On Being Aware

I need a philosophical reboot. It's so easy to hate yourself and so hard to see life as it is. You can't even hate yourself. It's something alien to human nature and I am constantly astounded about how easy it is to do. There is nothing except for the present experience. Alan Watts says "as a matter of fact, you cannot compare this present experience with a past experience. You can only compare it with a memory of the past, which is a part of the present experience." That means the qualities of my memories are always colored by what is happening right now. I could look back on someone taking my hand with anger, or with sadness, or with regret, or with happiness, and it changes all the time. Nothing is fixed and nothing is objective. I always forget that things are always in flux. I forgot how beautiful it is that everything is constantly in flux. Just like you have to stop reading this sentence to think "I am reading this sentence" you have to stop being in love with someone to think "I am love with someone" and you have to stop being happy to think "I am happy." You can not run away from your feelings and I don't understand why we try so hard to take ourselves out of every single experience that is not pleasant. I have spent so long apologizing for feeling the way I do and running away from it because it's something my friends don't like or appreciate. It's gotten me nowhere. I am sick of calling myself names, I am sick of calling everything names. I'm pretty much repeating Watts in my own voice but if I write things out they stick.
