Hey everyone, just wanted to shout out to let you know that the Federal Trade Commission is currently collecting comments regarding ideological bias in AI in order to try start the process of drafting regulations. Given the current administration, this seems like a pretty transparent attempt to try to force AI companies to adhere to their own ideological biases.
Now, I can't tell you that you should, for example, leave a comment about your concern for the way Grok has been promoting white nationalist beliefs, but public comments in the regulatory process are a key step and they shape what comes next. If the regulatory agency doesn't fully consider the comments and form a reasonable response to the ones it disagrees with, that can form the basis for overturning a regulation in court.
Anyways, here's the site where you can leave comments that will shape this regulation, the deadline is July 31st.

one of my favorite this american life segments of late is about the people who played orchestra pit for phantom of the opera on broadway and how, like, a sizeable majority of them had literally been playing the show since it opened in 1988 (on broadway. I know it opened in 86 on the west end, you random pedants, but I am specifically talking about broadway musicians) because their contracts stipulated that they'd have jobs throughout the show's entire run... but nobody anticipated that phantom would become the longest-running broadway show of all time.
and none of these people wanted to walk away from a guaranteed job, so very few of them ever quit. they just kept doing the same show eight nights a week... for twenty or thirty years... and by the time it finally closed last year most of these musicians (who had been working together for DECADES) hated each other and really really fucking loathed phantom. I can't stop thinking about it. it's indescribably hellish to imagine but also the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life.

I hate windows 11's interface so much. In trying to make it "slick" it's just fucking clunky and slow and annoying and too many buttons to use. 👎 Windows 10 has this issue too.
Making things over-designed and "slick" and "modern" is a form of enshittification, too.
Not all of my programs I like to use run on linux >:\ so whatever. might look into seeing if I can make windows 11's UI oldschool.
Anyway, on the other hand, I had a good experience with a software installer that played this song while it worked.
