A brow rose in concern, however, as his officer finished his thoughts.  Now he was even more suspicious.  His officers never thanked him for anything, and he actually preferred it that way.  The only way he liked talking to his subordinates was if they had an update for him regarding any information they discovered.

As such, Mayuri had no idea how to react.

After a few tense, long moments of silence, the younger Shinigami’s face erupts in to several particularly vibrant shades of crimson. No situation in his life (or afterlife rather) would have been able to prepare him for this moment.There was no way to respond to a question like that. Either he says yes and he dies. Or he says no, possibly offends his captain and still ends up dying. There’s no way to win. There is no right answer to this. He could feel a bead of sweat rolling down his face, and oh god he still hasn’t answered. He still hasn’t answered and now the two are just looking at each other. Rin just staring, wide eyed and red faced, in complete silence.

And like a dam breaking the words are suddenly spilling out with Rin unable to stop them, his voice several octaves higher than usual.

And he has to admit the diminutive shinigami raises some valid points. Honestly, he doesn’t contest them.  But it’s difficult to make such broad generalizations, isn’t it? Every situation has its own unique set of circumstances. And it is so easy to convince oneself that one’s goal is for the Greater Good. 

But if it truly is… would it wrong to risk the safety of one for the sake of others? 

He breathed a sigh of relief, glad to see that the older man agreed with him. His line of thinking had a tendency to not be as well understood by other members of the Gotei 13. Rin gave a small smile to his companion, thankful for the similar mindsets.

“So this is love… So this is what makes life divine.”

“If you’d hold still, it wouldn’t hurt as much!”

“Someday I’ll be part of your world!”

“Supper’s not quite ready. You’ll just have time to wash.”

“Look around you! This is where the path of hatred has brought us!”

“I’ve hidden it… Somewhere you’ll never find it!”

“Why do they still treat me like a child?”

“God, and good, and evil….” The younger shinigami’s voice trails off a bit, his expression clouding a bit. 

It has come to my attention that some individuals take absolutely no effort to read about a character first before accusing a player of being off canon. 

Meanwhile the character is being played precisely as the character should be based on that character’s storyline in the about page.
