If I'm part Spanish am I Hispanic or Latina? Sorry if i'm ignorant, I just don't know
If youâre talking about Spain the country, youâre Hispanic, not Latin@. Latin@ is a geographical region. Like, Brazil is a Latin country but since they speak Portuguese as a main language and itâs located in Latin America, but it is not a Hispanic country. Conversely, Spain is a Hispanic country as they speak Spanish as a main language, but it is not a Latin country because itâs located in Europe. Can there be people of Spanish descent in Brazil or people of Latin American descent in Spain? Sure, but what you are depends on geographical and linguistic factors, at least as I understand itâCoyote
Eh.. Actually this isnât really correct. Hispanic countries are countries that speak Spanish or are culturally Spanish, *outside of Spain*. Spanish people who are born and raised in Spain arenât Hispanic, theyâre just.. Spanish. Queen Isabella wasnât Hispanic. Penelope Cruz is not Hispanic.
Also, not everyone within Spanish territory even speaks Spanish or identifies as Spanish. The Basque, Catalan and Galician people all have very distinct cultures, especially the Basques, who have had a long, bloody history of trying to win autonomy from both Spain and France. Their language isnât even related to Spanish, itâs an isolate.
