, got to catch up and have fun without me. Pearl, my best friend, kept checking on me, and I had to pretend I wasnât crying even though something was clearly wrong. It was humiliating, Sebastian. I sobbed when I heard them celebrate the clock striking midnight. Joel finally left the Floo a half hour afterwards â of course when the festivities were over and everyone was falling asleep.â
âThat wasnât fair.â
âNo,â she agrees, wrapping the blanket more tightly around her body. âWhen I returned home on New Yearâs Day, I had fully resolved to break up with him. I met him at his flat. The moment the door closed, he screamed at me about how I was unfaithful to him. I told him we were done. He started to panic and threatened to hurt himself again. I was insistent and told him that no matter what he said, I was breaking up with him. Joel picked up a glass and threw it at the wall, just a few feet from my head. I ran out of there and apparated home as soon as I had a somewhat clear head.â
Sebastianâs eyes widen. âHe⌠tried to hurt you after threatening to harm himself? What a fucking coward.â His hand closes into a fist, trembling slightly. âWhat was his last name?â He attempts to meet her gaze, but she keeps looking away.
She inhales slowly. âIt was⌠T- That doesnât matter.â Kate shakes her head, and then continues. âAfterwards, Joel tried to contact me via Floo. At first, I was polite and would chat with him for a few minutes before making an excuse to leave. Then, he began to show up at my parentsâ manor with gifts, so I instructed our house-elf to pretend I was not home whenever he appeared. Finally, he began to stalk me at the bookshop, where I could not escape him. Every time Joel would come in, heâd bring flowers, demand to see me, and make a huge scene when it was clear that it wouldnât happen. I was constantly hiding in the back room instead of stocking books and helping customers. I was pretty sure I was going to be let go, so⌠I quit, even though I loved that job.â Kate sighs, frowning, tears forming in her eyes.
âAnd then he started sending owls every day â sometimes even multiple times a day. Some of the letters were Howlers. I would never respond. Weeks later, he was still showing up at my parentsâ home in search of me. Thatâs when I realized I had to leave Epping Forest. He would never let up otherwise.â She looks off into the distance. âAnd, fortunately, that was when I found the job posting at Hogwarts and when I purchased the cottage here. My parents didnât want me to move â they thought Iâd be safer with them, and they didnât think â well, my mamma didnât think â a lady of my station needed a full-time job. But I had to leave.â
âI⌠didnât realize that that was the full reason you live here,â Sebastian replies. âIâm so sorry you went through something like that. You didnât deserve to be treated that way. You hadnât done anything wrong.â He leans down to look into her eyes. âKate, youâre⌠quite strong. Brave. I had no idea.â
âIt took me some time to learn that it was not my fault. I had years to reflect.â Her lips tremble as she attempts to hold back tears. âI never want to feel trapped like that again. I need a partner who will not keep me from family and friends. Someone who will trust me completely.â Through glassy eyes, she meets Sebatianâs gaze. âSeb, do you understand?â
The wall seems to creak, as old houses often do.
He nods slowly and seriously. âYes, I understand. Thank you for telling me. I will try my best to control my jealousy.â He waits a moment before speaking again. âIf thereâs ever something bothering you, please tell me. Donât keep your feelings bottled inside. Youâre⌠youâre my future, Kate. I want to be the best partner I can be for you. I mean it with all my heart: I love you. I trust you.âÂ
She pats his hand, finally smiling. âDonât go looking for Joel, Sebastian. I donât want to invite that kind of trouble back into my life. I mean it. The only âtroubleâ I want is with you.â
âTrouble? What? I have no idea what you mean.â He grins. âBut⌠if you want trouble⌠I suppose I can oblige...â
And with that, he tackles her back down onto the bed, pinning her beneath him as she shrieks in laughter.
Reintroducing My OC, Kate Mayflower, Through Artwork and Her Faceclaim
I've returned to the fandom to finally continue The Sun, the Moon, and All My Stars. Rather than just posting a rewrite of Chapter 23 out of the blue, I'm reintroducing the story and my original character, Kate Mayflower, first.
Being part of the Hogwarts Legacy fandom from the beginning has been a great experience. Seeing everyone grow in their writing and artwork, reading encouraging comments, and making lots of new friends... it really is a pleasure. Of course, there have been ups and downs, and people come and go often, but the love we all have for Sebastian and Ominis (and all of the characters, really) never seems to die.
Over the years, I've received some truly amazing art gifts. I thought I would spotlight those in a collage to reintroduce Kate.
Thank you to the artists who beautifully captured Kate over the years: @xxluna-rougexx, @heylorrain, @keri-mcberry, @ladyofsappho, @dwightschrute11, @bassicallymaestra, @wrongcog, @queen-stonehart, and @theladyofshalott1989.
I've commissioned a ton of artwork from @giselsann over the years. If you'd like to take a look at more commissions, check out this post. Here is the first portrait ever of Kate Mayflower.
And wait, there's more! Here's a â¨bonus⨠- I'm not sure if I've ever shared my faceclaim for Kate! It took me ages to discover the actress Sophie Simnett, who looks as close as possible to how I see Kate in my head. I've never seen Ms. Simnett act, but it's pretty clear from Pinterest that she was once in a Disney channel show. How she looked at that time is how I imagine Kate as a student at Hogwarts. How she looks more recently is how I imagine Kate in the timeline of my story (a 24-year-old woman).
Quick summary of the story: Nine years after the events of Hogwarts Legacy, Sebastian Sallow has little hope for a positive future. Although he managed to escape a life sentence in Azkaban with the assistance of a terroristic organization of Dark wizards, the Ministry of Magic eventually caught up with Sebastian. A deal was struck: he would serve as a double-agent and bring the gang to justice as a means to his freedom.

NOTE: Wattpad only has the revised chapters available to read, while AO3 has a blend of revised and original chapters (I'm working my way through all of the original chapters, little by little).
Reintroducing My Story Through Artwork:
The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars
After a detour with a shorter Ominis fanfic and a long period of time with writer's block, I've finally returned to rewrite my Sebastian x OC fic, The Sun, the Moon, and All My Stars. I'm posting a little about the story and my OC beforehand because it has been quite a while, and I think it would be pretty jarring to post a Chapter 23 rewrite out of the blue.
Seeing accompanying artwork is such a delight when I read fanfiction, so I made sure there was plenty for my own story through commissions. The wonderfully talented @giselsann has created so many pieces for me over the years, bringing an adult Sebastian Sallow and my OC, Kate Mayflower, to life. I cannot recommend working with her enough. So, I thought I would post a collage of some of her art for The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars here. This doesn't even cover all of it, so if you enjoy this artwork, please check out my story and you'll discover even more!
Quick summary:
Nine years after the events of Hogwarts Legacy, Sebastian Sallow has little hope for a positive future. Although he managed to escape a life sentence in Azkaban with the assistance of a terroristic organization of Dark wizards, the Ministry of Magic eventually caught up with Sebastian. A deal was struck: he would serve as a double-agent and bring the gang to justice as a means to his freedom.

Reintroducing My OC, Kate Mayflower: Her Hogwarts Documents
Here's some fun info about her in the form of Hogwarts documents. In my story, she's 24 and works there as the assistant librarian, but most character profiles and templates in the Hogwarts Legacy fandom are tailored to students, so... it is what it is, and a lot of the info is quite relevant anyway! I've posted these before, but it's been a looooooong time!
Please feel free to ask questions about Kate! I'll be posting more about her soon... and then I'll be moving forward with my chapter rewrites!
If you're interested in adult Kate's relationship with Sebastian Sallow, check out The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars! Here are links to Wattpad and AO3.

The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars - Finally, It's Back!
Hey, hey, hey - look who crawled her way out of a writing slump!
I paused my rewrites for quite a while, but I'm finished with a new chapter. Because it's been so long, I would like to re-introduce the story instead of immediately posting Chapter 23. It feels too jarring, and there are plenty of newcomers to the Hogwarts Legacy fandom.

So, what makes this story different?
It's 1899. The characters are in their mid-20s, and the setting isn't Hogwarts.
My OC is not the Hogwarts Legacy MC. She's not an ancient magic wielder.
Sebastian was in Azkaban for quite some time and has to contend with a great deal of trauma, self-loathing, and depression.
He will have a full circle moment - after everything he's learned, he will have to steer someone else away from the Dark Arts.
He's working as a double-agent for the DMLE, pretending to be a loyal member of a terroristic gang.
An exploration of past lives, reincarnation, soulmates
A tie to the canonical Albert Sallow who works in the Department of Mysteries in the 2010s
Reasons you might be interested...
Lots of fluffy romance!
Grumpy x Sunshine and size difference tropes
Slow burn? Not exactly. Sebastian's persistent.
I'm going to be real with you - there's a lot of smut in this story. If you're not a minor and into that, please... be my guest. đŤŚ
Sebastian's redemption
A very cottagecore, former Hufflepuff OC
If you've ever thought to yourself: You know what Sebastian needs? Just a loving, tender, sweet, understanding partner. (That's how my OC was born. Don't get me wrong, though - she challenges him and helps him grow.)
Happily Ever After!
Lots and lots of beautiful art by @giselsann (most of the cover art was created by her!)

I think I did it. I finally pushed past my writing slump of over half a year. Iâm ready to dive back into the revisions of my story, and hopefully I will catch up soon to write new chapters.
I havenât been very active in the fandom for a while, and it seems like some new people have joined in while I focused more on work and my personal life (being an auntie has kept me busy and brought me so much joy this summer!). I look forward to interacting more very soon! Iâll probably post a little about my story and OC before putting newly revised chapters out there.
Thanks for listening. Just had to put my little victory out there.
I'm assuming you're asking if she's coming back, and to be honest, I'm not sure. She contacted a friend and me recently to let us know she's alright, but she has had a lot going on in her personal life. I'm sure she would appreciate the concern and well wishes from those who enjoy her work.
As for True North, the story we were writing together, I'm not sure what its future holds, and it's devastating to realize it may simply remain unfinished. I've taken a step back from writing ever since, but lately, I've been starting to feel a stronger desire to get back into my own story (The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars). I don't want to make any promises, but... I hope my readers don't count me out of writing fanfic completely. I might eventually pen some new and revised chapters. Real life has kept me busy, but I still think about Sebastian and Ominis and Hogwarts Legacy all the time. Writing made me feel alive and as though I had purpose, and I'd love to experience that again.

In my previous Ominis Ă MC smut, the theme was their âfirst timeâ, so I couldnât really draw much of Ominis making his partner feel good, and that was something I regretted.
So Iâm very satisfied that I got to draw plenty of those scenes this time!
I actually wanted to include a scene where he uses Parseltongue during oral too, but I couldnât fit it into the story, so Iâd love to draw that in another comic someday đĽľ
(While making this comic, I studied many NSFW artists I respect to learn how they show both bodies, use shading, and draw SFX đââď¸
The more I learn, the more I realise how incredible those artists before me are!)

Finally, Ominis
@cassianicolevale your request is done.
I can tell my coloring of a naked male torso is getting better. The main thing is just not to forget how to draw clothes again...
I just binge-read The Sun, The Moon and all our stars on AO3. I loved it and was sad (nearly as close to devastation as you can be when you've stumbled onto a gem with no more to read) when I reached the end of the published chapters. I don't know if you're still writing, but I hope you continue it. Kate and Sebastian are very well balanced and I'm intrigued to see where it goes đđ
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad that people are still finding the story and enjoying it. I had so much fun writing it!
As far as updates, I took a bit of a detour with writing and collaborating on another fic, but I still plan to finish the story. About a month ago, I was feeling determined to get back to the rewrites, but then Pokopia came out, and I started playing it every free moment I had! đ Also, I'm a teacher in the process of creating an entirely new curriculum unit, and I foresee these last two months of the school year being absolutely insane as I navigate that. (Not to make excuses but more to explain why I haven't been working on it!)
If you've read the entire thing, maybe this will help give a timeline of where I'm at and when entirely new chapters will post. I am halfway through editing the chapter after Kate and Sebastian dance in Hogsmeade. My goal is to continue rewriting through their trip to the Highlands; after that, I will ACTUALLY continue the story with new chapters (after Kate tells her family about Sebastian). I promise there are exciting things to come (and of course, there will be a happy ending). I appreciate your patience, and thanks again for reaching out! These types of messages are encouraging! đđť

This fic began as a simple experiment: what if multiple authors collaborated on a single, unplanned fic? What followed was a collaborative process of unexpected turns, escalating nonsense, and wonderful fandom engagement.
This is the second of two fics. You can find the first one here. Thank you to everyone who wrote, cheered, and kept the momentum going. This project only exists because each of you took the baton and ran with it!
The original creator of this project is @writingsoftarnishedsilver. While I sincerely hope all is well, I have not heard from Tarnished Silver in months. She asked for me to be a helper to complete the project. I've received inquiries as to the completion of the project and decided to share it, as it has been finished and waiting for publication for some time. I feel fairly sure that Tarnished Silver would approve of me posting it. I tried to keep the same formatting for this post as she used for Fic A.
Major kudos is deserved by Jillian, @emotionlessnightmare, a contributor to the fic who volunteered to edit the entire thing! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
In his short years, Sebastian had read many books and skimmed through many more, but none were capable of engrossing him so quickly as Salazar Slytherinâs spellbook. A single glance at its cover was enough. Even closed, it felt enthralling, as if the writing of the man himself pressed through the leather, and Sebastian could almost sense the pull of it.
One of the founding fathers of Hogwarts.
His book was of the legendary status and was sought by everyone alive.
And now it was held by his weakening hands.
Old books such as this contained unfathomable wisdom, he was sure of it.
He waited a few long days before he was able to plop with it on the floor in the Undercroft. On the off minute he wasnât musing about what he was about to discover, he wondered if he should be doing this alone. Some tomes were dangerous, so dangerous in fact, that a presence of a teacher was required to even attempt a reading session. And some tomes were simply misunderstood and could bring only joy- and joy is meant to be shared.
But, with who?
Ominis hated the book â would disdain it once he recognised its potential!
MC found a similar book deep in the library â and did not share it with him!
It would be just Sebastian and the walls of the Undercroft â sole witnesses of the ancient wisdom!
Sebastian sighed and the book fell open to a random page as he placed it on his lap.
The parchment was ancient, heavy under his fingers, and yet stubbornly sturdy, though dry as bone, as if it had been waiting here for centuries. Thick, dark iron ink crawled across it in a language he barely recognized, familiar only in the shapes of its letters. There were smudges where a hand had dragged through the writing, and darker spatters of something long-faded in circular stains near the neat lines of initials that marked the ends and beginnings of passages. (Ancient pumpkin juice, aye?)
Text and imagery on previous and following pages looked the same. Nearly the same. No concise, pristine and short spells in sight.
Sebastian, chagrined but nevertheless deeply fascinated, opened the first page.
It is always like this with such books.
Wizards of the past used to write and write and just â interleave whenever they would run out of clean parchment only to write some few more pages of musings and preaching, intercepted by parts of spells. Sometimes a few pages long passage was the spell. Only the very old books were written in this fashion; Fig adored them, for whichever reason.
Sometimes, a spell was an entire ritual.
Sebastian feared anything like that could await him.
He was fascinated.
He caught himself thinking he was ready to replace all his schoolwork with this book.
Yet, he did not have time to remain enthralled.
He focused his gaze on a lavishly decorated opening page.
A whole menagerie of mythical beasts and creatures awoke as he looked at them.
They moved, frenziedly, within interconnected miniatures â like in tiny enclosures â that were lit with faint warmth of golden glow, as if the illustration had its own little Sun which, after centuries of waiting, came to shine within square environs at last.
Merfolk spooked the crow. The grey blanks stared, unfinished. A mischievous cat dropped from the top of the illustration onto a silver line so bright it looked newly laid. Where it landed, colour spread: a deep evening blue blooming across the parchment.
A knight from the left threw its headgear to the cat. That corner instantly tinted green, like it grew moss. The cat knocked it onto three maids sitting by the lake below, from which it had been kicked, with rich ochre following suit, the head landed on the turf of a large black dog.
It gave it a languid sniff. And then, escaping a forest environment, came a humongous boar.
As the remaining colourless part of the page turned blood red, outlines of landmasses came through as long squiggly lines outside the environs, roughly resembling Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English lands, placing each actor creature at what Sebastian assumed were more or less precise locales of homelands of each founder of Hogwarts.
No spells so far.
But that illustration â a truly magnificent work! â did it have any copies?
Had anybody else seen this?
A stray thought of eventually giving the book to Hogwarts library knocked at the back of Sebastianâs mind.
Not until he finds what he needs.
And not until he sees whatâs in MCâs book.
âWhereâs MC?â Sebastian asked after joining Ominis at the Slytherin table in the morning.
âHmm,â Ominis replied dryly, refilling his cup. âHow should I know?â
Sebastian scoffed and bitterly remarked, âSeemed to me like you two became awfully close yesterday.â He grabbed a piece of toast, spreading butter over it.Â
As Sebastian used his knife to slather strawberry jam on top, the blond took a long sip of tea, frowning. âWell, I canât imagine sheâd want to get closer to you after what you did to her yesterday.â
Even though no one was sitting near them, the brunetâs eyes glanced left and right, checking for eavesdroppers. He lowered his voice, spitting out, âYou know we didnât have a choice.â
âThereâs always a choice. And you chose wrong.â Ominisâs voice was unwavering and critical. âYou didnât even apologize to her afterwards.â
Sebastian chose not to respond. Instead, he scowled, biting into the toast.
Ominis didnât initiate any further conversation, quietly eating his porridge.
There was a roar of laughter across the hall, where Garreth Weasley was entertaining a handful of Gryffindors, telling a story accompanied by wild gestures. Sebastian rolled his eyes in disdain. He finished his toast, then loaded his plate with roasted potatoes, a scoop of baked beans, two fried eggs, baked cinnamon apple slices, and a blueberry scone.Â
After several wordless minutes, Sebastian finally asked, âYou know that special book MC has? Why do you suppose she keeps it so secret? I donât understand why she wonât tell me anything about it or at the very least just let me look at it.â
Ominis pondered it, then was short. âShe probably has a good reason. Why canât you accept that?â
âFine. I get it. Youâre mad,â Sebastian noted, annoyed. âIâll just shut up, I guess.â
Once again, Ominis didnât answer, silently peeling an orange.
Sebastian shoveled food into his mouth, then stood abruptly. âWhatever. See you later.â He snatched an orange himself, tucking it into his robes, and then stomped away, not waiting for his best friend to respond.
He considered returning to the Slytherin dorms to study more of the spellbook, but he decided he ought to find MC. The library was the first place he checked, but there was no sign of her there, so he headed to the Undercroft.
The dimly lit space was quiet and serene. As he stepped out of the elevator, he immediately spotted MC.Â
She had clearly used a transfiguration spell to create a couch, its cushions made of dark blue velvet. Her head laid against a matching pillow. Her long hair, normally kept in a braid that fell over her shoulder, was undone and wavy. Her lips were parted, and he could hear her snoring.Â
A smile tugged at Sebastianâs lips as he observed her, sound asleep.
She really was quite pretty.
It was endearing, though a bit strange, seeing MC in this state, when she was normally so serious, graceful, and put-together.
Her arm lay outstretched, off the couch entirely; on the floor, underneath her delicate hand, was a book. She had probably slipped into dreamland while readingâŚÂ
Wait.Â
A book?
No. Not just any book.
The book.
The one she always kept hidden.
He couldnât believe his luck â what an opportunity this was.
Sebastian crept closer, cautiously picking it up. His eyes were glued to MCâs face as he backed away slowly. When she didnât stir, he breathed a sigh of relief.Â
The cover was made of worn brown leather. He could tell that it was very, very old and required special care.Â
He delicately opened the tome, peering at the first page. The parchment was yellowed and blank. He flipped the page.
Blank.
Again, he turned the page â blank again.
What?
Sebastianâs eyes narrowed. Page after page â all blank.
âThis doesnât make any sense,â he whispered to himself.
He fished his aspen wand out of his robes. He peeked at MC; she was still in the same position with her eyes closed. He tapped the book and then cast âRevelio.â
Nothing happened.Â
Was this a prank? His brows furrowed. Or⌠perhaps it is charmed toâ
âWhat are you doing?âÂ
Sebastian froze as MCâs voice rang out.
âO-Oh, MC â y-youâreââ he stuttered.
âWhat are you doing?â she repeated, her voice even colder this time as she stared at the open book in his hands.Â
âIâ uh, it seems you fell asleep. I just got here,â he explained, trying to sound confident. âYouâ You dropped this book. I picked it up for you.â He hurried to her side, holding it out to her. âHere.â
MC stared at him for several seconds, not moving a muscle. Sebastian felt as though she could see right through him, and a flush came to his cheeks, knowing he had been caught â that she knew he was lying. Their eyes locked for a moment, and then he looked down to avoid eye contact.Â
No, you idiot, donât look at herâ
His breath caught when he realized that her collared shirt was unbuttoned at the top, and he could see a great deal of her skin. Whatâs more, there was an angry, red, lightning-shaped scar that began on her chest and disappeared under her top. It was freshâŚ
Hold on â Iâve seen a scar like this beforeâŚ
Ominisâs backâŚ
The truth hit him as MC took the book from his hands. The blood drained from his face.
He had done this. In the Scriptorium.
âMCâŚâ he began, his voice wavering. âThe reason Iâm here â t-the reason I was looking for you⌠is because I wanted to a-apologize. Iâm⌠so sorry for what happened yesterday.âÂ
Sitting up, she held the tome to her chest protectively. âSebastian, we had to cast the Cruciatus, and I consented to itâŚâ She sighed. âBut I will admit that I didnât particularly appreciate your behavior towards Ominis in general â or how you acted towards me after you did it.â She glanced away, her eyes glassy. âIt felt like you didnât care about me at all.â
âThatâs not true,â he murmured, feeling like a total dick. âI promise you â that isnât true in the least.â He considered what else there was to say, inhaling deeply. âI⌠didnât know what to do. It was⌠uncomfortable. I thought it might be best if I just got us out of there as fast as possible.âÂ
MC studied his face for a long time before speaking again. âI guess I can understand that. But⌠you need to apologize to Ominis.âÂ
He stared at his feet. âAlright... Iâll think about it.âÂ
When they maneuvered into the cramped elevator together, Sebastianâs mind was racing â but Ominis had nothing to do with it. He was still wondering about MCâs book. He had watched her read it, take notes, study its contents⌠The blank pages didnât make any sense. Maybe it was charmed for security reasonsâŚ
âSo, I have a meeting with Professor Fig,â she told him, touching his arm as they exited the Undercroft. âIâll see you at lunch later?â
âYeah, that sounds good. Take care.âÂ
MC nodded, then started to walk away. Sebastian remembered the orange he had taken from the Great Hall, and he reached out to stop her.
âHey, since you missed breakfast, I grabbed this for you.â He pulled the fruit from inside his robes and handed it to her.
MC stared at it for a long moment, then accepted it. âThank you, Seb.â She opened her arms to hug him in appreciation, and he turned pink.
After she wandered off, Sebastian noticed that a stray hair had ended up on his robes. He moved to pluck it off, then paused.
An idea struck him suddenly.
Polyjuice Potion.
Circumstances had it that Sebastian saw himself alone in the Undercroft that evening. Ominis whereabouts were the common room, making first years cry after convincing them that mermaids were carnivorous and every Halloween, their fins turned into legs and they came into the school searching for prey.
And what were the odds? Halloween night was tonight.Â
MC was somewhere in the Highlands, raiding poachersâ camps and making Goblins rethink their existence. Sebastian wouldâve offered her the pleasure of his company, but he was still holding on to that strand of hair she graciously left on his clothes. He yanked open cabinets and cupboards, searching for the vials with the potions he had brewed once upon a time, knowing that a day like today would come. He found the Polyjuice bottle in the back, the colour the most intense green he had ever seen, almost like troll vomit. But as Sebastian dropped MCâs hair in it, the potion became a beautiful pastel blue that smelled just like her: vanilla and horrible decisions.Â
Sebastian threw his head back, drinking the thick contents until he sensed a sharp pain in the middle of his navel. The vial fell on the ground, shattering into a dozen pieces, while he felt as if he was shattering into a hundred. The magic zapped through him, the change nearly instant after. The first thing he noticed was the matter of the⌠well.Â
Let it be said that Sebastian Sallow was a gentleman, first and foremost. So he would never look at a womanâs breasts without permission. The problem was, these breasts were Sebastianâs â technically.Â
âMC is going to have my balls, as soon as I grow them back,â he thought to himself.
With that threat hovering over head â and his balls â Sebastian left the Undercroft with one destination in mind. The book he was so desperate to read had to be in The Room of Requirement, where MC had taken residency when she wasnât terrorizing the magical community, because surely she would never bring it with her. In there, she had stuffed all of her multicolored outfits and trafficked animals. He couldnât be sure she wasnât a poacher herself with the amount of vivariums she had conjured; she even had bloody chickens in one of them. Not that he complained. The days where he woke up late and missed breakfasts, she made him fried eggs.
On the way to the seventh floor, he saw Everett Clopton carrying a pile of books bigger than his head. The Ravenclaw seemed to be struggling to open the door into a classroom, and their eyes met while Sebastian purposely strode through the corridor.
âHey, MC.â Clopton panted. âCould you get the doorknob for me?âÂ
Sebastian made a grimace. âNo.â
Clopton seemed irate, his body shifting to face Sebastian, who didnât stop walking. âRude. Did you sit on the wrong side of a broomstick today?â
âYeah, on your motherâs side.â
Sebastian threw over his shoulder without dignifying the Ravenclaw with a stare, before hurrying up the stairs. When he reached the empty wall, the door into the Room of Requirements was already open for him. A notable change from the fact that most days, Sebastian had to beg to come in â no pun intended.
âIs this what it feels like to be a celebrity?â, he thought to himself.
However, when he marched inside the chamber, he found something he didnât see every day: Deek was weeping a river, a book held in his tiny hands. The book Sebastian had wanted to study. Alarmed, he ran to the elf.
âWhat has happened?â He asked, staring awkwardly at the way Deek used his rags to wipe away tears. Sebastian patted the top of his head.
âM-missâŚâ The elf cried, offering the book to him with a shaky pulse. âMiss told me not to read the book, and Deek did. Deek was curious about it.â
âYou did?â Sebastian said with eagerness, remembering who he was supposed to be. So he cleared his throat and tried again, accepting the old tome. âBad Deek.â
âDeek must punish himself.â
âLater, later⌠First tell me what you found in there that is making you so upset.â
The elf sniffled so hard, he nearly choked. âDeek read some sort of spell off one of the pages, out loud. Deek didnât realize what it was until Deek looked outside of the window, and saw them coming towards the castle.â
âSaw what?â
âThe zombies.â Deek hid his face in his hands, weeping again. âDeek has raised the zombie apocalypse.â
Letâs just say that Sebastian was in a panic.
He was inside the body of the girl who he fancied, and said girl's house elf friend had opened the very book he wanted to read. Now there were zombies marching on towards the castle. It was turning into an eventful Halloween afterall. Where was MC when Hogwarts needed her most?
Grabbing the book from Deekâs hands, Sebastian set it aside as he sat in front of the sobbing house elf. He needed answers. âFocus. How were you able to read the book?â That sounded like something MC would say in this kind of situation. Right? But it only made Deek sob harder, his wails echoing through the ROR. Sebastian groaned. This was no help at all. âDeek, please, I canât fix this if you donât answer my questions.â At last, something had managed to elicit a response.
âDeek has heard Miss whisper a password before opening the book. Deek is sorry for eavesdropping and going against Missâ wishes!â A password? Of course, how could he be so stupid? Of course MC would have a super secret password to a super secret book, with a spell to raise bloody undead. Deek sobbed again and began to run away in shame. âWait, Deek? Whatâs the-â But it was too late, Deek had disappeared. â...Password. Well, shit.â Hogwarts was screwed.
No scratch that, Sebastian was screwed.Â
Not only did he have a zombie problem to deal with, he would have to deal with a furious MC. Heâd be better off trying and failing to not get turned into a zombie. No one survived when the fifth year had set her rage on you. âKill me now,â Sebastian thought, âkill me now.â Well he better get started on trying to stop a zombie apocalypse. And see if he can find a way to do it before MC gets back to see what happened. The last thing Deek needed was the fury and rage of the girl.
Welp, the zombie apocalypse in fact, was not a zombie apocalypse at all.Â
Sebastian had learned that the hard way as he was flying over the hoard. They werenât deathly pale or rotting. No, it was far different. They were past the point of rot, with black skin and bugs crawling over them.
They were Inferi. It was a hoard of bloody Inferi.
Sebastian supposed this might be better than zombies. Inferi were easier to deal with than zombies, and way less contagious. And all he had to do was set them on fire, without starting a forest fire. That would be the hardest part. But he would for sure need MC to help with this one. Sebastian groaned at the thought. How was he even going to explain this without pissing her off. âHey MC, you know that book of yours that you never let anyone read let alone touch? Yeah your house elf friend did and now thereâs a hoard of Inferi heading toward the castle. Up for another adventure with possible death? -Your Very Charming Friend Who Is Very Sorry, Sebastianâ wasnât exactly a casual thing to say. Even in his charming voice that MC somehow never grew tired of.
But so be it. Sebastian loved Hogwarts, the only home he was welcome in, and he would do anything to protect it. Even if it meant invoking the wrath of the most powerful student in his year on a house elf. Heâd let the guilt and shame wallow later. He had a letter to send. And hopefully a form to wear off before MC arrived in a huff.
âHE WHAT?!âÂ
See, that is the voice of a scary woman. A rightfully angry woman whose belongings had been looked through, and summoned a hoard of Inferi. Sebastian couldnât talk though, he had been the one to plan to read her book while she was away.
MC had come flying on the back of a Hippogriff, her hair ruffled and her clothes covered in bits of blood. She had clearly had some âfunâ in the Highlands. As soon as Sebastian laid eyes on her, he knew that poor Deek would be lucky to survive the stern talking he was in for. As he explained the situation to her in full, MCâs expression had morphed from fury to just plain old wrath.Â
âSo yeah, I thought itâd be best if you helped me do this.â Sebastian finished, grimacing as she sighed heavily. Hopping off the Hippogriff and putting it in a magical bag, she paced around in thought. Then she finally spoke. âDo you have my book with you? I need it.â Sebastian was confused at her sudden calm. And how the hell could her book help them burn all the Inferi? âWhat are you going to do, unraise the dead?â It was a sarcastic question, but MC just stared him down.
âYes.â
Sebastian could only stare at her in mild disbelief as she looked at him with a completely serious expression on her face. Then she rolled her eyes and sighed.
âNo, of course I donât intend to unraise them. Itâs impossible, and you would know this if you spent more time studying than casting Crucio on your friends.â
She was still pissed at him about the Scriptorium escapade (not that Sebastian could blame her). But there were more pressing matters than her being hurt and Sebastian being guilty (well⌠adding this to his long list of things he felt guilty about).
âThen what? And why do you need the book?â he demanded, and she shot him a glare.
âWhat kills Inferi, Sebastian?â
âFire.âÂ
âTen points to Slytherin,â she said sarcastically. âAnd what is the most powerful fire spell?â
âConfringo,â his reply was just as quick. She shook her head, and Sebastian felt his heart sink somewhere to his stomach.
âNo. No fucking way, MC. You are not going to cast Fiendfyre!â
âYou have better ideas?â
Actually, Sebastian had plenty of better ideas. Flee to America and start a new life. Turn himself and MC into Inferi to join the marching horde. Snog (or more) with MC in the pre-apocalypse âweâre all going to dieâ desperation. Pretty much any idea was better than her casting Fiendfyre.
But it didnât seem to interest her in the slightest, because the next second, she yanked the book from his hands and started violently flipping through the pages.
âNot this, not that⌠Oh. Here it is. The incantation isâŚâ she looked at Sebastian with suspicion. âNever mind.â
He almost growled at this. Seriously? She wasnât trusting him with the incantation? As if things could possibly go more wrong.
Without sparing as much as a glance, she put her book away in her robes, got the Hippogriff from her enchanted bag (who in Merlinâs name is walking around carrying a bloody magical zoo in their bag?), and was gone, leaving Sebastian with nothing but to watch her fly away.
Sebastian wisely decided that there was nothing he could do at this point, so he found the best watching spot (Astronomy Tower), uncorked a bottle of Firewhisky, and just watched. He couldnât see the Inferi from here, but he sure as hell could see the fire when it started. A giant-arse fire ring encircled Hogwarts, undoubtedly burning every single Inferius down. Sebastian was surprised by the tranquillity he felt at this moment. He knew how dangerous Fiendfyre could be; he knew that it was probably powerful enough to burn down Hogwarts and the Highlands should MC lose control, but it strangely didnât bother him. Dying in a fire was preferable to dying to Inferi, if he had to choose. Especially in the fire created by MC.
He regretted many things in his life. Not spending every waking second with his parents when they were both alive. Not stopping them from going to the cellar on the day they died. Casting Crucio on MC. And, most of all, at this moment â never telling her how he felt.
That, for him, she was the Fiendfyre â fierce and relentless and all-consuming. Because from the moment he landed on his back in DADA class, his thoughts had been occupied by nothing but her. That he was morbidly curious about what her peculiar book meant, and about all the other secrets she kept from him, but truth be told, it didnât bother him much. Even if she ended up being Ranrokâs double agent, or an Ashwinder in disguise, or, hell, even a Ministry-assigned assassin tasked with clearing up the Highlands â it didnât matter. Because she was her, MC, and this was the only thing that mattered to Sebastian.
The fire started to die out slowly. Sebastian smiled to himself. The witch was powerful â just the way he liked it. If he were completely honest, the thought that she was even more powerful than him was slightly arousing. Only slightly, of course â he was not weird. But it wasnât what he wanted most from her. The thing he wanted most was for her to trust him, accept him, and⌠and love him.
Sebastian took another sip from the bottle and took the Floo to the Hogwarts gates. He expected MC to arrive shortly, and he fully intended to talk to her about his feelings. After all, they survived an Inferi invasion and a Fiendfyre today â so could this talk really get things any worse?
It turned out that yes, it could in fact make things much worse.Â
MC appeared in front of him, a smear of smoot on her check, but otherwise looking as though she did nothing more strenuous than going for a light run.
âThe inferi are all gone, I assume?â Sebastian asked, more as an acknowledgment of her arrival. He knew she was careful and would not have left if she was not confident they were eradicated.
MC huffed. âOf course I did.â Suddenly her face morphed from annoyance to anger. âAnd now that I am done fixing Deekâs mistake, letâs talk about yours.â
Fear spiked in him. He had thought that he was getting away with his own mischief after she barely said anything earlier, choosing instead to focus on the very dangerous problem of inferi.Â
Between the drunken haze from imbibing Firewhiskey and his odd attraction when she was being âbossyâ, he found himself word-vomiting a mix of nonsense and the truth.
âI hate mysteries and that book of yours was so enticing that I had to know what was in it. Of course, you are also enticing. Youâre so hot when youâre angry and powerful. And what else was I supposed to do but drink Polyjuice potion to pretend to be you when -â
MC had her wand against his chest. âWhat did you say?â she whispered dangerously.Â
âUh,â his mind went blank. He was not even sure what he revealed her to just now, but he was pretty sure he told her she was hot. âAre you angry that I have feelings for you?â he pouted.
MCâs eye started twitching; a dangerous sign indeed. âWhy did you drink Polyjuice potion to become me?â
OhâŚrightâŚ. He did reveal that. Oops.
âI needed to look like you in order for your book to let me read it,â he gulped. The wand was still against his throat.
MC dropped her arm and stared at the ceiling as though it would somehow explain the inner workings on Sebastianâs mind.
âAnd did it perhaps ever occur to you to ask me about the book instead of crossing an insane boundary and stealing my body?!â Her voice reached a high pitch that only dogs could hear by the end.
Wincing slightly, he tried to find some way to explain it in a way that wouldn't sound creepy.
The long silence, unfortunately, made it worse. She let out a disgusted gasp. âYou didn't do it because you claim to like me, surely?â
His jaw fell open. The audacity of this woman! To both insult his gentlemanly intentions and to insinuate he didn't like her was a bridge too far.
âWell I did like you. But perhaps now I donât after that rude comment,â he crossed his arms.
The eye twitch returned. âI canât handle you tonight. Iâm going to wait until tomorrow when you are less drunk to find out the truth.â
That was fine by Sebastian. The floor was swaying a bit too much for him at this point and really, all he wanted to do was sit on the ground.
And that was what he did, until MC returned (when had she even left?) with Ominis by her side.
Together they hoisted him up and began the long journey to the Slytherin common room.
âMC! MC! Wait!â a voice came from behind them.
MC twirled around so fast that it caused the duo to drop Sebastian on the ground. He let out a little moan of pain which MC ignored.
âThank goodness I found you!"Â
The voice was entirely too cheerful for the situation at hand. Sebastian cracked an eye open, and through the haze of firewhisky (and mild pain), he caught a pair of boots with Gryffindor-red trim skid to a halt.
Of course.Â
âMC! AhâPerfect!â Garreth proclaimed, his satchel clinking with the sound of what Sebastian could only assume was poor judgement, bottled and sealed for distribution. The red head seemed utterly, blissfully unaware of the tableau before him: MC, vibrating with rage so potent it was practically visible; Ominis, who looked ready to compose a sonnet about his own suffering; and Sebastian, currently attempting to merge with the castleâs foundation.
âI've done it!â Garreth continued, catching his breath. âFinally cracked the formula.â
MC, who had spun on her heel so fast Sebastian half expected her to start casting, lowered her shoulders slowly. The twitch in her left eye, however, remained. âCracked what, Weasley? I wasâŚbusy.â
âOh, that Inferi thing? Heard about it on the way down, brilliant stuff!â Garreth waved a dismissive hand as if the undead horde was only a minor inconvenience. âNo, no, no, this is much better, much bigger. I've stabilized the Explosive-Mint-Tonic!âÂ
She stared at him with a look that said you've got to be freaking kidding me.
âIt's a beverage, you see, but it also doubles as aââ
âGarreth.â Ominis cut it, his voice as flat and cold as the floor Sebastian was still on. âWe are occupied.â
âOh,â Garreth said, finally noticing Sebastian. âRight. Hullo, Sallow. Fancied a kip on the flagstones? Can't say I recommend it, bit of a draft this time of night.â
Sebastian made a noise that sounded like half burp, half word. âWeasleyâŚgoâŚâway.âÂ
âHe's drunk.â MC said plainly, her voice void of all emotion. Sebastian, despite his state, found it was more terrifying than her earlier yelling.
âDrunk?! Brilliant!â Garreth started rummaging through the satchel, loudly pushing around vials. â That's even better, your inhibitions are lowered! You'll be the perfect unbiased tester!â
Before anyone could protestânot that Sebastian was in any state toâGarreth had produced a small corked vial filled with liquid that pulsed a rather sickly orange shade.
âNow, the last batch made Cloptonâs tongue swell to the size of a bludger, but I am 99% sure I've fixed that,â Garreth said cheerfully as he thrust the vial at MC.
âOminis,â she spoke quietly, staring at the tiny bottle glowing in her palms. âGet him up. Now.â
âWith pleasure.â Ominis, sounding anything but pleased, grabbed one of Sebastianâs arms and hauled him to his feet, making the latterâs world cartwheel.
His knees buckled and he found himself lurching forward, only to be caught by MC who grabbed his robes to keep him from face planting.
He was painfully aware of how close he was to her. He could smell the ozone and the smoke from the Fiendfyre on her robes, mixed with wisps of vanilla. His brain, though thoroughly pickled in alcohol, bypassed all common sense.
âYou smellâŚâ he slurred, beaming at her as he grabbed her. â...like a bonfire. A reeeaaaally enticing bonfire.â
The eye twitch came back.
âIf you don't let go of my robes, Sebastian,â she whispered, âI will use Garrethâs potion to glue your hands to the ceiling.â
âOooh, kinky,â Sebastian mumbled, just before Ominis yanked him backward by his shirt collar. âGAH gentle! Iâm a delicate flower!âÂ
âYou're a drunken idiot.â Ominis snapped, propping him up. âAnd you,â he said, turning his gaze in Garrethâs direction, âan interruption.â Garreth somehow still missed the entire forest of tension for the trees; capping his potion he lifted a hand to scratch the back of his head.Â
âWell, I can see you're all busy. I'll just... go find Professor Sharp! He's always up for an adventure.â
The three wordlessly watched him trot away, whistling to himself. A profound, heavy silence descended, broken only by Sebastian's hiccup.
MC sighed, her foot tapping an exasperated rhythm. Her anger seemed to have cooled, but in its place was a glacial exhaustion. âJust get him to bed. Please.â She glanced at Sebastian, swaying in Ominisâs grip. âI can't look at him right now,â
âAnd tomorrow?â Ominis asked.
She paused briefly, pulling conviction from the depths of her soul. "Tomorrow," MC said, her eyes locking onto Sebastian's, "he's going to be sober. And he is going to explain- in very small, simple words- why he thought it was acceptable to brew Polyjuice Potion with my hair.â
She didn't wait for an answer, stalking off towards the staircase, her loose, lopsided brain swinging behind her.
Sebastian leaned back on Ominis, a fuzzy feeling spreading that wasn't solely the lingering warmth from the Firewhisky. âShe's ⌠she's so passionate.â
Ominis let out a long groan and began the arduous process of dragging his friend through the dungeons and to the Slytherin common room.
"You are, without a doubt, the stupidest, clever man I have ever known," Ominis muttered, navigating Sebastian around a suit of armor. "But Ominis," Sebastian whispered, leaning his head, "I think she likes me.â
âShe literally threatened to glue you to the ceiling, Sebastian.â
âEXACTLY! Banter!â
"You're sleeping in the armchair outside," Ominis declared, as they finally reached the entrance to the common room. "I am not listening to you snoring, and I am certainly not cleaning up your sickness when the firewhisky decides to make a reappearance.â
"Fine by me," Sebastian murmured, already half-asleep on his feet.Â
Sebastian sank into the armchair like it was made of Devilâs Snare trying to swallow him. In his inebriated state, he could hear the shuffle of Ominisâ feet as he stepped away. He was still cursing him under his breath.
âForcing your blind mate to carry your drunk ass back to the dungeons is a new low, even for you, Sallow.â
âYou can see just fine,â Sebastian grumbled. âOnly fell three times.â
âBecause you kept grabbing at my wand and throwing off my navigation charm. It answers to me, not you,â Ominis fired back with a heavy sigh. âIf MC manages to forgive you for this, youâre going to owe her. Big time.â
Sebastian waved his hand lazily and smiled at the mention of her name. âSheâll forgive me,â he said with too much confidence. âI didnât look at anything. Wanted to, though. Books were more important than breasts in the moment, you know.â
âYou really need to shut up, Sallow,â Ominis ran his fingers through his hair and his cloudy blue gaze drifted up towards the ceiling, towards the sound of hundreds of students in the midst of both celebrating Halloween, and spreading gossip about the ring of fire that had erupted in the highlands too close to the castle.
âMC will forgive me,â Sebastian repeated firmly, still slurring his words.Â
Ominis pressed his lips together into a thin line, because despite Sebastianâs arrogance knowing no bounds, he knew that he was right. MC would forgive him, but she would also make him work for that forgiveness. And that was something he could work with.Â
Ominis hovered another second, as if he was debating whether to hex Sebastian into unconsciousness for everyoneâs peace.
âMC will forgive you,â he confirmed finally, too softly to be kind. âBut that doesnât mean you deserve it.Â
Before Sebastian could reply, Ominis turned on his heel and walked away towards the dormitories, the echo of his footsteps swallowed by the dungeons.
Sebastian sagged deeper into the armchair, the common room tilting gently as if Hogwarts itself had taken a sip of firewhisky. Above, the castle roared with Halloween. Down here, it sounded like judgement disguised as laughter. He told himself he hadnât looked. He told himself he hadnât meant it like that. He told himself a lot of things.
And then the air changed.
Sebastian blinked, lifting his head. MC stood a few paces away, soot streaked across her cheek, robes singed at the hem. She held something against her side.
The book. Not hidden. Not protected. And not blank and harmless.
âHi,â he tried.
She didnât answer. She just said, very evenly, âI went back.â
His stomach rolled. âTo the Room of Requirement?â
âTo clean up your mess,â she continued, and stepped closer. âAnd to make sure Deek didn't punish himself into an early grave.â
She lowered her gaze to him, pinning, precise. âAlso because ⌠my book isnât the same anymore.â
Sebastian swallowed. âWhat do you mean it-â
She brought it into the green light and set it down hard on the arm of his chair. The sound was a dull thud, like something older than paper and leather should be.Â
âIt wrote something,â she said coldly. âAll by itself. After you⌠after you said what you said.â
Sebastian stared at the cover as if it might bite. âMC-â
âOpen it. Now,â she ordered.
And before he could decide whether fear or curiosity would win, a mild voice behind them said, âMr Sallow? MC?â
Sebastianâs blood went cold.
The voice was mild. That was the problem.
Professor Fig stepped into the green-tinged corridor as if heâd simply been out for a quiet stroll, hands folded neatly behind his back. His eyes moved once, slow and thorough, taking inventory of the scene with the calm precision of a man who had seen far too much to be surprised by anything within the castle walls.
MC, singed and soot-smudged, standing like a drawn blade. Sebastian, slumped in an armchair like a poor decision. And the book on the armrest, old leather catching the dungeon light as if it enjoyed attention.
âOut late,â Fig said pleasantly. âOn Halloween, no less.â
Sebastian tried to swallow and discovered his throat had turned to parchment. âProfessor,â he managed.
MC didnât speak. If she was holding herself back, it wasnât with effort. It was with discipline.
Professor Figâs gaze drifted, landing on the book again. His expression remained gentle, but something sharpened behind his eyes. âThat is not standard issue reading material,â he observed.
âItâs mine,â MC said, voice even. Not defensive, just factual, like she was stating the weather.
Fig gave a small, thoughtful hum. He stepped closer, and Sebastianâs stomach dipped as though the corridor had grown a slope. Professor Figâs attention moved from MCâs singed hems to Sebastianâs flushed face, and then to the faint smear of ash still lingering in the folds of MCâs robes.
âMC,â Fig said, and it was the smallest change in tone that made Sebastianâs spine itch. âThere was a ring of cursed fire near Hogwarts tonight.â
MCâs jaw tightened. âThe castle is intact.â
âThat wasnât my question.â
Sebastian opened his mouth to interject something helpful, charming, entirely false, and only managed: âIt was⌠contained.â
The Professor's eyes flicked to him. âMr Sallow,â he said lightly, âyou smell like youâve been contained in a bottle of firewhisky.â
Sebastianâs cheeks heated. âJust⌠celebrating, sir. Halloween and all that.â
âMm.â Professor Figâs gaze returned to the book. âInferi were reported near the grounds.â
Silence.
The castle above them seemed suddenly louder. A cackle echoed down a stairwell. Someone yelled âBoo!â and another voice shrieked with delighted terror. It all felt grotesquely inappropriate.
Professor Figâs attention lingered on the bookâs clasp, and Sebastian could swear he saw it glimmer, like a catâs eye catching torchlight.
âWould you mind,â Fig said gently, âhanding me the book?â
MC didnât move.
Sebastian felt the air in his lungs turn to cold soup. He could feel MCâs control beside him like pressure in the walls. She was deciding. Weighing. Calculating what Fig could take from her if he got his hands on it.
Fig waited, patient as stone.
Then, without anyone touching it, the book made a sound.
A soft, dry click.
Sebastianâs eyes snapped to it. The clasp, which had been resting shut, unlatched itself with a deliberate little motion, like a lock deciding it had had enough of secrecy.
MCâs gaze sharpened. âThatâs notâŚâ
The cover lifted on its own accord.
Sebastian didnât move. He didnât breathe. The firewhisky haze in his skull cleared in one cruel swipe of adrenaline.
Pages began to turn.
Not fluttering, not accidental, but with purpose, each heavy sheet dragging against the next like a tongue tasting the air. Ink gleamed on the parchment, wet-looking despite the centuries, and Sebastianâs stomach dropped with the certainty that it had not been there seconds ago.
Professor Figâs eyebrows rose, the first visible crack in his calm. âNow that,â he said quietly, âis highly unusual.â
MCâs fingers twitched, as if she was restraining the instinct to snap it closed again. Sebastian saw it, the moment she nearly moved and chose not to.
The pages stopped. The parchment was blank for half a heartbeat. Then ink bled across it. Not written by a hand, not scratched by quill, but seeping into place from nothing, letter by letter, as if the page was remembering something it had always known.
Sebastianâs mouth went dry.
A single word formed slowly, luxuriously, like the book wanted everyone present to watch.
THIEF.
Sebastianâs heart lurched.
Underneath, a new line unfurled, darker, as if the ink had thickened with spite.
THE THIEF WORE HER FACE.
MCâs breath hitched once. It was the only sign she gave that the words had landed like a slap.
Professor Figâs gaze moved, very slowly, from the page to Sebastian.
Sebastian felt suddenly, violently sober.
âThatâsâŚâ Sebastian croaked, then stopped. There was nothing useful to say. Nothing that wasnât going to detonate.
The book turned its own page again.
Blank.
Then, with the inevitability of a verdict, new ink slid into place.
Sebastian stared, pulse thundering in his ears. The letters trembled once, and then shifted, the final line rewriting itself in a quick, sharp motion that made his skin prickle.
SEBASTIAN SALLOW.
His stomach dropped so hard he thought he might actually be sick.
MCâs head turned slowly toward him, and for the first time since sheâd arrived, her calm broke. Not into anger. Into something colder.
Professor Fig inhaled, and the sound was quiet but decisive. âMr. Sallow,â he said, mildness thinning into steel, âI am going to ask you, very plainly, what you have done.â
Sebastianâs hands were suddenly too heavy. The book sat there, open and smug, like it had just introduced him to the world.
MCâs voice was razor-flat. âProfessor Fig,â she said carefully, âthis isnât the place.â
Fig didnât look away from Sebastian. âOn the contrary, it is precisely the place, Iâm afraid. Because that book has just marked him.â
Sebastianâs tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth. He could feel MCâs gaze on the side of his face like heat. He could feel Professor Figâs expectation like a wand pointed at his throat.
And somewhere in the castle above, someone cheered, oblivious.
Professor Fig took a step forward and held out his hand, palm up.
âHand me the book MC,â he said softly. âNow.â
The clasp snapped shut.
A pulse of cold magic rolled out from it like a breath.
Sebastian watched, horrified, as the leather cover darkened beneath his fingertips with a faint new imprint, as if something had pressed from the inside.
âWhat do you mean, it marked him?â MC asked, her voice lifting at the end despite her attempt at control. She had seen too much danger to assume anything but the worst.
Professor Fig regarded the book with open fascination, a faint, almost indulgent smile curving one corner of his mouth. âThis, my rather foolish students,â he said mildly, âis known as the Book of Requirement. Some call it the Book of Many Things. Others, more whimsically, the Come-and-Go Book.â
MC and Sebastian exchanged a look before turning back to him.
âYou meanâŚâ MC ventured, brow furrowing, âlike the Room of Requirement?â
Fig inclined his head. âThe names appear to spring from the same source. No one can say who created either, or whether Hogwarts itself conceived them both. The castle has always had a talent for responding to need.â His smile softened further, touched with something like nostalgia. âBut this book has a story of its own.â
Sebastian and MC waited, increasingly bewildered, but Professor Fig had fallen silent, his gaze lingering on the worn leather cover as though it were an old friend. For a moment, it seemed he had forgotten them entirely.
âEh⌠Professor?â Sebastian prompted gently. âThe story?â
Fig blinked, as if returning from a great distance. His eyes cleared, though the warmth remained. âAh. Yes. Forgive me.â He hesitated, then said, âIt is said that Helena Ravenclaw enchanted this book herself after growing tired of being relentlessly pestered by one of her fellow students.â
His voice drifted again, quieter now. âI came into possession of it many years ago. Found it tucked away in the Hogwarts library shortly after Miriam and I began courting. I was a coward then,â he admitted softly. âToo afraid to speak my heart aloud. But this bookâŚâ His smile turned rueful. âIt helped me find the courage I lacked.â
Sebastian and MC exchanged another glance, both utterly lost as to how this sentimental recollection explained the bookâs sudden fixation on Sebastian.
âIt is called the Book of Requirement,â Fig continued, his tone sharpening into that of the scholar once more, âbecause when a witch or wizard is truly in need of something, it appears and offers what is required to bring that need to fruition. Tell me, MC,â he asked, keen-eyed now, âwhat did it show you?â
âSpells,â she answered without hesitation. âDozens of them. Some⌠uncommon.â Her gaze flicked briefly to Sebastian. âThatâs why I placed a password on it. In case someone tried to steal it.â
Professor Fig chuckled. âIt would not have shown Mr. Sallow the same things regardless.â
Sebastian scrubbed a hand through his hair. âThen how did it help Deek unleash an army of Inferi on us?â he asked. âBecause Iâm fairly certain that wasnât anyoneâs need.â
âI fear I have no satisfying answer for that,â Fig said apologetically. âThough,â he added, eyeing MCâs singed robes and soot-streaked cuffs, âjudging by your current state, it seems the book also provided the means to end the crisis.â
She flushed scarlet. Sebastian, despite everything, couldnât help thinking how striking she looked like this, battle-worn and incandescent.
That was when the book shuddered in Professor Figâs hands, its pages rattling as though stirred by some unseen breath. He hesitated only a moment before extending it toward Sebastian.
âIt appears that since it has now imprinted upon you, Mr. Sallow, it desires something in return,â Fig said gently. âWhen it was mine, it demanded honesty. Perhaps it seeks something similar from you.â His smile was kind, but knowing. âI suggest you both find somewhere quiet and open it together.â
And with that, he turned and walked away, leaving no space for further questions.
They did not speak as they walked. MC led the way up the familiar seventh-floor passage, Sebastian followed half a pace behind, the weight of the book tucked under his arm feeling heavier with every footstep, as though it were learning him.
They passed the blank stretch of wall at the end of the Astronomy Tower once, and the Room of Requirement welcomed them. MC had thought it only fitting to open the Book of Requirement within its namesake chamber.
And at the center of it stood Deek.
The house-elf wrung his long fingers together, ears drooping low, eyes glassy with guilt. âMiss - Deek is so, so sorry,â he babbled the moment he saw them. âDeek did not mean to bring doom upon Hogwarts. Deek would never -â
âDeek,â MC said gently, and the room itself seemed to soften at her tone. âYou didnât.â
He sniffed hard. âDeek should have listened. Miss said not to read the book, and Deek read it.â
Sebastian shifted, the leather cover pressing warm against his ribs. âDeek,â he said, quieter now, âwhen you opened it⌠what were you thinking?â
The elf froze. His eyes flicked up, unfocused at first, as though he were peering backward through memory. âDeek was bored,â he admitted softly. âVery bored.â
âDeek had just finished watching a moving picture with the other house-elves in the kitchens,â he continued. âA muggle film. Very frightening. Very exciting. There were dead people, but they walked, and everyone screamed.â
Sebastian frowned. âThat sounds⌠deeply unsettling.â
âYes!â Deek nodded enthusiastically. âIt was called⌠Night of the⌠Living⌠Something. Deek cannot quite remember.â His ears perked briefly before drooping again. âBut when Deek saw the book, Deek thought⌠Deek thought how dull his life had been. Same polishing. Same cleaning.â
His voice lowered, almost ashamed. âDeek thought⌠it was Halloween. Deek wanted something exciting to happen.â
MC and Sebastian exchanged a look.
Need, the book had said.
MC inhaled slowly, then smiled, soft but resolute. âThank you for telling us, Deek.â
He brightened at once, hope flickering. âDeek can help fix it! Deek can punish himself properly -â
âNo,â she said firmly. âYouâve done enough.â She hesitated, then added, âCould you give us some privacy for a little while?â
Deek bowed so deeply his forehead nearly brushed the floor. âOf course, Miss.â He glanced once more at the book, then vanished with a soft crack, leaving the room hushed in his absence.
MC exhaled. They crossed the chamber together and sat at one of the enchanted tables. Its surface rearranged itself beneath their hands, smoothing, steadying, as if it, too, were preparing.
Sebastian broke the silence first. âSo,â he said carefully, âthe book doesnât care who opens it. It cares why.â
MC nodded. âIt answers the need. Desire. Want.â Her fingers hovered just above the cover, not touching. âDeek wanted excitement. I wanted knowledge.â Her gaze lifted, meeting Sebastianâs. âYou wanted answers.â
Sebastian swallowed. âI wanted⌠more than that.â
The book gave a faint, resonant tremor - quiet, expectant, as though it had learned patience long before either of them had learned restraint.
MC was the first to touch it. Her palm rested atop the worn leather with care, not reverence. âProfessor Fig said it wants something from you now.â
Sebastian hesitated, then placed his hand beside hers. The contact steadied him more than he cared to admit.
He opened the book.
Ink surfaced across the page, spreading with unhurried certainty.
HELLO, THIEF
Sebastian winced. âRight,â he muttered. âThat seems earned.â
MCâs lips curved faintly, though her attention never wavered from the page.
âWhat do you want?â Sebastian asked. His voice held, even if his nerves did not. He had faced goblins, Inferi, and magic older than the castleâs stones, but this felt different. This felt personal.
The letters shifted, reforming with elegant precision.
TRUTH
Sebastianâs throat tightened. He turned to MC.
âIâm sorry,â he said. The words emerged low and unembellished. âI wanted to look at the book. I shouldnât have. I knew better.â
She did not respond, but she stayed.
âI used Polyjuice,â he continued, color rising in his face. âBut I didnât look. At you. Even though it was technically my body at the time. Transfigured.â His mouth twisted. âI swear I tried to behave like a gentleman.â
MC leveled him with a look sharp enough to wound.
He hurried on, words tumbling over each other. âI just - after the Scriptorium, after what I did to you - I felt shut out. Like Iâd crossed a line I couldnât uncross. And instead of doing the sensible thing and talking to you, I did something stupid and invasive and - â He exhaled sharply. âI regret casting the curse on you. Every day. I regret it more than I can explain.â
The bookâs page rippled once. New words appeared.
GOODONE LAST TRUTH REMAINS
Sebastian frowned. âI donât understand,â he said. âI donât know what you want from me.â
MC didnât glance at the book. She studied him instead.
âWhat did you mean,â she asked, her voice measured, âwhen you spoke to me last night?â
Heat flooded his face. âI donât remember.â
The book answered instead.
LIAR
Sebastian stiffened. For a fleeting instant, he considered deflection - humor, indignation, anything easier. Then he abandoned the thought entirely.
âI like you,â he said.
The words felt insufficient for their weight, but they were the truth.
âI have since the first day you walked into Hogwarts like it was daring you to keep up,â he continued. âLike you were going to tear the world apart and rebuild it better. You became⌠the reason I made it through this year. The reason I tried to be better.â He laughed once, breathless. His voice softened. âThe reason I still am.â
He fell silent.
MC watched him, her expression unreadable.
They both looked to the book.
Nothing changed. No new words formed. No judgment followed.
The silence felt intentional. Complete.
MC spoke at last. âI forgave you,â she said quietly. âFor the curse. Long ago.â She met his gaze, unwavering. âAnd you should know - you help me endure it too.â
Something in Sebastianâs chest loosened, warm and aching all at once.
The bookâs pages stilled completely, the leather cover gently closing itself as if the conversation no longer concerned it.
The Room of Requirement responded in kind, its light mellowing, the space easing into stillness.

Hello, lovies. I hope you enjoyed your Valentine's weekend. I certainly enjoyed seeing all the very sweet content.Â
Now, however, I'm in the mood for chaos.
Let's see some post-Valentineâs heartbreak.
Give me your OC and/or canon favorites' breakups, big fights, and ultimate romance sins. I want miscommunication, misunderstandings, missteps, misguided intentions, misdirected emotions, the works.
Share however you please: summaries, fic excerpts, art, 10 page long rants about how infuriating your characters are, etc.
Have no heartbreak to share yet? That's okay. Hypotheticals are welcome, too. Feel free to also include what it did/would take for them to make up or move on.Â
I do ask that we keep things respectful. This is about our fictional characters in fictional scenarios. If a topic you don't appreciate is discussed, keep scrolling. Similarly, please appropriately tag and slap content warnings on your posts if youâre discussing known major triggers. If you need to make a separate post to do so, please do.Â
This is just for fun, there's no deadline, and it's not fandom specific. Keep the angst rolling, and please feel free to tag me!
For mine, I decided to tack on a bit from Ch. 26 of The Weight of Shadows. Not really any spoilers.
âIâve been looking for you all afternoon,â he glowered, gesturing across the room with a dramatic sweep of his arm. âI know for a fact, you were not here before. I checked. Twice.â
âApologies. I went out for a bit. I wanted away from the castle,â Westley said, sitting up slowly, then pushing himself off the sofa to stand. Perhaps he wouldnât be sleeping there after all.
âIâd been hoping to spend some time with you todayâseeing as itâs your birthday,â Sebastian grumbled. âBut you were swarmed one half of the day, and missing the other half. Itâs all but over with now.â
They hadnât actually spoken to each other since thatâadmittedly embarrassingâValentineâs night. Westley wasnât sure where they stood. Or where he wanted them to stand. Or how to even go about getting to that point. He sat heavily between wanting to kiss him again and potentially breaking his nose. Especially with the way his freckles were currently scrunching around said nose from the bratty expression on his face.Â
Could he truly be upset, though? Sebastian still didnât know. In his mind, Anne was still cursed, Ominis was acting strange, and Westley was simply tired and avoidant.Â
âI am sorry, Sebastian,â Westley said earnestly, feeling a touch of guilt. How many others had tried to find him? âI hadnât really considered anyone might have planned for much of anything. I justâŚI needed to be away.â
âWhat a bloody wasteâŚâ Sebastian muttered, running a hand through his hair and staring down at his feet.Â
A pricking sensation shot through Westleyâs chest, and another wave of exhaustion washed over him. âIâm going to bed,â he mumbled, stepping around the Slytherin.
âWaitâWes, I justâI wanted to see you today. Iâm sorry. That was uncalled for.â Sebastian grabbed his wrist, spinning him to stand face to face again. âI fucked up. And I know that. I know I donât deserve for you to forgive me, but I justâI want things to be the way they were before,â he stammered.
âThings will never be the way they were, Sebastian,â Westley held back the bite in his tone. âYouâve got to stop acting like they will.â
âButââ
âNo,â Westley snapped. âEverything has changed. We have changed. Even if Anne is cured, she will have changed. She may live, but she may never fully recover. May never regain her constitution. May never have children. May never forgive us for the damage her cure could cost.â Westley ripped his hand away from Sebastian and took a step back. âI know that I will never be the same. Not after everything thatâs happened.â
âJust because weâve changed doesnât mean there canât still be something here,â Sebastian countered stubbornly. âIt doesnât mean we canât still care for each other.â
âI have never stopped caring for you. I have never stopped wanting to be by your side. But it will never be what it was,â Westley seethed. âIf thatâs all you wantâto hold on to what wasânothing will come of it.Â
âI will not water a dead crop, Sebastian.â His vision had grown blurry, his voice continued to raise, and it was taking everything in him not to run. âIf you can be willing to make space for something different to grow here, then there can be a conversation to be had.â
Westley took a slow, shuddering breath, and realized there were tears running down his face. When had he started crying? Heâd also come to realize just thenâas much of a bloody crybaby as he wasâheâd never cried in front of Sebastian before. And that fact was very, very evident on Sebastianâs face. The crease of his brow, the silent panic in his eyes, the way his hands fidgeted at his sides.Â
The sudden vulnerability only served to frustrate Westley more, and he cut Sebastian off before he could speak. âI donât want a response right now. Youâre emotional and impulsive. Just think on what Iâve said.â
Thank you @leawshum for the tag! đ I also read your excerpt and I absolutely love the metaphor here:đ¤Š
âI will not water a dead crop, Sebastian.â
I really love the subtlety and lucidity of Westley, who isnât saying ânoâ to Sebastian ; heâs saying ânoâ to denial. Yes, nothing will ever be the same as before, and that has to be accepted and built upon. â¨đ
As for me, Iâve decided to share a heart-wrenching scene that takes place about a month after Valentineâs Day, but which directly echoes it.
Excerpt from Chapter 11 of Lullaby for Cursed Seeds:
The bruises have faded, the cuts closed, the contusions erased by potions like a bad dream dissolved by daylight. But the violence she endured stirs old shadows within her. Evelyne draws a deep breath and pulls the hood of her robes further over her head.
She has stood up to Marvolo Gaunt, one of the most feared wizards in the country, and she has paid the price. But she has won what she needed for her friend. So she regrets nothing.
Because of that vow, his terrible brother will now see to it that Ominis is at liberty to choose his own fate, and the people who will walk beside him, without fear of reprisal.
This thought warms her heart.
The crowd thickens as Evelyne approaches the best vantage point for the fireworks. A moment ago, the sky teemed with hummingbird-coloured sparks; now it crackles with gold and silver, sketching fleeting swarms of Golden Snidgets before dissolving into showers of light.
Evelyne halts, face tilted up, unwillingly captivated.
It is the kind of beauty that breaks the soul⌠like all things ephemeral, no doubt.
She watches the shapes moving around herâŚ. and her heart stops.
There, leaning against a wall beneath a porch stands Ominis.
With Callista Malfoy, radiant as ever when the world bends to her will.
Evelyne turns to stone.
A voice inside her whispers, âGo.â
Alas, her legs wonât obey.
She can only watch the unthinkable unfold, powerless. Callista, nestled against him as if she belonged there.
Evelyne waits for a recoil, a stiffening of his posture, the faint crease of irritation that usually heralds one of his barbed remarks.
But none of that happens.
On the contrary.
Ominis inclines his headâŚand he is the one who leans in.
He is the one who bends.
He is the one who initiates⌠who chooses.
The scene unfolds with the cruel slowness of tragedy. The onlookers applauds, the fireworks burst into a menagerie of fantastical creatures. Yet to her they blur into a distant, muffled roar, as if someone is holding her head underwater.
Ominis kisses Callista Malfoy.
Without pressure.
Without trap.
And the world closes in around Evelyne. Air refuses to enter her lungs. Her stomach twists. A burn climbs her throat, violent, bewildering.
Why⌠why does it hurt so much?
She staggers back. The little pouch of sugared almonds he gave her earlier slips from her pocket and strikes the cobblestones with a small, brittle sound. She reaches for it⌠then lets her hand fall.
No. She needs to leave. Now.
Her legs begin to move, mechanical at first, then faster. If she sees that image again, Ominis and Callista entwined, she knows, by the kind of merciless certainty that precedes understanding, that she will collapse.
So she slips into the night, head bowed, eyes burning, leaving the golden Snidgets to burst behind her as though the universe is celebrating whatever has just died inside her.
She wanted Ominis to be free? He is.
That includes the freedom to love the viper the Gaunts had always intended for him.
So Evelyne walks away, abandoning the small pouch of sugared almonds to the trampling of the crowd.

I love this idea! Thank you for the tag, @libellule-ao3! That excerpt really intrigues me. I adore Ominis and feel so awful for your poor MC! đ˘
My story The Sun, the Moon, and All Our Stars is full of angst, heartbreak, trauma, etc., so I had plenty of material to work with, but I wanted to pick a short scene that isn't too spoiler-y. To provide some context: it's 1899, and Sebastian is 25. He was taken to Azkaban after the events of his fifth year and expected to spend the rest of his life there. He struck a deal with the DMLE in his 20s to go undercover within a gang of Dark wizards. The reward for bringing them down from the inside out? His freedom. Sebastian has not processed and healed from the intense trauma he faced in Azkaban. He has very little hope for the future until he meets and falls in love with my OC, Kate Mayflower. He keeps his background a secret from her as long as he possibly can; when it eventually comes out and he admits to still practicing Dark magic, she rejects him. In the aftermath of his heartbreak, he makes poor choices and eventually realizes that he needs serious help, leading him to St. Mungo's.
Without further ado, here is an excerpt from Chapter 11: Bloom in the Dark:
Shielding his eyes from the rain, Sebastian hurries along the dark London street, thankful for the storm as it has caused the area to empty of its normal crowds.Â
As he turns a corner, the world around him suddenly illuminates - a flash of lightning, followed by the rumbling of thunder. He wraps his jacket more tightly around him; a puddle splashes under his boot.Â
He canât help but be transported to the past when he takes in the familiar sight.
âJust a little further,â Uncle Solomon grumbles. âCome on, Sebastian.â
Sebastian grits his teeth, then readjusts his grip on Anne. She shudders through the pain, leaning on him for support as they slowly move.
âSeb,â she groans pitifully, âit hurtsâŚâ
âIâve got you,â he soothes his sister. âWeâre almost there. Itâs okay. Theyâre going to fix this. Thereâs nothing St. Mungoâs canât fix.â
Thereâs a shop window on the right with a hand-painted sign: âCLOSED FOR REPAIRS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.â A mannequin is on display, wearing a hideous Victorian dress at least three decades out of style. The silky bodice is pea green, flaring out into a hoop skirt of the same sickly color with orange bows and brown ribbon.
Sebastian leans close to the window. He hesitates but remembers Kateâs sorrowful face when she told him that he was more than the pain of his past. He thinks about all of the reasons for coming here: sleepless nights, moments when memories of terror in Azkaban override the logic of his brain, drowning in regret, drinking by himself, being utterly alone in the world. Kateâs rejection. With all of that in mind, he finally whispers to the mannequin, âI need to s- see⌠a Mind Healer. Please.â
The mannequin gives a subtle nod and gestures for Sebatian to come forward. He steps right through the glass, and the dreary world behind him disappears, replaced by St. Mungoâs.
The ceiling is illuminated with soft light, the trim green. A roaring fire burns, and there are wooden benches nearby for waiting hospital guests. Music from an unseen piano echoes all around.Â
Despite the warmth of the reception area, Sebastian shivers. This is the home of some of his worst memories.
He fidgets, wringing his hands, as he sits next to Solomon. A Healer in green robes and a white head covering finally approaches, surveying them somberly.
âMr. Sallow, Iâm sorry. I bear bad news,â she murmurs. âWe are not familiar with young Anneâs curse. Itâs rather unusual - unlike anything weâve seen before. Without more information, thereâs very little we can do other than offer some potions to manage the pain. So, we-â
âWhat?â Sebastian interrupts incredulously, standing tall despite his voice breaking. âW- What do you mean? Thereâs nothing you can do for her?â His fists clench.
Solomon frowns deeply and flings out his arm, forcing Sebastian to quickly settle back down on the bench.
âI understand youâre upset,â the Healer replies solemnly. âBut only time will tell. This illness may pass. Have patience. And in the meantime, we have some potions that Anne can take temporarilyâŚâ
He shakes away the devastating memory.
Sebastian runs his hand through his wet hair as he unsteadily joins the line of witches and wizards waiting at the reception desk. The closer he gets to the front, the faster his heart beats. He can practically hear his blood pumping in his ears. Feeling as though he is burning up, he wrestles off his jacket, then loosens his shirt collar.Â
They couldnât heal AnneâŚÂ
Whatâs to say they can heal me?
I might as well be cursed myself. Iâm damaged - maybe too damaged - to fixâŚ
His mind begins to race as he progresses, now next in line. Heâs still too hot. He can feel perspiration dripping down his forehead. Itâs becoming impossible to breatheâŚ
Have to get some air. I canât⌠I canât do this⌠Itâs too much.
Sebastian tears himself out of line and makes a beeline for the exit, even as someone asks, âSir?â He finds himself back in the pouring rain, panting as his clothes become soaked. When he has his bearings again, he apparates away.
