𖤐 during a hunt, you put yourself in danger to save someone about to be attacked and after you somehow make it out alive, dean rants to you about how stupid your actions were until he says too much. 𖤐

protective¡older!dean x hunter!reader(fem)

the car ride home after the hunt was almost unbearably tense. you knew dean was mad at you for putting yourself at risk like that but that’s what hunters do. he does it in almost every hunt- so why is he getting mad when you do it?

the second you step foot in the bunker, dean immediately starts ranting to you. “you could’ve died! you would’ve died had i not found you last second! were you really willing to throw your whole life away for a stranger?”

you almost laugh when he says that. “oh because you’ve never done that right? you never throw yourself in the way so you could save someone right?” dean turned to face you for the first time since you got home.

“that’s not fair-“ you cut dean off before he can finish his sentence. “no dean. what ‘isn’t fair’ is how if i do anything you’re so quick to criticise or turn it into a rant. the fact that i can’t do anything because you tell me it’s ’too dangerous for me’ is unfair.”

he falls quiet, his hand coming to his face to pinch his temple. when he finally speaks his voice is low, barely a whisper. “look, it’s different for you okay kid? i can’t- i won’t stand by and watch you put yourself in danger”

you chuckle humourlessly, “that’s what we do. you and i are the first people to know that being a hunter is dangerous. i mean it’s practically in the job description!”

“so you think that gives you a good enough reason to put your life on the line? just because me and sam have came back doesn’t mean everyone will.” deans tone was hard as he spoke. you chuckle again, almost bitterly, “right. must’ve forgotten you and sam are the universes favourites.”

dean scoffs at your words, “oh come on. don’t play that card. now that isn’t fair.” your sigh echos around the bunker “i’m just tired of you acting like i’m a little kid made of glass who’s gonna crack on every hunt we go on. why do you care so much about this? it was a stupid ‘mistake’ if that’s what you think that saved an innocent woman’s life! and i’m still here!”

“yeah but you were close to being gone, kid.” deans voice was laced with something you’d never heard from him, “ you don’t understand how dangerous this job is, i’ve been doing it a lot longer than you have. if you hadn’t made it our of there alive, which you very really didn’t, y’know where you’d be right now? in hell sweetheart. because that’s where all hunters go.”

“but i’m not there, i’m here so why can’t you just drop this whole thing? we both know you ranting to me about this is pointless anyways.” your voice rang through deans head. “i can’t ’just drop it’ okay? you don’t get it do you?” he sits down at the table in the centre of the bunker.

you flash him a confused look as to tell him to elaborate. “listen kid, i care about you. a lot more than i should. and that scares me which makes the thought of loosing or even the thought of you getting hurt scare me a hell of a lot.” his eyes meet yours, looking down at him. “as if it wasn’t goddamn obvious” he continues after seeing your shocked expression.

“and you chose not to tell me? why?” you sit next to him, now just a few feet away from him. dean almost laughs at that. “you think it would be that easy? i’m old enough to be your dad. i shouldn’t have these feelings towards you, yet i continue to, no matter how much i try to push them away.”

your gaze and voice soften as you reach forward to place your hand on his. “well you’re not loosing me anytime soon so you can stop worrying so much.” his face crinkles into a smile.

“you promise?” you chuckle “promise. and about the whole age gap, you think i care two shits about how old you are? i don’t know if you’ve noticed but you’re hot. like really hot. age don’t matter to me as long as the candies till sweet”

deans laugh runs through you “then we’ve got some talking to do kid.” he groans “see, now calling you kid feels weird!”

𖤐 summary — deans hands that were never taught to hold anything other than weapons until he met you.

dean had never been good with his emotions. with having to grow up far before he should’ve for sam he never learned how to deal with what he was feeling. dean was best with weapons, so that’s how he spent his time. that was until he met you.

you had always been gentle with dean due to his vulnerability with affection. for deans whole life his hands held guns and knifes, now his hand holds yours. the feeling was almost foreign to him; your thumb rubbing the back of his hand as a silent reminder of your presence.

deans hands hold onto yours waist as though he’s scared you’ll disappear the second he lets go. he had a deep scar from one of his hunts years ago that you would always trace with your fingertip yet he refuses to tell you how he got it. you don’t push for the answer. you never do.

late at night his hands trace your stomach, his palms carving out your figure with all the love in the world. deans warm fingertips drag along your spine as you sleep mainly to ease himself into falling asleep himself knowing you’re safe next to him. dean had lost everyone at least once. he wasn’t going to risk it with you.

you would pretend not to notice when deans hands lingered on your lower back when leading you through a crowd but the heat of his touch would burn through your skin. he doesn’t say ‘i love you.’ through words rather through touch so whenever there’s a chance, deans hands are on you.

whether its his hand in yours or a subtle drag of his fingers against your legs, he doesn’t care he just needs the contact. because he knows his hands that never learned to hold, without yours would’ve turned cold.

a/n- idk guys i saw this as a writing prompt on tiktok and thought it was PERFECT for dean but i fear i lowk failed at this but its fine cuz it was written at 3am and i cba to redo it so 😜
