These Words
This is my @stydiasecretsanta gift for @im2old4thisotp! Merry Christmas, Allison! I initially wanted to write something else, but then rewatched 6x10 and was so inspired, so I wrote something about that episode. I hope you enjoy and again, a very happy Christmas!Â
Summary: in 6x10 when Stiles and Lydia reunite, this describes what happened shortly before and what happened after
Authorâs note: just to avoid confusion, this picks up right after Lydia runs out of the school library where Peter and Malia are fighting the ghost rider
Lydia ran out of the library trying to get away from the ghost rider. As she turned, she suddenly found Malia no longer beside her. Just as she was about to run back to help her friend, she felt an incredible pull in her chest. But it wasnât the banshee inside her, it wasnât a scream of death building up, it was something different. Something different entirely.Â

Itâs my first time participating and I really hope you enjoy reading this :)
Merry Christmas, Elly! :)Â
Lydia had just woken up with a gasp and the second she opened her eyes, all she could see was him. His face was only a few inches away from hers and as she regained consciousness slowly, she could feel his hands on her cheeks, caressing her face frantically. She had almost missed the worry and concern in his eyes before they were quickly replaced with relief once her eyes were focusing on him.
She blinked up at him and felt herself getting lost in his eyes instantly. The relief was still prominent but there was something else, too, and she was pretty sure she knew what it was.
Even though she had known how she felt about him for quite a while now, she didnât want him to know. But in that moment, she didnât care that it was written all over her face. He had saved her life, again, and she was allowing herself to let her love show just this once. She had almost died, it wasnât like anyone would hold it against her.
Stiles removed his hands from her cheeks and she could hardly stop herself from letting out a noise of protest when one of his hands moved back to cup her cheek while the other one was tangling with her hand below. She looked down at their intertwined hands and her eyes were tearing up when it suddenly hit her.
She was safe now and it was all thanks to the brown haired boy that wasnât leaving her side. A tear fell but she didnât bother wiping it away. His eyes were so soft, looking at her as if it was his only purpose in life to make sure she was alright. Somewhere in the back of her head, she knew that Scott and Deaton were in the room with them, but she only had eyes for Stiles.
âDo you want to sit up?â He asked quietly and she nodded, tightening her grip on his hand. He wrapped his free arm around her shoulder to support her whilst simultaneously pulling her up. Once she was sitting up, she could feel his hand loosening around hers, trying to pull away, but she wasnât having any of it. Stiles looked up at her in surprise, his eyes flitting between their still intertwined hands and her eyes.
She could tell he was trying to gauge her reaction but she counted it as a good sign that he hadnât tried to pull away from her again. His thumb had started drawing little circles on the back of her hand and it made Lydia shiver. She took a deep breath, wincing slightly when a sharp pain flitted through her head. She had tried to suppress it, but of course Stiles had noticed.
âAre you okay?â He asked, concern written all over his features. He brought his free hand back up to her face, stroking her hair soothingly in order to lessen the headache.
âYes.â Lydia breathed out, lifting her hand to cover his own on the side of her head, bringing it down to cup her cheek.
Stilesâ eyes widened momentarily but then something seemed to snap into place inside of him. He seemed calm inside while his thumb was caressing her cheek gently, and Lydia knew he had gotten the hint. He was staring into her eyes deeply, trying to make sure he wasnât reading too much into her actions and Lydia made sure to let all of her emotions show.
She moved her hand from covering his on her cheek to his own, mirroring his actions to reassure him that this was exactly what she wanted. He let out a shaky breath and finally started to lean in. They had waited for this moment for so long and even though she was starting to feel impatient, she let him take his time. He had waited for this for way longer than Lydia had and she felt like she owed it to him.
When his face was only inches away from hers she finally closed her eyes and was just about to pull his face towards hers the rest of the way - because there was only so much anticipation she could take - when she suddenly woke up.
She was feeling shaky and a few tears had escaped her eyes, just like every other time this had happened. She turned onto her side, curling up into a ball to get the tingling feeling out of her body and wiped her tears away angrily. Stiles had rescued her from Eichen House a little over two weeks ago and she was mad at herself for not being able to get rid of this dream.
The first time it had happened was the night right after he had rescued her. She was well aware of the fact that her mind was using dreams to deal with everything that had happened and to make sense of it. But why was it focusing on Stiles so much, rather than all the awful things Valack had done to her? She would have almost preferred for Valackâs procedures to be her recurring dreams. But only almost. But the loss she always felt when she woke up was almost too much to bare.
Lydia was well aware that she was in love in Stiles. And even though the moment she kept dreaming about was the moment she finally admitted it to herself, it wasnât the moment she had fallen in love with him. She had asked herself about the how and when countless times, but she simply couldnât pinpoint the exact moment her feelings for him had changed.
And just a few days ago, realization had hit her. It wasnât a specific moment. It had been a process she had only become aware of once it had been too late. It had been all the little things he had done for her, all the looks he had given her and the way his hand always seemed to find hers whenever they were in danger.
She was mad at herself for not bothering to get to know Stiles earlier. She had noticed him staring at her in class and although she had pretended not to, she had also heard his compliments when she passed him in the hallways every single time. She had enjoyed the attention she was getting from him, but she had never really considered getting to know him. Although, every once in a while, she had let herself imagine what it would be like to be together with someone like Stiles.
These thoughts had mostly come up whenever Jackson had been acting like a jerk again, which she now realized happened way more often than she could count. Whenever he had been yelling at her again for no reason and she felt Stilesâ gaze on her, her mind had wandered and imagined what it would be like.
Stiles would never yell at her because he had lost a lacrosse game. He wouldnât yell at her for talking to a guy she was partnered with in class. He would probably not yell at her at all and even if they did have an argument, he would surely let it go before one of them would get hurt. She wasnât naive, though. Surely there would be arguments, too, but she was certain that a guy like Stiles would never purposely hurt her. Not like Jackson.
But even though she had thought about all of that, it had never really occurred to her to break up with Jackson. Back then she had been way too self-absorbed and protective over her position as queen bee at the school. She had put up with Jacksons behaviour, made herself small so he could shine and instead played the dumb trophy girlfriend he wanted her to be.
She felt awful thinking back to what she could have had, if only she had realized what a great guy Stiles was sooner. She was under no illusion thinking that Stiles was still feeling the same way about her as he had before everything had gone down. He didnât have any idea who she really was back then because they had never even talked once. Somehow he had made up this perfect version of her in his head, placing her on a pedestal that the real her could never live up to.
And his obvious affection towards her had lessened considerably ever since they had gotten closer. They had become friends along the way and even though she put up a fight at first, not ready to accept that she wasnât the most popular girl at school anymore; it had just happened inevitably. Stiles had crept into her life and made sure to stay there whenever she tried to put distance between them. And somewhere along the way he had also made his way into her heart.
It was hard to face the truth but there was no denying the fact that they had kind of switched places: Now she was the one with the crush and Stiles the one who was ignoring her. Granted, ever since he had broken up with Malia he wasnât as distant anymore, but they werenât comfortable around each other either.
Lydia tried to shake off all of the thoughts that were in any way connected to Stiles and pulled herself out of bed. It was Friday, but Lydia had never wished for it to be the weekend more. She took a shower, hoping it would wake her up a little more and wash away the lingering feeling of Stilesâ hands on her face.
Just as expected, it didnât really help. Lydia made her way downstairs and she almost missed the note her mother had left for her. Just like any other weekend, her mother wouldnât be there and Lydia would be home alone once again. Only this time she was glad she had the house to herself. She could eat ice cream, run around the house in her pyjamas all day long and watch cheesy romance movies.
The only thing standing between Lydia and her weekend plans was one more day of school. One more day of avoiding Stiles before she could relax for two full days before doing it all over again. She was repeating this to herself on the whole way to school, hoping it would stop her from turning around and calling in sick. She was Lydia Martin after all, she never called in sick, especially when there was no reason to do so.
She pulled into a parking space, took a deep breath and got out of her car. She had parked as far away from the spot Stiles usually chose as possible even though that meant she had to walk for a few minutes to get to the building. Nothing was more important than avoiding Stiles, especially after having that dream again.
Everything went perfect. She saw Scott briefly after second period but as soon as she saw Stiles coming towards them, she excused herself to the ladies room and waited until the bell rang for next period. Luckily she didnât have a single class with Stiles on Fridays.
The only time she couldnât avoid him was during lunch. She didnât want anyone to get suspicious or notice that she was actively avoiding Stiles, so she thought that lunch was the safest choice to spend time with him. Scott was there, as well as Malia and Allison and so far she had always managed not to sit next to him, just like today. She did notice his looks though, but she pretended not to see them.
After school Lydia made her way to the library. There was only one book left on her list of books to read before going to MIT and it was finally available after two long months of waiting. And it was the perfect hideout to make sure she wouldnât run into Stiles on her way out. Just to be sure, she sat down in her favourite seat in a little hidden corner and started to read. She would read for a few minutes until everyone had left the school and then she would head home, too, and follow the plan she had made in the morning.
But because she had been waiting to read this book for so long, she lost track of time reading and suddenly a little over two hours had past. The library was completely empty except for the librarian who smiled at Lydia as she made her way outside. She stopped by her locker to grab her math book when she suddenly heard a familiar voice and winced.
âHey!â Stiles said and Lydia closed her eyes for a few seconds before turning around to face him. He was standing in front of her, looking at her questioningly. âWhat are you still doing here?â
âI⌠I lost track of time in the library. But I was just leaving.â She said and she didnât miss the way Stilesâ eyes got all soft, not leaving hers. She felt herself blush and she didnât like it at all. She couldnât remember ever blushing before her feelings for Stiles had surfaced and she wanted to go back to that time desperately.
âLet me guess, you were reading some intense book for MIT again?â Stiles asked with a smirk and Lydia just rolled her eyes which was all the confirmation Stiles needed. âWell, I guess thatâs what the really smart people do in their free time.â He added and Lydia was having a really hard time looking at Stiles.
He was looking at her just like he had all those years ago when they had been at the winter formal and he had told her that she was smart for the very first time. He had been the first one to notice it then and Lydia was taken back to that moment. Back then she had mostly been annoyed by Stiles, but that night, after his little speech, she had started to see him a little differently.
She hadnât been able to forget about Jackson though and she would never forget the disappointment in Stilesâ eyes when he had told her to go look for Jackson. He had always been selfless like that.
âAre you okay?â Stiles asked, snapping Lydia out of her thoughts.
âSure, Iâm fine!â She put on her best fake smile but of course Stiles could see right through it.
âWell, first of all, I hope you know that Iâm not buying it. And second of all I wanted to talk to you.â Lydia lowered her eyes to the ground. She knew exactly what was coming and she had expected for this to happen for a few days now. âWhy are you avoiding me? Did I do something wrong?â
He wasnât even asking if she was avoiding him, he just knew. When she finally looked up into his eyes again they were staring right back at her, as if he was trying to see right into her soul. With Stiles so close to her, she had hard time thinking straight.
âWhat, no you didnât do anything wrong. Iâm not avoiding you, why should I be avoiding you, you didnât do anything wrongâŚâ She was very aware that she was rambling and so she just stopped talking before she embarrassed herself even further.
âOkay, look. I know you, Lydia, and Iâm not buying it. You are avoiding me and you have been for a while now. I thought it was because of Eichen House and that you maybe just needed some time for yourself to process. But itâs obvious that I am the only one who you are avoiding. So, please, just tell me what I did wrong. I promise you, whatever it is, I didnât mean to upset you!â
Lydiaâs mind was racing. She should have been subtler and maybe she should have pulled away from everyone else, too, to make it more believable and so Stiles wouldnât take it personally. But he probably would have asked her about it anyway and she would have been lonely on top of it.
She didnât dare to look him in the eye anymore because in this moment, she wasnât sure she could keep all of her feelings to herself. She couldnât let herself slip and admit that she was in love with him. It would make things between them even more uncomfortable and she didnât want that. With a little bit of time she would get over him and they could be friends and solve the supernatural mysteries together, just like they used to.
But first she needed to get out of this moment without doing anything stupid. Her gaze was focused on her shoes and she suddenly found they were the most interesting thing she had ever seen. She was prolonging the inevitable moment when she needed to say something for as long as possible, but sure enough, after a few moments Stiles couldnât take it anymore.
âLydia, please. At least look at me. Please.â Stiles said quietly, moving a little closer to her but Lydia couldnât. When she didnât move, she suddenly felt Stilesâ finger under her chin, lifting it up so that she had to look up at him. She could have easily pulled away, but the feeling of his hand on her face made it impossible for her to move.
She took a deep breath, trying to get herself together and prepare to snap at him. Because thatâs how she always dealt with unwanted feelings. She snapped at the people closest to her to keep them from coming even closer and making herself vulnerable to them.
But when her eyes met his for the countless time that afternoon, she couldnât do it. His eyes were so sincere and honestly worried about her and she couldnât drive him away. No words were coming out of her mouth and for a second she felt as if there was also love in his eyes. Rationally, she knew there wasnât, but with the way he was looking at her, something suddenly snapped inside of her.
âCome on, you know you can tell me anything, right?â Stiles coaxed, trying to get her to open up to him. He had just finished the sentence when Lydia suddenly rushed forward and kissed him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling herself up to reach him and Stiles froze. Lydia was panicking inside and was just about to pull away from him when he suddenly came to his senses. He placed his hands on her hips, pulling her closer and started to move his lips against hers. He was holding on to her tightly, as if he was afraid she would pull away at any moment.
And that was what made Lydia pull away suddenly. Their faces were only a few inches apart as they were both trying to catch their rapid breaths. There were so many emotions in Stilesâ eyes that Lydia couldnât place any of them. What the hell had she been thinking just kissing him like that? She knew he didnât feel that way about her and was probably just fulfilling some teenage fantasy.
Or even worse, maybe he had simply kissed her back out of pity or because he feared that it would be awkward between them had he rejected her. Even though she knew it was her fault, she wouldnât stand around, waiting for the Iâm sorry, but I donât feel this way about you anymore speech that was surely coming. She dropped her hands from his neck quickly, taking two steps backwards, breaking every physical contact there had been.
Something changed in Stilesâ eyes, but Lydia didnât look at him long enough to analyse.
âIâm sorry, I shouldnât have done that!â She exclaimed, already turning around and running out of the school. She could hear Stiles calling her name faintly, but she needed to get away from him.
*****
Stiles was standing right where Lydia had left him, frozen in place and his mind and heart were racing. Lydia was literally running out of the school, and if there was one thing Lydia never did â not counting life or death type of situations â it was running. When she had almost reached the doors, Stiles finally regained his senses and called after her, but she didnât turn around.
He didnât know what to do. Lydia had just kissed him. Lydia had kissed him. And then she had run away. After a few more seconds he decided that it was best to do what he always did when he needed advice: ask Scott. So he made his way to his jeep, still thinking about the way Lydiaâs lips had felt on his.
âScott!! Scott, I know youâre home! Open the door!â Stiles was banging Scottâs front door, waiting to be let in.
âDude, what the hell? Do you think Iâm standing right next to the door just in case youâre coming over so I could open the door the second you knocked? Whatâs goingâŚâ Stiles really tried to let Scott finish but his sentence was just too long to wait.
âLydia kissed me!â He blurted out and Scott immediately stopped talking.
âShe did what? When?â Scott asked once he had recovered from the shock.
âI saw her after Lacrosse practice and I asked her why she was avoiding me and then she suddenly kissed me. Completely out of the blue, but she kissed me, Scott. Lydia just kissed me!â He exclaimed, barely containing his excitement. Scottâs face changed from disbelieve to confusion.
âAnd what exactly are you doing here now? Why are you not with Lydia?!â Stiles looked as if he didnât really know the answer to that question either, but then it suddenly came back to him.
âWell, she kind of apologised after and left⌠She ran away. Like literally ran away from me.â Stiles admitted, his excitement making way for the disappointment and confusion about the whole situation.
âYou are such an idiot sometimes!â Scott said, shaking his head. Stilesâ eyes grew wide and Scott almost laughed at the expression Stiles was making. The confusion was written all over his face and Scott decided to put him out of his misery. âShe is scared, Stiles! You know Lydia better than any of us, you of all people should know that!â
Stiles thought about Scottâs words for a while before realising that he was probably right. Lydia had never been one to open up easily and she had every reason not to. Things with Jackson had been bad at the end and even though Stiles wasnât sure if she was in a relationship with Aidan, they had still had something before he died. And even thinking about how Lydiaâs father had abandoned her to be with his new family got Stiles extremely angry.
âStiles, go!â Scott finally said when Stiles still wasnât moving. Snapping out of his thoughts, Stiles turned around and ran back to his jeep. But just as he was about to reach it, he turned around and ran back. He hugged Scott quickly, mumbling something that sounded like thank you and went back to his jeep.
The drive to Lydiaâs house wasnât long, but Stiles had probably broken about five different laws in his haste to get to Lydia. He parked his car and didnât bother locking it before rushing to her front door and ringing the doorbell. He had to use all of his self-control not to ring it again and again. Moment after moment passed, but nobody answered the door.
He turned around and saw her car in the driveway, so he took a step back to look up to her bedroom window. He was sure he saw some movement there, but as his eyes had focused on the window, Lydia wasnât there anymore. He was almost certain that Lydia was simply trying to avoid him, again, so he decided to be bold.
He lifted the small porcelain turtle on the window sill and found the spare key they had been keeping there ever since Lydia started having banshee episodes in the middle of the night. He knew Lydia would be mad at him for practically breaking into her house, but he didnât care. He needed to talk to her and he wouldnât let her run from this.
He turned the key inside the lock and opened the door carefully. He was pretty sure that Lydiaâs mum was out of town for the weekend again, just like all the past weekends, so he wasnât worried about running into her. Plus, Mrs. Martin would have surely opened the door for him when he rang the doorbell.
He made his way up the stairs and walked straight to Lydiaâs room. He almost went in without knocking, but he valued his life too much to risk getting killed by an angry Lydia. He knocked and only had to wait for a few seconds before the door swung open forcefully, revealing a â just as expected â fuming Lydia.
âWhat the hell are you thinking? You canât just break into my house Stiles! The key is for emergencies and this certainly doesnât classify as one!â Stiles was taken aback for a few seconds, before he recovered quickly.
âIt actually is an emergency, Lydia! We need to talk!â Stiles answered just as loudly, flailing his arms.
âNo we donât! I donât want to talk to you right now, thatâs why I didnât open the door in the first place! So, leave!â Lydia was getting louder and for a second Stiles didnât know what to do, but he did know that he was not leaving before they had talked about the kiss. He took a deep breath before speaking.
âLydia, please. Can we just talk about what happened?â Stiles asked in a much calmer voice, and he could see something change in Lydiaâs eyes. She blushed and Stiles couldnât help but smile a little at that. Lydia never blushed, just like she never ran. But everything seemed to be different today and Stiles liked it.
âWe donât have to talk about it, itâs fine. I already said Iâm sorry and you didnât have to come here to tell me you donât feel that way about me. I already know, so donât worry. It wonât happen again. Iâm sorry but can we please forget it happened and move on? Please?â Lydia was looking up at him with pleading eyes and all he could do was shake his head.
How could she believe any of what she just said? She thought he was here because he wanted to make sure that she didnât get any wrong ideas? How could she not know that he was still in love with her? Granted, he had tried to hide his feelings better, but only because he didnât want to bother her and was trying to make their friendship work. But she still hadnât said anything about her feelings.
âLydia, why did you kiss me?â He simply asked after a few moments of silence. He just needed her to answer this one question and if he was right, everything else would be resolved.
âDonât pretend like you donât already know! Itâs okay that you are not feeling the same way, but Iâm not going to say it, Stiles.â Lydia said. She turned around, making it clear to Stiles that the conversation was over, leaving him standing in her door frame.
Without making the conscious decision to, Stiles reached out to her and grabbed her wrist gently. He turned her back around to him, and she looked down at his hand on her wrist before looking up into his eyes. He was taken back to just about an hour ago. Lydia had been looking at him with the exact same expression and Stiles could only hope that he was doing the right thing.
âThatâs not at all why I came here.â He said quietly and Lydiaâs eyes softened. All of her feelings were showing and Stiles couldnât wait any longer. He lifted his hand to brush a strand of hair out of her face, gauging her reaction. Just as his hand touched her face, Lydia closed her eyes for a second, revelling in his touch, before opening them again to look up at Stiles.
Stiles leaned towards her slowly, giving her the opportunity to stop him if she wanted to. Instead of pulling away Lydia took a step forward, stepping closer to Stiles. His hand was resting on her cheek now, and just as he was letting go of her wrist to bring his other hand up to cradle her face, his lips met hers for the second time that day.
Lydia wrapped her arms around his neck and stood up on her tiptoes, kissing him back slowly. Stiles was enjoying every second and he didnât ever want to pull away from her. The last time their kiss ended, Stiles had to watch her walk away from him. He gave her one long, last kiss before pulling away slowly to look at her face. .
He was still holding onto her cheeks to make sure she wouldnât leave but once he saw her eyes, he wasnât worried anymore. Her eyes were shining with emotion and a small smile was gracing her lips.
âI love you.â Stiles simply said and Lydia just kissed him again. He didnât need her to say it back, her actions were speaking for themselves. He had waited years to finally be able to kiss her, and it was finally happening.
When they parted, Stiles pulled her in for a hug as a huge grin was spreading all over his face.
âSorry I took so long to get here todayâŚâ Stiles murmured into her hair quietly. Lydia loosened her arms around him and pulled back enough to look at him.
âYou went to Scott first, didnât you?â Lydia asked and the guilty look on Stilesâ face was enough for her to know she had hit the nail on the head. She shook her head good-naturedly and couldnât suppress the smile that was spreading across her face.
âWell, the most important thing is that you are here now.â She said, before leaning in to continue exactly where they left off.
This Is Not a Panic Attack
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Pairing: Stiles Stilinski/Lydia Martin
Summary:Â Newly turned into a werewolf, Stiles struggles to find control through his memoriesâand whatâs happening right in front of him. Canon divergent AU in which Stiles must turn into a werewolf to defeat the nogitsune. The fox might be gone, but now Stiles is a wolf. And it might be harder than he thought.
A/N: This fic was written for @unspokenconnection24 for @stydiasecretsanta 2018. Merry Christmas, Sarah! I had a lot of fun writing this, and I hope you enjoy it!
Stiles took a deep breath. Closed his eyes. Being calm was never something heâd been very good at. Find a memory. A good memory.
He had plenty, but they werenât his strongest ones.
The pain was too much. It made him too heavy. Each step he took dragged his feet along the ground, like his shoes weighed a thousand pounds each. When he sat at his desk, it was too much work to keep his head up. He buried his face in his forearms and tried not to think.
It was probably the stillest heâd ever been in school.
He could hear voices surrounding him, feel hands touching, tapping him. Was that his name? Who was calling his name? He didnât care.
Just leave me alone, he thought.
One voice cut through the rest. Higher. Sharper. âLeave him alone.â
The babble surrounding him quieted.
âJust get away from him. Canât you see he wants to be left alone?â
Stiles lifted his head the tiniest bit, peeking over his folded arms to see who had come to defend him.
The waves of golden reddish hair, the pert, attentive posture gave it away.
âWhen my grandmother died,â Lydia Martin continuedâspeaking to the group of gathered third graders at large, but glancing back to meet Stilesâs eyesâ"I wanted to be left alone too. Grief is a hard process.â
As the crowd began to dissipate, Stiles felt warmth flood through his body, lifting the crushing weight of sadness from his limbs.
Just those few sentences. Thatâs all it took.
"Stiles? Stiles, focus.â
Hearing his name in the present snapped him out of his memories. As he blinked, shook his head, he realized that fangs had sprouted in his mouth without his permission.
âCrap,â he mumbled through a mouthful of sharp, oversized teeth.
âItâs not that big a deal. Get over yourself,â that same high, sharp voice teased him.
âIâcanât,â Stiles growled through gritted teeth. A convulsion rippled through his body, and he felt claws tear through his fingernails like tissue paper.
He could barely remember how it happened. One day heâd been losing sleep, discovering a coded kill message in his handwriting, going to see Scottâs mom at the hospitalâ
Then heâd woken up surrounded by his friends, with Lydia Martin clinging to his hand. A bandage was covering his shoulder, dressing the wound Scott had made with his teeth.
Heâd lost so much time, he soon learned. It had been only a few days after Halloweenânow suddenly November was almost over, and Stiles was a werewolf. A slave to the lunar cycle.
The next few weeks leading up to the December full moon had been a blur of anxiety, panic attacks punctuated by claws, and Zen lessons with Scott.
Now it was here, and Stiles hadnât even had time to get excited about Christmas yet.
âLook at me, Stiles. You can do this.â Lydia Martin held his gaze, earnest and trusting. She knelt opposite him on the floor, tilting her head to meet his eyes. âYou have to find your anchor.â
Find your anchor. Every calming thought heâd run though his mind had failed, every memory with his dad or Scott orâŚor his mom. Nothing was working like that memory of Lydia. And not even that could really stave off his bloodlust.
âIâm trying, butâŚâ He trailed off, clenching his teeth as another spasm wracked his body.
Scott had never mentioned how freaking painful turning into a wolf was. His body strained against it, against the primal urge to use his new teeth, sink them into the prey, sitting compliant right in front of himâŚ
No.
He delved back into memories. Searched for more of her.
I canât hurt her. I canât.
âDad, I think Iâm in love.â
âReally!â His dad, a little less gray-haired, face with fewer lines, lifted his eyebrows in surprise. âWith who?â
âLydia. Lydia Martin. She was nice to me today.â
Dadâs mouth twitches upward. Not quite a smile, but close. An almost-smile. âThatâsâŚgood. Iâm glad, son.â
Little Stiles hops up on a stool, rocking back and forth on two legs. âWhat do I do? Should I kiss her?â
âWellâŚâ his dad hesitates. âNot at first. You need to respect her. Right now, you like her, but you have to be sure she likes you, too.â
âHow will I know?â
âOh, sheâll let you know. It may take a while, and you might have to be patient, but youâll know. Trust me, youâll know.â
Will I, Dad?
It had been almost ten years now. As Lydia crouched in front of him, murmuring soothing words of comfort and encouragement, he had no idea what she was feeling.
He knew what he was feelingâan intense hunger. Not to eat, but a hunger for violence. To rip, claw, maim.
Werewolves were wild creatures. They couldnât be domesticated.
What was Lydia thinking, staying here with him? Why was Scott out somewhere else, coaching Malia? How had Scott done this?
âLydia, you need to get away from me,â he gasped. âI canât hurt you.â
âYou canât hurt me?â she echoed, an incredulous shadow falling over her face. âThen should I just take these off?â She reached for the manacles that encircled his wrists, chaining him to the floor.
Adrenaline spiked through his veins, an extra shoot of pain into his already-wracked body. âNo! Don'tâLydia, I canât hurt you.â
He breathed deep. Reached deep. âI canât hurt youâŚlikeâŚScott couldnât hurt Allison.â
She cocked an eyebrow. Her eyes, already huge and doe-like, grew even rounder. Listening, rapt.
âY'know, he was terrified of it. Because heâŚhe loves her.â
Her fingers had frozen on his wrist. Her lips parted. She whispered. âTheyâre not together anymore.â
âBut they were, okay? Their first date, that night at the party, that was his firstâŚâ
Stiles trailed off. He stared Lydia dead on. His eyes burned, itched, and he knew they were glowing.
Lydia finished his sentence. âHis first change.â Her voice was so soft, it might not have been audible if not for Stilesâs fancy new wolf hearing.
He nodded. âOn their first date.â He remembered spending the evening in a blur of panic. Thinking he might have to tell the new family in town that his best friend had killed their daughter.
As he said that, the spell seemed to break. Lydia blinked and narrowed her eyes. âAre you trying to insinuate that thisââ she indicated the dank basement, the chains clapped around his wristsâ âthis is our first date?â
Oh crap. âWhat? No! No, no, Iââ
âBecause thisâŚis a really crappy date.â A tiny, smug smirk crept over her face.
He closed his eyes and shook his head, fighting the chant in his mind kill kill kill and trying to get his thoughts in order. âLook, Lydiaââ
âIf youâre going to say something, just say it.â
Stiles hugged a humorless laugh. Like pretty much everything else in his life, this wasnât going to work out. âI was trying to say something epic.â
âThen. Say. It.â
The three words were so cold and demanding that any resistance he had left, any more posturing heâd been thinking of trying, was broken, smashed into nothing.
âI love you. I love you, Lydia, okay? I canât hurt you becauseâŚbecause I love you.â
He stopped there, panting, sweating, as another wave of pain rippled up through his head. Hair ripped through the underdeveloped follicles on his face, giving him mutton chops that Elvis himself would be jealous of.
Well, that was great. It would be best if he looked just ridiculous while giving the speech of his life.
Lydiaâs expression wasâŚmore calculating than shocked. âAgain with the âyouâŚcanât hurt me.ââ
She had to be messing with him. How could he explain this to someone so smart? âNo, IâŚcan, but IâŚcanât.â
That wasnât right. âI mean, I physically can hurt you, I have the ability toâŚâ
Very cool and non-threatening, perfect. âBut I canâtâŚmentallyâŚbegin to process how I couldâŚwhat I would doâŚâ
It just wasnât working. His tongue was in knots. The wolf did it. Wolf-tongue-tied. That was a thing, right?
He hung his head as Lydia spoke again.
âSomething epic, huh?â
Stiles couldnât even manage to meet her eyes. âYeah, well, sometimes things donât turn out the way you want.â
Then he felt her hand on his jaw. His furry, misshapen jaw. Her fingers tilted his chin up, up, until he stared into her face.
A low growl rumbled in his throat as the wolf inside him begged, drooled, to be let out.
No. This was Lydia, and her perfect lips were opening again, saying something.
âHow about we just skip to the partâŚwhere I tell you to shut up?â
With her hand locking his jaw in place, she leaned in, pressing her lips against his.
Unafraid. Uncautious of the sharp teeth behind his lips, waiting to bite, to spill blood inside his mouth and hersâ
No, wait. They were gone. His wolf teeth had retracted, and his very human mouthâwith his very human breath, he was sureâwas moving with Lydiaâs.
She tastedâŚgood. Not in a yum-human-flesh-because-Iâm-a-wolf wayâbut the way she tasted that day in the locker room. When sheâd silenced his blaring mind without words, without anything but a shock. This kiss tasted even better than the last one.
He couldnât tell how long they stayed that way, lips moving in synchronization, both her hands cupping his furry face, no sound except their gasping breaths.
When they finally broke apart, Stiles couldnât do anything except stare at Lydia. Her perfect hair, only mussed the tiniest bit by theirâŚmakeout session? Holy crap. The thought froze Stilesâs mind completely. Heâd just made out with Lydia Martin.
âYou kissed me,â he breathed in disbelief.
She nodded as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. âI know. I was there.â
âWhyâd you do that?â he asked stupidly.
Lydia didnât reply right away. Her gaze dropped, lips curling inward in a shy smile. One hand went to tuck her hair behind her earâa nervous tic of hers, he knew. With his new eyes, Stiles could tell, even in the dim light, she was blushing.
Heâd made Lydia Martin blush.
âLydiaâŚâ Stiles could feel a grin budding on his face. Not only had he done the thing heâd been waiting for since the third freaking grade, he could feel the wolfy hair on his cheeks retracting. His control was returning. And his confidence was blooming. âIf you have something to sayâŚâ
Lydia wet her lips. She cast a timid glance up toward the basement window, where falling snow was just barely visible.
âMerry Christmas?â she tried.
Stiles snorted.
Whatever memory heâd been searching for was obsolete now. He had an anchor, and her name was Lydia Martin. The feeling of her lips against his, for no other reason than to kiss him, bested any other thing he could remember.
This wolf thing was going to be a lot easier than heâd thought.
A Very Merry Mini Series
Hi there! This is my @stydiasecretsanta gift to @let-them-laugh, Zuzi! Iâve had a busy month, which didnât leave me much time to work on the fic I wanted to give you. However, I thought it would be fun to finish out the year with this Stydia Christmas Mini Series! Iâll post a new part every day until the end of December. I hope you enjoy reading this, because I am very excited to write it!
Pair: Stydia, Scallison on the side. Warnings: None!
PS: This is just me setting up the mini series. Not much happens, itâs short, but I think itâs a great set up and prep for the rest of the series.
The holidayâs were Lydiaâs particular time to shine throughout the year. With all the fun clothes to wear, gifts to buy, and parties to decorate, she could do it all. The snow storms that had come through this winter grounded her flight, and just about everyone elseâs, so a majority of the students were stuck in their dorm rooms until further notice. Her floor was full, and she was determined to cheer her friendâs up in time for Christmas.
âAlly, come on!â she pleaded with her best friend. Lydia and Allison had been close since they were young. They found themselves lucky enough to attend the same college, and were now rooming together. âItâll be so much fun! And you know that if you support this with me, everyone will join in.â Lydia hopped onto the bed and gave Allison her widest puppy dog eyes.
The brunette grimaced. âI donât know, Lyds. A secret santa for the floor? Does everyone on here even celebrate Christmas?â She closed the book in her lap and set it to the side. âWonât we make some people feel bad?â
Lydia shook her head. âIt doesnât have to be a secret santa! It can just be a⌠a gift exchange, thingy.â She shrugged. âPlease?â
They stared at each other for a few seconds, with Lydiaâs eyes getting bigger and her lips getting poutier. She knew one of them would have to give in, and it didnât take long for Allison to concede. âFine! Whatâs the plan?â

wonât be the same dear, if youâre not here with me
Christmas movies at Scottâs have somehow become a tradition over the past few years.
Stiles doesnât remember how exactly it started, but itâs definitely become a thing, because itâs all his friends have been talking about for days. Not that he minds in the slightestâ he would so rather sit on Scottâs couch and watch Christmas movies while drinking cocoa and eating pizza with his friends than have to go to Dannyâs raging holiday party and be forced to interact with all the people in his grade.
Here is my @stydiasecretsanta gift for @maliasass!! Kat, I had so much fun writing thisâ I hope you enjoy it, and have a very happy holiday!! You can read it here on AO3 đ

STYDIA SECRET SANTA 2018
Please read this! Things have changed!
Iâm back friends. Whatâs up. Iâm a little stressed about this thing being lame this year because Teen Wolf is dead and I havenât been around the stydia fandom much lately (sorry fam, i love you i just havenât been around any fandom much lately) BUT I HAVE FAITHÂ
So, welcome to the FIFTH annual Stydia Secret Santa ( F I F T H)
You can submit your applications via THIS FORM.
If you participated in this last year, welcome back, I hope youâre excited! If you didnât, all of the information can be found on this blog, but this is basically just a giant fandom work exchange with the excuse of Christmas. Â
I will likely be messaging former participants directly so donât freak if you get a message. But also just everyone spread the word fam.
Whatâs changed:Â So. Those of you returning probably know that Stydia Secret Santa is pretty much my biggest stresser during the holiday season. Like finals ainât got nothing on this. People ghost or donât send in gifts or whatever. I canât right now. So this year Iâm having YâALL post your gifts. On your blogs. This might be a huge failure but like you live and you learn, right? So this year instead of sending them to me, yâall are gonna queue your gifts up on your blog for December 25th. If you donât know how to schedule a post hit me up and Iâll help you.Â
What does this mean? This means that the responsibility is now on YOU. If youâre gonna back out or not be able to make a gift you have to have to have to tell me asap otherwise your person might not get a gift at all. I donât think you want that. I will not be mad if you tell me with ample time! Thereâs a spot on the application where Iâll ask if you can make back up gifts - Iâll ask people to make those before I know that i need them. If I end up not needing them you know have quality content for your blog. (This whole thing also means that now youâre getting the amazing reblogs on your work, not me.) I will reblog all of the gifts on here, please tag both me and the reciepient in your gift!
âMy @stydiasecretsanta gift for @fuckyeahstydia! Youâre a really cool chick, Blair!â
Or like however as long as theyâre both tagged.
So hereâs what you can do now:Â Â FOLLOW THIS BLOG which will be the central location for all information, FILL OUT THE APPLICATION which is how you become a part of this, TRACK STYDIASECRETSANTA if you want to stay updated, REBLOG THIS POST so that we can make this even bigger than last year, and CHECK OUT 2014 GIFTS and 2015 GIFTS and 2016 GIFTSÂ and 2017 GIFTSÂ because our fandom is hella talented.
