Ahh thank you so so much! That's such a big compliment! I really like pushing hard with the emotionality because it's like..... You'll eventually forget how a sunrise looked, but you'll never forget how it made you feel. That's the most important part, I think.

I don't think I can pick just one, but other than Ford, my favourite characters are McGucket and Pacifica.
McGucket is sweetheart and I can relate a lot to his storyline of desperately trying to forget. Ironically, I also have a terrible memory that was made worse from abusing things I shouldn't have, so. I get him. I like that he's just himself all the time and he doesn't really care much for putting on airs and graces. I just find him to be a charming little fella and I'd like to drink moonshine and pig race with him. He'd be a riot.
Pacifica has always had a special place in my heart. My parents were evil too, and I appreciate that she becomes her own person in spite of them. She remains flawed, but Mabel sees her for what she could be and I like that. She's a softie deep down, regardless of how much of a front she puts up.
Regarding MtB, the only thing from the show that really inspired it was the lack of character expansion for Ford. Obviously, GF isn't really about him and he comes in late so it makes perfect sense, but I just wanted to try my hand at adding some colour to that.
The first fic was inspired by one of the tracks from Pirates of the Caribbean. The second was inspired by a minor part of Base12's Ford fic. The third is primarily a character study with some inspiration pulled from playlists that I've daydreamed to.
Songs play a pretty major part throughout FS because of that (mostly in terms of chapter titles) and although it won't be used because it doesn't fit the era-scheme, I found one earlier this year that quite literally describes the entirety of the series. I had no idea it existed but it's almost verse for verse the vibe of the story, which is really mad! It's also a banger so that helps!
Ooh favourite episode is probably Into the Bunker. I love The Thing so seeing it referenced was super fun. It's that, or it's Roadside Attraction because I fuck with Darlene.
Ships-wise, I love Mabifica and Fiddauthor! They're both just really cute and I get all my favs together so. Win win! I was also part of the original fandom back when GF first came out and back then I LOVED Stanchez so fucking much. Still do. Rick and Stan are great together.

MtB such a fire series that my friends from class (who have no interest in gravity falls or fanfics) are following along with the plot and getting invested into the romance with my shitty retellings each science class.. We've even deemed one of us in the group as the 'reader' and made pretty poorly drawn fanart, your stories are becoming legends!

When I think about your Ford in the MTB series, I can't help but think of attachment styles.
Personally, I think exploring your own attachment style can be a helpful tool for self-reflection, personal growth, etc. buuuuut I ALSO think it can be inherently restrictive and an all-too-easy way to boil down all your life experiences and behaviors into one box. Which is just not how humans actually work, lol.
But I feel like it's such a fun tool for fictional characters and using it to explore their motivations and/or patterns!! So, I wanted to ask:
Do you think your Ford's behavior towards Reader falls into any of the classic attachment styles??
I just love the character depth and complexity you've brought to the table with MTB. And idk if I'm the only one, but when I fall in love with flawed characters, I find myself DESPERATELY wanting to understand and dissect them, if only for the pure purpose of screaming: THEY'RE COMPLEX AND TRAUMATIZED, LEAVE THEM BEEEEE lol

FS is really just a big character examination of him atp, I can't even pretend otherwise haha! I just wanted to get into the weeds on what makes him tick and how that would come into play with other people. I really love difficult, flawed characters, it's fun to figure them out.
I agree, they can be useful but they've been oversimplified by pop-psych and people tend to think someone only fits into a single classification, whereas the truth is that it's more typical to fit into multiple.
For MtB!Ford, I'd say he's more Disorganised with fearful Avoidant tendencies.
Disorganised because he desires closeness, but he finds it incredibly difficult to trust anyone and gain that closeness. His history has proven to him that placing that trust typically backfires in a spectacular way, so he's resistant to lowering his guard enough to try.
Ford has a hard time reconciling/controlling his emotions and that prevents him from really understanding them. He doesn't like to examine those feelings because they're often uncomfortable or leave room for error, and he just doesn't want to engage with that. With things like romantic love, it's also quite new to him in MtB which means that he doesn't even recognise that's what he's experiencing at times and it causes him a lot of stress/confusion. He'd rather refuse to look at that side than he would try and figure out what it means. He's scared of it.
I also write him with BPD elements, so he's quite scared of being abandoned and his past dictates that he will inevitably be left and that frightens him a great deal. He doesn't want to risk that, and that stops him from getting too close in anticipation.
His self-esteem is catastrophically low as well and so he doesn't think anyone would want him anyway. He's carrying too much baggage, he's hurt too many people, he 'knows' no one likes him. It all plays off against his desire for closeness and punishes him for it.
The Avoidance element is present alongside all of that.
Ford lives for his work. He enjoys his space. He doesn't want anything to come between that and I think there's some fear there that he may hurt another person with that independence.
He's not interested in someone being clingy or suffocating, and standing in the way of his work would qualify as that to him. Ford doesn't want to spend hours on the couch with someone or go on long dates. To anyone else, that's quality time where you bond and grow closer emotionally and physically. To him, that's time that could be better spent on science. He'll bond through involving someone with his work as opposed to a more socially acceptable route.
I think that my Ford is a horrible communicator of his feelings, too. Because he doesn't understand/process them, he has no idea of how to explain them to others. In turn, he deals with his emotions alone (code for: spirals and represses them) and doesn't like to share that side of him. That comes off as being a bit of a brick wall to others. He doesn't want to tell someone why he's acting a certain way and he'll get upset if that's asked of him. He's extremely immature in that sense.
Ford likes a sulk and a brood. He's a glutton for wallowing. I think it makes him feel noble, personally. He prefers stoicism in the face of others and then wonders why he loses his shit so frequently, and why that spills out to hurt friends/family. He lacks a lot of introspective ability and he's very blind to his ways. Those that are more familiar with him (Stan, the kids, McGucket) have pretty much accepted that part of him, though it frustrates them, and they don't know how to get him to open up more than he has.
MtB!Ford has extreme CPTSD, too. It runs very deep and holds him tight. He doesn't know who he is without what has happened to him, and that makes him very hard to parse outside of that trauma. Because the others are attached to some of that trauma (Bill), they understand the context and can't really examine him without it informing the result. Reader knows him outside of that context and that's why they see him a little differently than everyone else. Ford knows that, and that then informs how much information he'll give them because he doesn't want to taint that purity.
He's a complex little ball of suffering that eats its own tail, basically. Everything is hinged on something else and it's always cancelling out or provoking another part. Ford doesn't have a clue what he's doing, but he won't let anyone help him.
It's always a self-fulfilling prophecy: "I'm bad and I can only do bad" which causes him to clam up and then do that bad by not talking to anyone about what he's really experiencing.
Very normal and healthy of him, I'm sure you'd agree :)
